Getting the Retina ~218 PPI resolution for me is the determining factor for displays since I work with a lot of text. This limits me to 4K in a 24inch, 5K in a 27 inch size. Not many options for 5K 27in…Studio Display is a good option for those requirements.

Software developer here… Bought a Studio display and after using it for 10 minutes combined with another LG 27inch display, I bought a second one. Screen quality and build quality is awesome and next level. Can’t compare it to the regular comparable monitors but the Apple Studio display is very very good. Expensive yes but so are all other Apple products. Additionally, it works flawlessly and looks beautiful on my desk. Very happy camper here 👍

@@RazaSyed12345 can’t say that it isn’t a flex but also an expression of joy as these monitors are awesome to me. A side note is that if you want a Windows desktop to use the Apple Studio monitors (me for VR development only) you do need a special cable (DisplayPort) that is capable of doing it. Not every cable can, even though the specifications match (very annoying).

@TimothyBrake

@@smartlearning6390 Sure. After 1 year of using the 2 Apple Studio Display monitors (glossy), they are still amazing. I’m using these for professional software coding for 8-10 hours each day, connected to a macbook pro. These are the best monitors I’ve ever had without even anything coming close. Text is crystal clear and sharp. The build quality is next level and looks good on a desk. The sound is also of such quality that I don’t have additional speakers on my desk. The camera supposed to be a bit less but I don’t see any issues and it works as expected. The only downside was (but working now) trying to find a way to also hook these to my Windows desktop for VR coding. It only accepts thunderbolt cables but my desktop only has HDMI and DisplayPort. No cable worked except the cable mentioned in my previous post and I also don’t yet have audio using the Windows desktop but that could be me and possible that it can be done. If you have the money and it doesn’t hurt you financially, this is a no-brainer purchase. I just asked a colleague that also purchased a glossy one and he mentioned he’ll never go back to none-glossy. So they are very good monitors and you won’t be disappointed. Go to a store and check them out, play some music, use the camera and experience them first hand.

I’ve been looking for a monitor for a few years seem like and all have been high. Then when you read reviews of them some highly anticipated they have issues then you find out customer service is not good in dealing with issues. Then you have manufacturers that have bad panel lottery. Most of the ones I was looking at were around $1299 with those other issues. I paid extra but I feel that’s for Apple’s QC and customer service.

I had a normal 27” before the 5k iMac, and it was amazing. I never worried about the screen at all. Maybe because the computer was the focus? But since this is a display only I guess it gets a tougher focus on its features. At the end of the day all it is, is a bit too expensive. Everything else is fine for what it is, basically an iMac screen without an iMac, it’s just too close to iMac cash without being an iMac.

The LG ultra fine 5k is great, but compared side by side now that I have both, the LG has significantly more IPS glow. Also The LG just doesn't calibrate as well with the M Macs for some reason. And now that you can find the studio display on sale for 1350, it's a no brainer. Also just a note, the first studio display I purchased had a backlight bleed and the speakers didn't sound right. I exchanged and the second had zero light bleed and speakers sounded noticeably better. its weird.

I was hoping Apple would have done a base model 24" 4.5k screen (Same as new imac without computer) as the entry level monitor near the $1000 price point, and they could have marketed that as a possible second display for existing iMac users, or as a single or dual monitor setup for Mac Mini/Mac Studio etc. I think The 27" 5K panel needed to be mini led (though high refresh rates don't seem to be possible with current bandwidths so I'd be fine with 60hz) and could have landed in a higher price point like $2599-3000 ish (which is what 32" OLED monitors are going for), and that could have been marketed as a companion for MacBook Pros or for higher end creative studios using super powered Mac Studios(where 27" iMacs were so plentiful). Then you'd have the Pro XDR at the top to top the specs for both size/resolution/price. I think that would have been a nicer eco system with a lot of possibilities for personalization which would possibly bring in a varied customer base.

The trouble is it doesn't feel like Apple stuck the landing many of us were hoping for, but is still very much expected of Apple. To those braving the waters of being early adopters, thank you for being the test subjects for this experiment and putting your money down for this. Hopefully your feedback will help improve the 2.0 models that will likely come in the next two to three years. Monitors undergo many revisions within a release as panel manufacturing and backend processing change. Those complex model names are important to differentiate between minor changes in display specs. The alternative is to have “ghost” revisions where you may be getting a slightly worse panel without really knowing it. Maybe there is a middle ground somewhere with human readable names and version numbers,

It was so slim that even though it’s case is metal it looks flimsy. If it came in a 30 inch option maybe it would get sustained attention. Purchased it with the Mac Studio M1 Ultra, Monitor is way too small for the studio, height adjustment is very good, the standard one shouldn’t even be considered because is sitting way too low. I wish i ordered the Nano Texture its very reflective compare to the old iMac 27 but on all reviews people said quality is less and reading text annoys the eyes over time. Ports at the back of the monitor! Why don’t they make it work with the Mac Studio for example let us connect our hard drive to the monitor and act like its connected to the mac studio, it has an iphone 11 chip in it then why not make it work with the Mac Studio. I managed to crash M1 Ultra couple of times with just basic stuff, MacOS has bugs still that is not fixed over the last 10 years. Back Cable not coming off, in the studio we usually use a different cable that we can connect it to power conditioning with this we cannot do that and its a pain! Turning on the Mac Studio that little power button at the back is very very inconvenient, why not adding a feature where we can turn the Mac Studio with the keyboard? Is that exist? Opening MacBooks now it turn on by its self why not adding that feature to the Mac Studio? I wish the Monitor was bigger with Mini LED and higher refresh rate! In my opinion in the studio you need an updated pro XDR, studio display is not worth the price. But as there is no competitors this looks good and works well, speakers are not bad webcam is there when you need it! 👍🏼

The Studio Display highlights for me a missed market opportunity for Apple - the iPhone SE of Apple monitors: a well-built Apple monitor, with more modest monitor features, but with speakers and webcam, that is plug and play with an M1 MacMini or M1 MacBook Air. Such a monitor would be perfect for home offices and avoid the real headache of finding monitors and webcam that integrate with MacOS right out of the box.

