I had just moved to Las Vegas in June of 1997 and I can tell you that our Summer Monsoon season was definitely one to be remembered! Very busy that summer! Lot's of thunderstorms!

Love watching these old clips. I like the second, third, fifth, and sixth local forecast songs......and love the fourth one. Brings tears to my eyes when I hear it. Ohhhh, those were the good ol days. Been watching TWC since I was 4......now I'm about to be 37.

1997 was a good year for TWC. Still had the OG meteorologists, Trammell Starks on the LFs, you could tune in at just about any point of the hour and actually get weather information without the extra news magazine segments and distractions. Crisp, watchable, genuine TWC. I don't even turn to it any more.

I have to say the best era of the weather channel was during the 80s and 90s, after the early 2000's it went downhill and turned into a bunch of hype like it is today.

I'm really feeling the 1997 vibe here. I was a 2-year-old doing whatever 2-year-olds do. I like the graphics of this time period because they were fresh and modern for the day, yet at the same time maintained a "classic" or "retro" feel.

Those were the golden days of TWC, visually. Used to be the highlight of my afterschool; I was eight at the time. 26:28 is what made me pursue a career in motion graphics.

This is a VERY COLD map for early August. It's one of the coldest I've seen, certainly since that year, 1997. Mid 60's at noon in Dallas is unheard of on Aug. 7th!

From watching this clip, I definitely remember this from the radar clip. My mother died the next day on August 8, 1997. It was a Friday morning and Memphis had Heavy, Severe Thunderstorms that whole morning and afternoon. It was so loud.

I knew I remember seeing the Marine Forecast down there, and I was right! Seems like all former Garden State systems had them. I remember for sure the Atlantic City XL did.
@gfalcon8 жыл бұрын
On these flavors that debuted in 1995, It replaced the extended forecast on the 60 and 90 second flavors. At first it replaced the extended forecast in ALL of the newly created flavors, but that made the extended forecast very, very rare (you had to wait for an overnight 3-minute flavor) The extended forecast was brought back to the 2-minute flavors sometime in 1996.
@gfalcon8 жыл бұрын
It appeared on the 2-minute LF's. All of the screen timings were shortened which allowed for extra time to insert the marine forecast before the tides screen. This same practice was done on the WS4000 E flavors (pre-1995)... the screens were shortened and the marine forecast appeared between the extended forecast and current radar. When the XL flavors were revamped in spring 2002, the marine forecast was dropped.

only one... from around christmas 2001
@gfalcon8 жыл бұрын
a couple of other odd tidbits about the XL's marine forecast... 1. The re-timing of the LF screens somehow disabled Alan Jackson's narration except for the current conditions at the begining. 2. Whenever there was a weather bulletin scrolling at the bottom... there was no marine forecast, the screen durations were normal, and the narration would be intact throughout the entire LF.

Soft spoken female meteorologists that enunciated their Ss and Ts. I’m pretty sure TWC in the 90s is where I discovered what is now known as ASMR.
