Maybe I'm missing something. I always hear people complaining about Waves' update plan being a "double/triple cost" Is it always nessesary to upgrade? I bought the Gold bundle years ago for cheap, and I have never had to upgrade it.

What's the difference between this and a multi band compressor?

Good question. A multiband compressor works in frequency bands, so f.e. one band may be from 3 kHz - 7 kHz. The compressor then acts on that full range of frequencies. Think of this more as a dynamic parametric equalizer. There's not a band as above, but a center frequency. Therefore, a tool like this is more surgical. You target a specific frequency.
