Some feedback on Wavestorms: First this board is about 8 feet long and high floatation. Still if you are over say 175 pounds you will probably want to use a 9 to 10 foot soft top to learn on. I am 165 lbs and it took me weeks of learning and strengthening before i consistently caught waves. Now though I am looking for something shorter. As said make sure you wax the board or even wax the protective plastic covering (before it wears out and you tear it off). Make sure to check the plastic screws that hold the 3 fins in place before you go surfing. If the leash tangles up on you, paddle to a safe spot in the ocean and take it off to untwist it. The board will not catch waves as easily as a similar shaped fiberglass or epoxy board. For the price it is the best board you can buy though. The board will handle speed quite well. I find it turns moderately well for a longboard, better on your toeside than heelside. The board is soft so any times you accidentally hit your body on it, it wont hurt!

Do not get a wave storm invest and get a nice soft top that 150$ more you pay is worth it but I must say if you are on a buget and do not care it is an ok beginner board
@chamberlainpaintings4 жыл бұрын
@@sk8_surf697 I don't think you can get the wave storm for $99 at Costco anymore. They've got a different brand which looks good. Having said that, I've been using my Wavestorm for over a year and I still LOVE it. I've surfed this thing hard, at least four times a week, for 13 months and it's still going strong. If you can't have fun on this board, It's you, not the board. 😂

@@chamberlainpaintings I am saying if you want to customize and make your board your own and you have that extra 90 to 150 you can get a board that is a single fin or a board that is more your style and size do not get me wrong the wave storm is grate I am saying if you have that extra money in my opinion it is worth it aka I am saying a upgraded board

Good vid. Addressing common problems. I would add a few; while sitting and waiting, form the habit of reaching back to manage leash position, (not in fins). Get a changing poncho, better than towel dance at our age. Keep using foamy while learning at crowded places, safer for all. Stay safe, have fun!

As a former Ace Hardware employee, I can tell you $40 is Nothing compared to the $70-$200 some people used to pay for their chip keys. Also, don't put a magnetic key box on the front bumper, do it on the back bumper...

Great video. Can’t believe you’ve been in California for so long before trying surfing, but better late than never. As a native Floridian, I can tell you the shark attack chances are much greater in Florida - which leads the world in the most attacks, although most are not fatal. Still doesn’t keep surfers out, even those that I know have been bitten and still bear the scars. It’s great exercise.
@chamberlainpaintings5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I heard New Smyrna Beach has the highest number of shark attacks in the world. There have actually been very few fatal attacks in California. The last one was 7 years ago.
@tanyamarsh43925 жыл бұрын
You’re exactly right. Most guys I grew up with surfed (and still do) New Smyrna. The water turbulence in Florida cuts visibility...for surfers and sharks. Most attacks are quick bites of either mistakes...paddling hands look like bait fish, or bites from falls - onto a shark. A friend of mine was unlucky enough to fall onto a shark that left a circular row of scars across his chest. He got HUNDREDS of stitches. Still surfs...👍

Btw, that was *not* a ramble towards the wrap up, my friend. That was INSPIRING! I'm going on 49 in September, feeling great, and definitely attribute a lot of how I feel to being more methodical; noting what went well, then of course what not so well and researching what might be best thing to work on next and trying to focus on that. Sometimes I don't overcome an obstacle in the time frame I was hoping so I'll switch it up and come back to that later if it makes sense. Anyway, excellent video, love the feeling, vibe, great tips and content!

I always keep my car key on me, though my key is not an electronic key. I either keep it in my swimsuit or I have attached it to my surfboard in a pinch. I definitely never keep the key on the car cause you never know who is watching where you are hiding it. I should point out that anything you take out into the water, you should be okay with losing. I have lost watches, keys, sunglasses (cause I forgot I was wearing them!), hats, cameras. It is just part of the ocean tax to Poseidon.

You were actually more likely to get hit in the head by coconut and die rather than die from a shark also my best form of mounting advice for your GoPro is put a sticky mount on the front of the board and keep a waterproof case at all times on the mount and buy another waterproof case and a mouth mount that way you have two options always
