i have been having an issue where the sounds i use just sound like a high-pitched ringing, i checked out this video to see if i was missing something, and nope, i do everything basically exactly the same way you did. don't quite understand why!

If you hear a high buzzing sound you can't get rid of, try a good emulator for testing, like BGB or Sameboy! The internal GB Studio emulator (BinjGB) doesn't have a good sound emulation. However, as BinjGB is currently used for GB Studio Web Export, you can't get rip of the buzz for a "Play In Browser" build. On real hardware there are some issues as well... The buzzing will be the loudest on GBA. Followed by CGB, where it is barley noticeable. The original DMG has by far the best sample playback!

In case you need a quick guide... Here is what I would normally do to prepare WAV samples for GB Studio 3.1+ In the right order. Cut the sample as tight as possible. Lowpassfilter 5834hz 48db Resample track 8000 hz Highpassfilter 440hz 48db Amplify to peak 0db Export as 8 bit pcm Amplify to peak +6db Export as 8 bit pcm again compare samples within a rom to a song to see if +6db is too loud or too low. You might need to amplify even further, depending on the type of sound.

no matter what I do, I cannot get rid of a loud high pitched buzz that is present in every sound effect. Even total silence has the same nasty buzz in it. I exported as the same file type with the same project rate using the same effects and every sound is still always behind a horrendous incredibly loud buzzing.
@yogi_tronimal2 жыл бұрын
There is a huge problem with buzzing sound when it comes to GBA. GBC is ok and DMG is best. I bet you tried this in the internal emulator, as this is not very accurate. Try to run your test in BGB or Sameboy emulator, to get a better idea of how it will sound on actual hardware.

Does a WAV sound effect use one of the music channels? If so, which one? I am just trying to anticipate the effect a WAV sound effect might have on a music track that is already playing.

Did you just copy the steps, or did you re-adjust the gain as I explained in the video. I just made an example. Also, the order of the steps is very important. Lowpassfilter 5834hz 48db Resample track 8000 hz Highpassfilter 440hz 48db Amplify to peak 0db Export as 8 bit pcm Amplify to peak +6db Export as 8 bit pcm again compare samples within a rom to a song to see if +6db is too loud or too low!

PSA Audacity was once a great audio editor. Unfortunately some company bought the rights to it and now distributes it with spyware included. Choose something else. I don't have any suggestions for you, however. I'm looking forward to Tenacity, which is loosely based on old versions of Audacity, but it's incomplete and currently only available as source code.
@yogi_tronimal2 жыл бұрын
I'm on Audacity 2.4.2 So it's not problematic at all.

Besides also the new Audacity is not really spyware imo.

Amplifying a sound louder than 0dB won't never be a good idea, it will always clip. Also, using Audacity is the worst advice here. If you can afford, is way better using Adobe Audition. If not, anything is better than Audacity. If you have a Mac, Garage band or Logic is good. You can compress the audio to get a bit more volume.
@yogi_tronimal6 ай бұрын
If you pay attention to how the Game Boy process samples, you'd recoginze it is a very good idea to amplifiy a lot. (With or without limiter) You don't need any paid software for that process, absolutely not. Audacity works fine for years and years.
@MarcPi6 ай бұрын
@@yogi_tronimal well, I have more than 2 decades of experience as sound engineer and work with a lot of audio software and I reaffirm that Audacity is the worst piece of shit I ever had to use. For the GB sampling, I have no experience, so not arguing here. But still hardly doubt that ampliffing the way you do it is the optim way.
@yogi_tronimal6 ай бұрын
@@MarcPi There is really no need for any paid software here. And get a subsciption model software to prepare Game Boy samples is just absurd. Especially if free software (Audacity) can do absolutely all you need.
