From someone who recently renovated their house, your vision is exactly what I would do. Even though the house is liveable, moving the laundry room upstairs and turning it into a butlers pantry is smart. I can’t believe it’s going to take a whole year for the things you mentioned in the video. Our house took 10 months after we demo’ed… maybe reno moves faster in California? Either way, it will be worth it. Ending is so relatable! Our contractors accidentally tore out the old closet system after we told them it should stay and not part of the demolition lol

Having 3 teenagers, I would suggest not permanently eliminating the option for them to have separate rooms. Our children change so much throughout the years and although they are close right now, that will change. I couldn't imagine the fights that would ensue if my two teen boys had to share a room at their current life stage.

I have a bathroom with a very similar layout and windows as yours, mine needs to be gutted completely as well. I’m not sure what to do yet as I do want to keep a tub, I don’t prefer how the 2 vanities are separate. Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!

Not sure if you guys have talked about window treatments, but you could really tell a huge difference in the light in the rooms with the plantation shutters vs the shades in Alex's office! The plantation shutters, even when open, block so much natural light! I'm sure if you swapped them for something like a bamboo shade it would not only go with your style better but let in a ton more natural light!!

That’s a lot of value lost… But it was a five bedroom home that they have now decreased to a three bedroom home. A 3/3 will have considerably less resale value for sure! Sadly, they are structural changes that cannot be undone without significant additional expense.

There’s 2 more bedrooms for the kids. Right now they share a room and they love it so they want to continue doing that. One room will be for sleeping and one as a playroom. Once they’re older when they want more privacy they will have their own room!
