This is such a fresh take on Cruise's usual character archetypes: he starts out as a cowardly bureaucrat who undergoes a MASSIVE character development as he becomes the usual Tom Cruise role. His yelps are some of the best parts of his comedic chops. He's definitely living a video game avatar.

True. It's quite odd watching TC start out so openly cowardice. There's WotW, but that role was very grim and serious. It's more accurate to describe the character as "afraid" or "panicky". And who wouldn't be with a bunch of giant alien murder machines roaming around disintegrating and liquefying everyone.

@@madisynissaquah243 Whether someone laughs or not, or how much, is irrelevant. The humor is THERE in the movie... just cos drones like you cannot appreciate it, doesn't mean it isn't. Do you honestly think the number of times you watch a movie makes you some kind of higher authority? Get over yourself. No one cares, no one is impressed. It's f*cking cinema snobs like you that ruin the movie-watching experience for everyone, with your pretentious criticizing of others' reactions just cos it's not how "you" would react. I'm surprised so many like this movie. The time loop trope of repeating the same day over and over to get further each time has been done hundreds of times by basically every sci-fy show since the 60s to present, and in many instances much better. Stargate SG1 has some of the best. Star Trek, Black Mirror, Outer Limits, X-files, and literally hundreds more.

@@Metal0sopher The execution in this film is a couple levels above most others. Astounding cinematography, well-written, funny script and starring one of the best action actors in movie history (and Emily Blunt's no slouch herself). The idea that there are many tv shows that did this concept "much better" is laughable. I'm not trying to change your mind (that doesn't happen on the internet), just listing some of the reasons your arguments will seem bizarre to most people.

Someone may have mentioned it, but the kiss was not in the script, it was an ad-lib by Emily Blunt. I think that scene got across beautifully how emotionally compelling it would be for someone *you* only met that day to be so sincerely, earnestly attached to you. "I wish I could have gotten to know you better" is a great line. My favorite bit of this film is one that had you laughing - the "maggot montage". Terence Maynard was fantastic in that role. The loop reboots in a 24 hour span to the past. All the previous times Cage dies it's the a day "after" he was sent to the base during the battle. The last reboot was from the morning he is sent to the base, a few hours after he meets Rita. Cage exploded the Omega, got covered in it's blood, then a split second before the Omega dies Cage resets. So he is back to earlier in the morning when he first landed in London.

I love this movie, but I just skip the beginning parts where he goes from Major to Private. It's just too unbelievable, and it pulls me out of the story ever time. Just, no. None of that would happen (the General would not want an untrained officer in charge of his troops, he wouldn't be allowed to discipline him unilaterally, he wouldn't be able to remove his commission, he wouldn't be allowed to demote him at all. Courts exist in the military for a reason. It's just too much on top of too much, lol). Just have him be a conscript fighting reluctantly, like the manga it's based on.

Almost everyone comments about how Rita died on the beach originally so, if Cage killed the Omega after the beach, she'd be dead permanently. BUT in the version of the day when she was killed on the beach, she stopped to look at him, interact with him (sort of), etc. If he's not there (or he changes what he does or where he is at that moment on the beach), she wouldn't necessarily be in that same spot at that same moment -- or, at the very least, she wouldn't have stopped right in that spot to look at him -- when the explosion would've hit her. Sort of a Butterfly Effect situation.

Bill Cage killed an alpha and got covered in its blood... so he took its ability to restart the day, using his connection to the Omega... However, the Omega was oblivious to who has its power, but sensed that it was not in control of its ability to reset the day. So, it mentally projected a trap in the vision for Cage to see and lure him to the dam, where it attempted to identify him and try take its power back. It did the same w/ Rita Vrataski at the previous battle of Verdun, and after Rita lost her ability to reset the day... time was allowed to continue and despite the victory, she knew that the Omega was planning the winning battle. After Cage destroyed the Omega and the link to all its soldiers, he absorbed its blood, but this time... he took its power and restarted the day. Thus, when Bill Cage restarted the day in the end, the Omega (which was killed in the future) had no power and the energy surge from its location in Paris indicated that it died as a result of Cage's restart... and Cage is not linked to the Mimic army, so without the Omega's control... the Mimic army is useless.

Cage got completly railroaded. You don't send a pencil pusher with no training or combat experience as an infantry grunt. It puts everyone in danger.

I watch it late at the cinema. It was only me and 1 couple. I laugh my ass off watching this. Really love Tom Cruise acting in this one and you can see the suffering and he continues to change death by death. He looks defeated when he continuously asks Emily not to start the heli. fun fact, this movie is actually an adaptation of Japanese manga(comic)

People (at least Americans) in rural areas would put their keys behind the sun shade. In my home town, we never locked our houses when we left. When I went to college, and started dating a girl from the big city, she came to visit me over the summer, and she was amazed that we never locked our doors. But I never even had a key to my house, as a child. I never needed one.

The fact that Bisscute gets the humour of this movie is awesome, and yet another reason to be a subscriber to this channel. 👍✌❤

I think, its funny if you're familiar with the ideas at play, its existentially horrifying to people unfamiliar

The keys on the visor, it's called a plot device. Just like when a city police officer calls a friend who is a federal agent to run a name in a database, it's a plot device for exposition.

I understand the transparency setting and why you do it, but for night scenes you need to make it less transparent... I couldn't see crap other than your room (the background) when ever it was a night time shot of the movie.

One of the better action movies made I say. But just like the equally awesome Dredd, it was criminally under appreciated. I hear the issue with this one was just terrible marketing and promotion.

FANTASTIC REACTION!! Your laughter is like serotonin injected directly into my brain! It's so satisfying! You HAVE TO react to more comedies!! And yes the comedy scenes are actually comedy scenes, you're not sadistic lol. To me this movie was next to perfect, i love military sci-fi, they did the time travel thing really well, fantastic casting, acting, comedy, story, action - to me it's a solid 4.8 on 5, 0.2 because I wanted a bit more military action - AND here's my movie suggestion! This is a HILARIOUS movie about an 'office worker' forced to go in the field as a spy, and it's named "Spy" (2015) with Melissa Mccarthy, VERY FUNNY. Hope you choose it!
