I’m intrigued by these little vans. I’ve thought on a Jeep for several years, wanting to get off paved roads to further my landscape photography. Not wanting to go rock climbing or plow through mud bogs, just more ground clearance than my MINI Cooper Roadster. I’m thinking I could set one of them up as a “base camp” (bed, fridge, minimal kitchen). Lots of options as you’ve shown.

You're doing a great job here. Obviously very knowledgeable on the Kei-market. I'm really considering buying one to play around with. Looks like the place your test drives has a good inventory. Thanks!!

I'd choose the Suzuki as well. (I may be biased--I currently drive a '95 Carry.) I just think they're easier to work on (important if you're buying a vehicle at least 25 years old), and I think parts are more plentiful and easier to access, even here in the States. I'd steer clear of the Hondas, especially now that Honda is no longer making or marketing the Acty.

Yeah that Suzuki is nice for the price point. I think the bravo is definitely worth $900 more being AWD and more features but I had a bravo already

I just bought a Street directly from japan and waiting for it to make to the states. I'm excited because its not as completely decked out like the top Street there but it has all the features you were boasting on that one. The cali mirrors, aftermarket radio, the clock, the tach, split bench rear seats. The only thing I don't know if mine has is the rear hatch lock button because its not shown in any of the pics that i have

I'm going away from the electrical components. Power windows, doors seats, etc. are just more things to fail and inconvenience you. You can even keep the power steering. All I need is air conditioning, 4x4 and maybe cruise cntrl since I'm mostly on the highway. Sometimes I feel like all the new tech on cars is built to be solutions looking for a problem.

Great comparison. I love these kei's. Suzuki started their line in 1961! Great quality, well and smartly built to last. You still see many in Asia. In the Philippines they import from Japan, rebuilt and change them to left hand drive. Price range around Php 150k to 250k ($ 3,000 to 5,000). the main reason a 6.1 ft can lye down from front seats to rear door enough length. id build to frames right (bed)and left(storage) up to rear seats one for bed one for storage and counter top, but center island section what slides from between the units )bed/storage units) to the top 1/4 of the bed when seats flat so full length bed but when travelling slide end bed what on top rear seats into the center two units put seats up you got a 4 seat van so for night away sleep in van . as most van metal on inside curtains with magnets easy to put up take down all light weight. these vans with bench seat real useful . only way to do that with no bench seat is remove it but bench seat it can be one person micro camper van and less than a min become 4 seat van and most the time ones in back it short trips. bench seats make it so easy for a micro camper what can be changed in 1 min to seat 4 win win

These seem kind of cool and fun to play with for camping. And many of them have 4WD which is very shocking. But why isn't their gas mileage a bit higher? You would think with it being as compact as it is, and so small it should get a bit higher on the gas mileage like the 80s mini cars did that could get to 40+? This part seems strange. Is it partly to do with them being 2 stroke engines? And many people say the gas mileage is about 30 mpg.
