I'm still using my Pixel 4a as a daily driver and the phone's about to turn 4 years old. Pixel 4a's battery was always on the lower side, so I've always been using it in battery saver mode since the beginning (regardless of available charge), but this particular issue is even worse on top of the already low battery and not all devices are affected by that problem. That's what Google said in their release notes of the new update. So, their battery exchange, cash and Google credits program is only applicable for the "affected" devices. In my case, the battery is pretty much the same after I updated my 4a and I even verified on Google's 4a update page that my particular unit isn't under the 'affected' devices, hence not eligible for battery exchange and that stuff. But, yeah I guess it's time to change this phone, but I hate that this form factor will probably never be widely available again :/

I have a Pixel 4a. After the update the battery would no longer "Charge Rapidly". It would discharge say 20% within 30 minutes without doing much. I went in for the battery replacement and it is as good as new, almost. It was one particular batch of battery that was the problem.

So not so fun story. My Dad had a Pixel 4a and i had Pixel 6 that had battery related issues not too far apart from each other a few months ago. The Pixel 4a had issues in which the battery would plummet randomly going from 60% to dead in a few minutes. My old Pixel 6 died cause out of nowhere the battery cell started expanding rapidly over a period of days causing the screen to pop out. Keep in mind both phones were a few years old at that point neither had physical or water damage. That battery update would have been helpful last year 😅

Totally with David on the 2x argument. I barely watch a video at 1x anymore. Different content creators speak at different speeds. For some I can easily do 2.5x but for others who talk normally, it's usually around 1.5x - 1.7x.

If on desktop/laptop browser, you can use the console in Developer Tools to customize playback rate, typically "document.querySelector('video').playbackRate = 2.5" Even on sites that do not have playback controls, this line works depending on how the website is setup.

I have a pixel 4a, but it was not considered included in the update benefits which sucks. Haven't noticed much of a difference. I wanted to add that David sounded like he believed the options stacked, but it is EITHER a battery replacement, $100 credit, or $50 cash, if you even qualify. I am looking into a refurbished pixel 8 instead.

@davidimel ​could you please please call attention to and try to get someone at KZbin to finally fix watching 60fps videos at higher speeds on the KZbin app for smart tv's, streaming devices (like apple tv) and games consoles? All 60fps videos revert to 480fps if you select a speed of 1.25x or higher. It's been broken for 10 months now and is one of the most trending issues on KZbin's community page. 900 people have complained about it already but have fallen on deaf ears as it's apparently indeded behavior for reasons unknown. It used to work fine before so there is no real technical reason for this. It is such an eyesore to be limited to watching 480p on the big screen while they're letting you watch 4k videos at 4x on your phone now. It's maddeining. Much appreciated if you guys could help out with this! Thanks

I don't have time to watch this right now but I'm here for the title. I installed a plugin ages ago that lets me watch up to 16x speed so i've been gradually watching higher and higher as i got used to it. Now when I don't have much time and depending on how fast the person in the video talks I can raise to 6x speed and still get full enjoyment. It can have some hiccups if I'm not fully paying attention but aside from that for most other content I'm usually at 4-5x

The one issue I had with the Tech examples of the Luka trade was that you were doing full devices. The trade was likely made because of the win now potential of the AD fit. So, it would be like getting getting a 5D Mark IV (Mavs getting AD) and giving a R1 (Lakers getting Luka) when both teams have EF lenses. The Mavs will have the better fit right now but the Lakers will have the better thing to go with newer upgrades.

I've never been super into sports but have been trying to get into it now, and geeeeze it is maddening how impossibly convoluted and expensive it is just to get all the games for your favorite team, let alone all the games for a whole league. Like there can't be more than 10% of fans at most who can afford it, and a much smaller percentage of younger fans. I seriously suspect it's going to do enough damage to some sports leagues long-term in terms of gaining and retaining fans that they'd be better off eating the cost of buying out or breaking all their streaming and broadcast contracts and then either going with a single unified source or just giving access to everybody, no exclusives. Either way.

4x speed isn't always useable if the audio isn't clean and crisp, or if the people talk a bit mumbled, or if the audio was recorded at a lower bit rate/sample rate/bit depth. The higher speed basically just negates the seconds and minutes worth of audio that would would usually get edited and cut out if podcasts were edited and cut. And just generally allows me to get the info a little quicker. The second or two of pause when people are thinking about what they're saying, etc... I don't speed up music, I don't speed up TV shows, I don't speed up movies. There's so artistic reason to listen to people yapping at normal speed; I just want the info.

I have an extension that boosts playback speed and have been using it for some time. I watch at 3x routinely. The worst thing in the world is when a youtube commentator plays back a video in their own video at 1.5x which combines together for an overall speed at absurd speed. Then it's a bit much for me. More training needed. Slow increases do help a little.
