Very informative video about its usefulness on the highway. The way the engine is spinning is similar to riding a small motorcycle on the highway, it gets tiring with the engine screaming. My 94 Corvette is the opposite of that. At 60 in top gear the engine is ticking over just a little bit above idle speed.

My 1990 Subaru Sambar Try XS Supercharge will get 30mpg if I keep the speed at 80kmh. That is typical cruise speed on highway in Japan. Faster doesn't mean you'll get there first. I often pass people on down the highway who passed me previously. At 80kmh my engine turns at 4300rpm. What kills these engines is excess RPMs (spin bearing). The engine must be kept at 'peak tune' to run optimally and efficiently. That means full tune up, timing correct, maintenance up. I'll be driving mine from Renton, Wa. to HB, Ca. (~1370 miles each way) come end of December.