If we were to work back from a price point of $1600 I wonder what could be achieved. If they took out the speakers and camera would that price permit height adjustment? Maybe not. I have mentioned elsewhere that I believe this to be one of those cynical products that gives us what Apple wants instead of what the customer actually needs. My first reaction was to imagine Steve Jobs being shown it without height adjustment and then being told about the significant increase for that basic facility. Would he have sent the designers back to the drawing board? I hope so. Apple have had a long time to source an improved panel and research what users of this display would actually need to do with it. The right display will eventually appear at a much higher price methinks.

Even as a normal I do not feel the Studio Monitor is overpriced for a 5K monitor with all of its options inside the Apple garden world. The LG Ultra HD 5K Ultra Slim USB-C Monitor Widescreen LED IPS LCD w/ Webcam - Black - 27MD5KA-B that I purchased because Apple does not have "Store delivery" as an option if you wish to purchase the Studio Display. The cost for the LG 27MD5KA-B model on Amazon is now from $1,319.95 to $1,560.00. So please get over the price. So far no issue what so ever with the latest LG 27MD5KA-B with my setup of MacBook Air M1 chip with 8‑core CPU, 7‑core GPU, and 16‑core Neural Engine, 16GB unified memory, 2TB SSD storage, CalDigit TS4 Thunderbolt 4 Dock, and a LG Ultra HD 5K Ultra Slim 27MD5KA-B Monitor on a black NB North Bayou VESA Monitor Arm Desk Mount. For items that I have on another part of my desk purchased Anker 7-Port USB 3.0 Data Hub with 36W Power Adapter and BC 1.2 Charging Port. This replaced this normals iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014). Thing is I was looking very hard at possibly purchasing a base line Mac Studio with 2TB SSD storage with a Studio Monitor. Love it when young people talk about the cost. Apple Mac Studio, Studio Monitor in configuration I was looking to purchase would've cost me $4,198.00 which is less than my original Macintosh purchased in 1984 at $2,500 when adjusted for inflation would be $6,764.87 on the introduction date of the Apple Studio lineup.

Rant: I don't understand why the only monitor people compare this studio display to has to be this one LG that just happens to use the same seven and a half year old panel. Compare it to some current Eizos or Dell Ultrasharp or Asus ProArt or whatnot... You know, something that actually makes sense IN A STUDIO in 2022! This Apple display doesn't self calibrate, doesn't do HDR, can't be used like a wacom tablet ... What studio is apple targeting with a monitor that doesn't do studio monitor things? Said it before, I'll say it again: This is an imac without the mac for the price of an imac. Naming: Studio display is a dumb name because it's a generic term. Remember the Cinema Display? Of course you do. Do you also remember the Cinema HD Display? And the LED Cinema Display? Now tell me which of those come in what sizes? .... See what I mean? ;-) But monitor naming can be super simple. Dell is actually doing a great job there. For example I still have a U2711 somewhere. It has not been in use for years now but I still remember the name because it follows a pattern. It's U for the ultrasharp model line, 27 for size in inches and 11 for the year the monitor hit the market. U 27 11. Simple.

For sure there are negatives, & I'm not going to defend the semi-captive power lead, or the overly short Thunderbolt cable, but for me the build quality, the resolution. & colour quality and absolutely the "it just works with Apple" in terms of scaling and power on are must haves. I think Apple missed an opportunity. They should have released this monitor to fit a Mac Mini not as studio… the “studio” should ay least have HDR and a high refresh rate. Basically the Max Studio is the desktop match for the MacBook pros so the Studio Display should be a match for the MacBook Pro’s screen and it isn’t. I still wish someone published a comparison between the Studio Display and the iMac 24” screens. I don’t think they’ll perform too far apart at all, at least not to justify the price difference.

Bottom line. The Studio Display doesn’t quite know what it’s supposed to be. As a partner to the Mac Studio (and to justify the price), it should have at a bare minimum a 120 hertz refresh rate, and probably mini-LED too. At the other end of the spectrum, it would be super-nice with the Mac Mini, but it’s way too expensive for that. And the Center Stage webcam is a miss on both - while you could make a case for it on a family iMac, the Mac Studio and MIni seem more likely to be used in office settings where users are less likely to walk around as they’re video conferencing. Image quality would seem more important here, but it seems subpar with the Center Stage setup. 😕 Maybe Apple will do better on the next versions. A 32” Studio Display with the above-mentioned improvements would pair nicely with the Mac Studio. Even at Apple prices.

i understood the logic but look how far you need to reach to justify buying this monitor, the only thing good about it in my opinion is the build quality and even that is a far fetched, i have my 2 monitors on an arm and they do a lot of weird noises if i move them but it's still a monitor, realisticly you're going to set it in one place and move it once a month. In the review you guys pluged it to an ipad and the resolution wasn't right for the monitor, and guess what you can't change it, so not even the "it just works" saying holds up.
