Two megastars teens appeared almost simultaneously in Japan at the time (late nineties): Hikaru Utada (“Hikki”), the queen of pop, and Shiina Ringo, the goddess of rock. Considered rivals, they actually get on well together, as they have very different registers (a duet song features on Shiina's latest album).

Wave, you do know that Utada Hikaru is a megastar in Japan, right? She broke multiple music records at young age. Also, she went through a lot personally. She was born in New York City and speaks fluent English. "Automatic" was the first song that I heard from her. This was in the 90's. Very nostalgic.
