I have heard this before in recordings and had wondered if it was a highly processed electric guitar tapping harmonics. Thanks for clearing up this sound. Really amazing sounds!

2:56 everyone needs to have a patch like that. Mine's on the Korg Wavestate, of all things. It's its own synth, not really a Wavestation substitute. I used the patch on a track called Wavestate Grunge Marimbas, if anyone wants to hear it. Everyone needs SOME version of it!
@PaulBoos2 жыл бұрын
Another way to get that beautiful distorted lead sound is to run the synth through a flanger that has an LFO built into it. I use the Dreadbox Komorebi. It worked beautifully with a Rare Waves Hydronium to make a nice gentle screaming lead. I liked playing with changing the amount of mix between static and LFO, the rate of the LFO and the delay tie of the static setting on it. You could automate some of these with Eurorack control voltages... Then you could pass it into the reverb of your choice for the ever going echoes.... What is cool is how many different approaches for getting similar sounds there are. I hadn't heard of this effect before so nice to know it exists and makes me think of others ways to process a basic lead pad to get more motion in a similar way...

I like the classical use of the Voder more although I do admire people finding new applications. The arpeggio in your track is the same as in my tracks Frailty and Flame of Hope. Guitar arpeggios work equally well with synth sounds.

Exactly. The "intended" use of the Voder is of no interest to me, but as a distortion unit I like it occasionally.

So it seems like essentially a formant filter, which was probably pretty exotic back in the day, but fairly easy to find in plugins nowadays. And what does the mod wheel control, LFO rate? Intensity? What's weird for me is the idea of "loading an effect" into memory. Samples yes, but effects? Never ran across that. Then again, I never owned anything Ensoniq. 🙂
@EspenKraft2 жыл бұрын
I can promise you that nothing done in the DAW will sound like this. ;-) Not that you can't get nice formant filters in the box. The mod wheel can do whatever you want really. I've set it up here to control a bit of intensity. These Waveboy effects aren't adjustments of already effects in the EPS, these are almost like ROM effect chips in a software form. You can't adjust the effects already in the EPS to get these. One of the reasons I ike to have the EPS around is the bundle of Waveboy effects I have just because it gives me the opportunity to sometimes wield the magic Ensoniq wand and do something you can't get anywhere else. ;-)
@kaitlyn__L Жыл бұрын
That’s not too surprising since the Voder this is named after was essentially (to oversimplify) a large electromechanical formant generator, which could be controlled to produce speech if you string the sounds together well enough. (Technology from that eventually went into the very first Vocoder too! The ones Bell Labs made to test phone call compression techniques.)

@@6581punk Yeh.. I worked in Music shops in the hip tech section for decades.. You know how weird to see an Ensoniq Paris System go from Black to the Navy Blue with an EMU Sticker on it? It was al because of the Soundscape ISA Bus card, not requiring an IQ address due to its innovative software / Hardware design approach... And also had the DP ESP onboard! And from memory, One of the first to bring out a PCI Card.... Thats all Creative wanted... the IP.. Thats how the EMU-x really came about... What ever my rant may seem... All Vale Ensoniq and EMU.. Still got also a Procusion, E4k.. So I understand your pain... However, Amiga I loved, Atari Mega I choose/. Midex 8 , Cubase , Avalon.. etc.. Worked for me. But Brothers we are. When you knew, every dollar counted, and you had to work things hard... and the only way was to know them all back to front, top to bottom... Its not like today, Its all just a Plug in Chase... Even the stuff thats free today would've saved me enough to buy more than one new car.... But I wouldn't have it any other way,..

@789G I will have 4 carts with it and the original box. Yes it was very expensive considering this was in exceptionally near mint condition. The original owner had just replaced the power supply and had it overhauled. He provided proof of the repair bill so that was added to the cost. WELL WORTH IT. Should be here in 2 weeks.
