Freshly build in survival and it has been running great. Just one thing (I believe someone else had pointed it out already), is that the villagers will eventually die. So far I have fixed it by closing the trapdoors next to the composters and placing two more trapdoors on top. This should make it impossible for any drowned, even babys, to damage the villagers. I feel like you should have split the episode, it was too much at once. Maybe do seperate server tours where you could talk about the farm in some more detail? really clean concept! wonder if theres a way you could have zombies in climbable blocks as they convert, reducing entity collision lag + allowing for more output
@cubicmetre3 жыл бұрын
I actually forgot to show this in the video, I had experimented with this idea. However the only configuration that works requires you to place scaffolding at the bottom, then cobwebs in the middle and water flowing over the top of the cobwebs. You would need to update suppress the cobwebs into place. This might have been worthwhile if you also get a significant boost in efficiency, however this is not the case in practice without collisions, the mobs will tend to form compact lines which stream through the conversion chamber. This results in the reinforcement spawns piling up into a single lane of the system resulting in spawns overlapping and less spawns in total. Without collisions it does become a lot more lag efficient, however the rates drop significantly.

I know Ilmango used minecarts to collect zombie piglins in a gold farm he made... In his farm it allowed more zombie piglins to spawn in the meantime, but in this case it miiiight be useful for moving the mobs along faster, and otherwise controlling their movement. Boats are of course also an option. Using minecarts you can I suppose also offload them into a specific anti-collision spot, probably a 1 by 1 where they drown and get damaged or however exactly one chooses to design it. The removal of collisions for ALL the zombies should improve the performance aspect at least a little bit, then they might get minecarted again or maybe they're already at the killing spot, again, depends on the exact design and methodology (ie, do you want to use looting), maybe you can even keep them in minecarts and put them somewhere for looting to be used on them, although I don't think you can remove minecart collisions (or can you...). It miiiight also be worthwhile or necessary to consider alternative methods for throttling the farm, like somehow blocking some nber of spawning spaces depending on how much lag there is, perhaps by pushing up the floor or... well really anything as long as it works. I'm just throwing some ideas out there for how you might go about getting even better rates, since I feel like it's plausible to push it even further, especially by eliminating zombie/drowned collisions as much as possible and by making it looting friendly like Ilmango's recent-ish zombie piglin farm.

Reason beeing that zombies can spawn on top of the spawner amd reduce theefficiency of the farm. If you just block those spaces, you will loose potential spawning soaces, but with the water, not onlly you increase the rates by 1.1%, but you can flush zombies that fall from the other spawners above. Hello, Cube! Thanks for your well thought-genius farm designs! It helped not only me but a lot of people for sure. One thing though, do you have a quick fix for villagers turning to zombies. At some point after a couple of hours running the farm, the zombies/drowned are able to reach the villagers, thus turning them to zombies -- and curing them is impossible since they are side by side. Not sure if it's true but this farm can act as a mob switch for your servers too... :D Btw, on behalf of the Terrashift SMP family, we are very thankful!
@cubicmetre3 жыл бұрын
We had this issue on wavetech also, it occurs because when the reaction ramps up to a certain point the collisions between entities is so extreme that drowned can get launched into range of attacking the villagers, I was hoping the single spawner variant would not encounter this issue however the fix is very simple. Start by placing down some additional trapdoors to separate the zombie villagers so as they are cured they do not kill eachother. Then to ensure that is does not happen again simply put a bar of chains just ablove the trapdoors infront of the composters, this will prevent drowned from getting into attack range of the villagers.

@@cubicmetre Thank you very much for your reply! After about 2 million drowned kills I have some tips for you: Name your villagers, so when they get converted to zombies they don't despawn when you go get golden apples and weakness potion. I learned that the hard way. Also, put lightning rods near the villagers if you have only trap doors with glass above them or they can be converted to witches with lightning even when named. I learned that the hard way. In 2 million kills they turned to zombies twice and to witches once. Also, when you are curing them, drop down to water platform, spray them with weakness, give them apples and then wait there otherwise they will convert each other before the conversion takes place for all of them. You can rest against closed trap doors so you don't have to fight the water current. EDIT: Also, make sure wandering trader can't spawn on/near the killing platform and move you or the bot away from the minecart.

