WOW! From the title, I'm so intrigued. What an amazing advance this will be, and what a boon to immersive interest and production.

I'm glad you like it! The ability to add texture in various zones of the immersive channels will definitely elevate your mixing skills for Dolby Atmos 💪

Hey Alex, Is this Waves worth the stretch,, since I have a lot of EQ's for ATMOS already.

Smart of waves to do this. Cheers for the good news!

Not many people mention that Amos mixes can come across VERY well on stereo speakers, too. Placement can sometimes be even better than on headphones. Dolby discourages binaural mixes for stereo speakers, but I can't imagine why. They can sound great. I have been mixing and thought I accidentally left side speakers on, only to find out that it is all coming from the front speakers!

Great video, Alex. 🥳I've been looking for a good upmixer...
@DolbyAtmosMixingАй бұрын
Hey bud, this doesn't function as an upmixer. An upmixer, such as PENTEO or HALO UPMIX, can upmix a stereo channel to 7.1.2, but the Waves Immersive Wrapper only operates with the same number of channels as the current track. Let me know if that makes sense.
@robshrock-shirakbari1862Ай бұрын
@@DolbyAtmosMixing Sorry for the confusion... yes, I understand that. Was just commenting on Penteo, as I am coincidentally on the hunt for a good upmixer currently. 🤓

I can show you how to accomplish it for free, and better than Waves does it by actually including Objects! (courtesy of Lurssen Mastering)
@BigMTBrainАй бұрын
@@pascalpahl You're thinking of instrument sound sources as objects. This is for effects applied to surround channels, which aren't object based. But concerning objects specifically, Waves states: "For dynamics plugins that allow sidechaining, Immersive Wrapper lets you share internal sidechains across all the beds and objects, enabling you to glue your immersive mix with bus compression quickly and easily."
@pascalpahlАй бұрын
@@BigMTBrain correct! so the only advancement is the integration of a side-chain source within the plug-in itself. Pro Tools already includes track widths of 9.1.6, so you can buss process all surround channels together. This isn't a complete solution to Atmos Buss processing, but it's getting there! I'm definitely grateful and applauding the push towards making more immersive products. No hate coming from me at all, just to be clear!

Price-wise, this is in the ballpark with the Gravitas ($199) offering from Fiedler Audio (which I have), which only offers compression currently, with other dynamics "coming soon". I also have Fiedler's SpaceLab Intersteller surround reverb, which retails for $299. One must caution, however, that the Waves solution may very well be a "quick solution" compared to Fiedler's possible superior expert, more complete, professional solution of a suite of surround-specific plugins. We'll have to wait for more analyses and comparisons to come in. For me, as I'm deep in the Fiedler ecosystem, that is where I'll remain. But I also have a few Waves plugins, so I'll certainly download the Waves Immersive Wrapper demo to see how it might fit in my current configuration and plans. If quality enough, I might go with the Waves wrapper solution for immersive dynamics processing beyond just the current compression of Fiedler Gravitas as input to Fiedler's Dolby Atmos Composer surround management and mixing solution.

You messaged me regarding what Binaural audio was (this video), and this isn't any explanation as to what it is. What is it? I do not think many people can answer what it is without running to Wiki to find out some well-used timing differences which makes no sense to the critical thinker, as timing differences make no difference when the source is directly in the centre and moves in the vertical. So what is binaural audio? How does it work so that we can tell where something is coming from? I believe that your assumption of what binaural audio is completely different of the true reason of what it is. The demo here isn't binaural, but a "binaural" attempt to recreate it, but (again) what is it (function) that makes it do that? I am seriously interested with your reply, because I am anticipating your reply as incorrect, I really hope that you have a fundamental comprehension of what it is, though I am pretty convinced you don't really have an idea, else you would have informed me of what it was instead of sending this video to me, which doesn't say what it is at all. Edit, google states > sound engineers now use binaural algorithms and sound-editing software to create a similar effect < What is it that causes the effect? Heads up, this takes effort, and critical thinking, so it isn't an easy answer. Sorry.
