I just washed all of these in a playlist related to masking. You have helped me to solve a problem. I don’t know if you’re still looking at the comments or in anyone is still looking at these comments but, I’m trying to use it to solve a phasing problem with multiple mics on my one drum.

I'm definitely getting this. It's so confusing trying to set this up in Reaper, and get it to work properly. This plugin is very necessary, because it eliminates the confusion & makes it easy to dial in your exact area & amount of reduction on the problem track.

Dang bro. I was hoping to hear whether to use L/R or Mid/Side. I noticed you were on the L/R setting in the tutorial. But when I sidechained my kick and 808, I think it sounded better using the Mid/Side setting and Panning left for 100% Mid. Any suggestions?

Fair point! I fluctuate between both settings but M/S can definitely be better when dealing with low end sounds like kicks, basses, etc. When in doubt, try each and see what sounds best!

Why a use slow attack and fast release for sidechaining to something transient, like a kick? By the time the kick hits, the compression is barely happening being triggered, and most of it happens after the important part (transient) where the frequencies are clashing.... seems like you’d want as fast an attack as you could get away with. Curious what your thinking is on this. Thanks for the vid 🙏
@5piece
@5piece 2 жыл бұрын
Your logic is correct, sometimes you do indeed want a quick attack so the priority sound (in this case the kick) cuts through. The problem is it also negatively impacts what you’re applying it to (the bass), leading to a more audible ducking sound. I slow the attack to make this more transparent, still getting a reduction on the bass to make room for the kick but more subtly. End of the day you must play with it and see what sounds best to your ears, these are my preferences. I like my stuff still somewhat dynamic and not slammed down. Hope this helps.

only problem is that you still have to setup your pro q 3 everywhere to find the masking areas if you want to see, then load trackspacer and set that up.. maybe kick and bass is the simple example but once you have and 200 other channels it gets a little bit tedious. Another thing to consider is that with pro q 3 you dont have the option for attack and release so if you are producing something like drum and bass this will probably not help much, and just checking the trackspacer manual, what you basically have is a 32 band dynamic EQ that will automatically make the adjustments in a dynamic way, unlike pro q 3 where you would have to set those frequencies manually--- Also I forgot to mention that you have tools like gatekeeper and volumshaper that can get you a lot more clarity between bass and kick in a 4x4 128bpm setting but mostly because they are just volume envelop tools.. once you start to sidechain let's vocals and guitars, guitars to bass, guitars to piano, etc, etc.. I would go for trackspacer, it would automatically find the masking issues between instruments and make the correction automatically, all you need to set is the attack and release. Thank you for comparing both and all of the best!!

I 100% agree with everything you’ve pointed out here. Trackspacer is great for “quick and dirty” corrections or more complicated/large sessions, while Pro Q is solid for manual adjustments. I ultimately use both for different situations. Neither are perfect but both are useful!!!! Thank you for watching and commenting 🙏🏼

I’m new to Pro Tools. When I use this plugin, I sidechain it to Vocal L. Does it only affect the left channel? Would I have to load another one for Vocal R since they’re mono? Sorry if that’s a dumb question !!
@5piece
@5piece 2 жыл бұрын
Usually the key input (the sound that triggers the reduction) is mono, Aka one channel. So you’d be fine to use Vocal L as the sidechain key input since there can only be one option.

What if I have a Vox bus (summing stack) Adlib bus and a dubs bus. Track spacer wont let you side chain to all the busses only 1 bus right? Would I just keep adding the track spacer 2 more times for the other busses?
@5piece
@5piece 2 жыл бұрын
Correct - you’d need to use multiple instances each with their own unique sidechain input. I do this all the time as well

@5piece
@5piece 3 жыл бұрын
@@freemixmaster262 yeah the fabfilter is definitely a lot more flexible since it can do so many things. I rely on it much more than the trackspacer BUT the trackspacer does get some work here and there, especially if I’m trying to create separation quickly. Thanks for watching! 🙌🏼

Can you make a video of the best reverb
@5piece
@5piece 2 жыл бұрын
"Best" is subjective - there is no best, its whatever works best for you on a given song. I use different reverbs all the time. I personally like the UAD EMT 140, Waves Rverb, and Valhalla Vintage Verb among others. Here's a great overview of how i use reverbs in my mixes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kJDQmYKtl9eefMU

Trackerspacer or nectar 3 (unmasking vocal)?
@5piece
@5piece 2 жыл бұрын
I actually need to explore Nectar 3 more - perhaps I will in an upcoming video. I can give you a more solid answer then 😁 I would imagine Nectar is more malleable than Trackspacer though.
@zabavno2112

@@5piece thx in my opinion, nectar 3 old version takes away too much frequency and the image of the beat loses a lot, trackerspacer kills my kick, so I like to find places with eq and lower a couple of decibels so that the vocals sit down, you lose a little and you gain more