I think its a fine way of getting copper. Honestly. Its a natural resource like diamonds, gold, iron etc. It would never be possible to automate diamond production- So i think its kinda okay to have farms you can make ingame that just take longer to get loot from. - just the fact that its renewable is good, in my opinion. Its fair that not every farm can be pushed to lets say. +100k items per hour. I think its a quite uniqe way of getting copper, and i think thats way better. So the game aint that repetitive. But thats just my opinion of course. Nice video anyways!!!
@cubicmetre3 жыл бұрын
I think the problem here isn't the rates exactly, but how much lag you need to cause to get those rates. Like it wouldn't be an issue to have a slow farm that can run in the background for a few days to get large amounts of a certain resource, the issue here is that the farm is very slow AND causes a lot of lag, meaning if you run it then the server grinds to a halt.

Hey Cubic, ever since the Low Tech Crafting mod came out I've been hoping to see someone make a contraption that lets the user enter any of the game's items to craft (enter the item type using binary?) and the amount of stacks to craft. The contraption shouldn't need to be massive as it could just use one/a few crafting tables to craft every item in the game. An expansion to the contraption could add the ability to queue different item types at once so you can work on something else while it's slowly churning away, or maybe an extension that tells the contraption that you always want to keep X number of Y item types in stock. If you've ever played with Applied Energistics/Refined Storage, the idea is that their autocrafting functionality could be replicated using crafting tables. Is this a project that interests you?

@@sanderbos4243 I say we can go crazy and have a stack of crafting jobs even! 1. user writes the items he wants on paper and puts them on the stack 2. item is unpacked into its prerequesites by some clever item catalogue 3. items are requested from a storage. if items aren't there in sufficient quantities, add the remaining number on the stack as more crafting requests! 4. Once all the needed items are there start crafting. Put the result back in the resource chest in case that was an intermediate item. 5. work through the entire stack this way, until finally the user's crafting job is complete. I would not actually recommend using a single crafting module tho, that could take AGES for a multi-level recipe. Better to have a few identical modules working in parallel. Like how you definitely want more than one crafting core in AE

Awesome work, this is a really elegant iteration over the Gnembon design. Some testing in my own worlds has left me with a question: How much of an impact does each subsequent spawner have? Or is the number of "wings" in the reactor the main force behind the copper/hour rates? To go into it a little further: I have a spot on my server where there are 3 zombie spawners within range of a single player, but I'm not really noticing appreciably higher rates than in your world download. I'm starting to think that each extra zombie spawner only increases the rates by ~200 or so, but if I build the 'other' two wings of the reactor I'll ~double the rates because of all of the extra reinforcements. Before I chase too far down this hole I figured that I'd reach out and see if you noticed anything like this in your testing. Anyway, thanks for the awesome content. It's a joy watching you work :)

Since the farm self-throttles, I'd imagine you could actually get away with just one of them. You only need the spawner to start the farm up, and you could go out of range of the spawner once the farm is churning along. The main advantage to having a bunch of spawners is that the farm will ramp up a lot quicker.

So I downloaded the farm, and its so beautiful watching it ramp up. Some problems I see is zombies spawning with depth strider boots getting stuck under the villagers. Also some can spawn with respiration helms and wont be converted to drowned.

I knew about the depth strider boots, there is unfortunately not much that can be done about it. They are very rare and thus shouldn't be too much of a problem. If you switch off the farm and leave the area they will just despawn. The respiration helms is an interesting one, I didn't know zombies could be affected by it, however it doesn't really matter because they will just get sucked in and die with the rest of the drowned.

I kinda solved this issue with turtle eggs. Just put them on the other side of the trapdoor wall. The adult drowns with depth strider will head for the eggs for a while then again head for the villagers but will be just pushed and fall. But for the small drowns, they wont fall because their speed is too fast and will just head right back to the villagers. So I placed a row of magma block just under the villagers hoping that might killed them over time. After all, since the mob cap doesn't affect the farm, it really wont matter. But i do recommend the turtle eggs. It is simple and easy extra step that might be something.

I think I found a way of making the farm more efficient/ Laggy XD you can use trapdoors (you just push them in a circle ) to push the zombies and in that case there can be more zombies per killing chamber (entity cramming limit) instead of stacking up at the scaffolding because of the collision pushing from mobs (it could be a way of compacting the farm for the same rates)

Honestly, metal building blocks should have 2 variants in my opinion, solid and plated. Solid should just mainly be there as a way to compress a lot of ingots into block form, so as usual 9 ingots to a block. But I think plated blocks, should just be wood and 1 ingot per block (you wouldn't be able to craft it back to ingots), and this would give you all your fancy building block variants. Honestly, I think a change like that can help a ton. Plus it would make sense given typically when people build with metals, it's rare it's solid.

that's not too complex to make too. and it's quite compact considering the quantity of stuff that you get
