In catchweight fights, if one has to drain, the other has to bloat himself. You should look at both fighters, not only at one. The catchweights leveled the playing field enough for these classic fights to have been made. Pacquiao is a small guy and he is going up their division to fight these big guys. Instead of the big guys going down on Pacquiao's division, they gave him catchweight. Fair enough? Pacquiao vs Cotto at 145 is a fair weight for both fighters. Considering Pacquiao wentup to fight him and Cotto weighed in at 146 in his last fight against Clottey. Pac move up 5 lbs and Cotto moved down just 1 lb. Keep in mind, Pac has never weighed 145 ever in his career. Cotto is a natural Welterweight and that he can re-hydrate up to 150-160 lbs at fight-night. Also, Cotto said he was at the best shape of his career when he faced Pac.

The reasons for catchweights were legitimate. While Pacquiao had 3-5 years to develop into his other weight classes, he jumped two of them in two fights, then proceeded to battle welterweight and light middleweight giants. Remember, Clottey, De La Hoya, and Margarito fought a fighter fresh out of featherweight and outweighed him by 15-17 lbs, you have to give credit where it's due.
