I am impressed at the speed and efficiency of the build but for over $8k I would have expected some 12v electrical work too; maybe a few charge points and a split charger and battery. But very tidy.

Thanks for taking a risk and creating something different. Simple. Unique. Adaptable. Don’t listen to those that are saying it’s too expensive or not enough features. This is your product. You put the work in to design and develop. It’s a good product for those that can’t do their own conversions. Keep at it.

I'm a big DIYer and I can appreciate the simplicity of this build. Solar, water, heating and especially insulation are all variables that depend on where and how the owner wants to use the vehicle. This looks like it has been designed so it can easily be pulled apart and improved by anyone at a later date. Economics of scale can only improve the value for a business that wants to grow and there is a market for keeping things simple. Good job.

Thanks James and that's exactly how approach our builds. We make them simple and modular so the new owner can add in the amenities that they'd like later on down the road, saving time and money on only the items they feel fit. Also, if the new owner has questions about amenities to add, we can help advise them on products.

I love it. Keep doing what you're doing. The market needs an affordable option to camper vans. I looked at the Nissan NV200 conversion for $55k. Its nice but so tiny and doesn't seat belt enough people for me to buy it. Then I looked at the new Revel 4x4 overland van and its $125k-ish. Finance over 20 years I guess makes it accessible but still not for me. I hope you can expand your kits to other vehicles because I like how you can buy a shell and plug in your parts in a day and be on the road in hours. I am thinking about buying a 4x4 truck ($40k) with a 4wheelcamper shell model ($10k) and build it out myself. If you made plug and play kitchens for shell campers I'd be interested. Or maybe I'll do a van? I don't know? How about a Ford Transit? Im not a fan of the Dodge.

Love the concept, but I think you could really improve aesthetics. I'd go with wood color matched cabinet doors instead of the white and change the counter top to a lighter better matching color. I'd want color matched fasteners for ceilings and walls and more consistent color for wall coverings instead of white and gray. I think you went a little overboard with the modular concept for the walls and might want to revisit the design for a more consistent finished look. I really doubt folks are constantly removing and re-installing the kit. I expect they will keep the kit installed, but perhaps swap to another van later. I do think you are very close to having a great product that just needs some aesthetic improvements.

Hello, We wouldn't be able to up-fit a shower or a composting toilet, or electrical, but we can point you to some partners of ours who can. Also the bed can take about 1500lbs, and we're using 100% wool now for our insulation, which is moisture and mildew resistant and maintains a high R-value.

When you insulate don't you have to put a vapor barrier? Or else there will be condensation on the cold side (on the sheet metal)?
@WayfarerVans
@WayfarerVans 4 жыл бұрын
Hello, This video is pretty old and we have since made many improvements. For example, we are using 100% wool for our insulation now, which does not require a vapor barrier. It's naturally moisture wicking and non-absorbent, resists mold and mildew and is even a fire retardant. Therefore there is no need for a vapor barrier. Check out one of our latest videos - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gme0Yoyrn8aca6M

I've heard of denim insulation, does it work? How does it do in hot weather? Will it keep the van cool or do you suggest another type of insulation. I can deal with colder temps better than HOT! (not planning on travelling to Michigan in January, lol!) Thanks! :)
@WayfarerVans
@WayfarerVans 6 жыл бұрын
We've actually adopted a 100% wool insulation with our kit now. Keeping the van, or any van, cool is always a challenge, no matter what type of insulation you go with. The most effective way of keeping it a comfortable temp during the summer is circulating air. Luckily, we've adapted our kit for those who live in much hotter climates can install a ceiling vent fan to do so.

It depends on climate. Here in Colorado we don't find much need for a vent fan. However for more humid or hot climates then we do recommend a fan. Which can be installed either before or after the kit is installed.

Are the wall panels acrylic as well? Ceiling too? I don’t know much about acrylic material but I looked it up just now and they say it’s mostly for showers. I take it it’s easy to clean then? Hey Michael, If you have shore power (or need it) then you're relegating yourself to an RV park or someplace with hookups, which isn't what we're about. We like to say we put the "camp" back in camper van (we don't build mobile condos with all the amenities). So we focus on simple, quality builds, then educate you on things you can do to make it more comfortable while spending your time outside - which should be the reason you got a van in the first place right!? Here's what we recommend for heat wayfarervans.com/2020/02/06/upgraded-heating-in-your-wayfarer-van/ And here's what we recommend for power wayfarervans.com/2019/12/05/power-supply/

Also, Jillian had an A/C unit installed in her van, and if she wanted a ceiling vent fan we would have gladly provided one for her.

Recycled denim for insulation? *SMH* No way.

Actually, we've discontinued the recycled denim and are now using 100% wool, which is mold, mildew and moisture resistant - while also providing a high r-value.

9k for 3hrs of labor it definitely shows. Looks terrible.

We're very sorry you feel that way Laura. However, the cost of the kit isn't actually in the labor to install it, its for the many hours of design it takes to create a 100% modular conversion kit. We feel for the price of the kit, to show up with a van and have it converted into a simple camper van within a matter of hours is a incredible value. Most other shops would charge twice as much and take nearly 2-3 weeks to complete something similar. We understand that we're not for everyone and perhaps we can find you something more suited for your needs.

Not even a roof fan for 8 grand. How much extra for the #1 item in a van. Come on dude. Didn’t she want it. Not installing a fan for here was a dereliction of duty. Not very impressive imo.

Hey David, Jillian went on to have an A/C unit installed, something that we don't do in house. Also, some prefer not to have a vent fan but if it is something that they want, we definitely have partners who can install them and that can be done prior to coming to us.

So how much did this build cost? Materials cannot be more then $350. 3 hours labor x 2 @ $150 per hour=$900. Total cost & Labor & parts=$1250. Should not be charging more then $2500 for this.

?? No vapor barrier? Cotton based insulation? No insulation on the floor? No wiring? I'm not sure what I just watched, but I hope there is more to this right? ...and the finished look is, well, not that pleasing. Sorry guys, thumbs down.
@WayfarerVans

We've actually changed our insulation to 100% wool, which is moisture and mildew resistant and requires no vapor barrier. Also there is insulation attached to the bottom portion of the floor pieces, its just not visible in this video. Lastly, our build offers a great jump off point for many new users where you can easily remove any ceiling and/or wall panel to chase wires for "your" electrical needs.

@AaronGeller
@AaronGeller 5 жыл бұрын
Peter, that's not very kind to give the dude a thumbs down because you personally don't understand the cost of research and production this guy had to do to create this product and make a profit from his work. I think the price is reasonable - I know a shop that charges 10k just to do the paneling.... nothing else.

I get the concept but for that price versus what the customer is getting in materials along with 3 hrs of labor is a rip off. The sad part is these unsuspecting customers thinks it's a deal. Shame on you guys.

We're sorry you feel that way, however we feel we're an incredible deal and compared to all other builders we are; all of our competitors would charge twice as much for a similar layout in similar material. What a new van owner doesn't see is the months of work it took to develop such a system, so we can then only takes 3 hours to install, which is an incredible benefit. Logistically, its much easier than the alternative, which is: dropping a van off at some custom builder for them to take 2-4 weeks to build out, then flying back home, having to coordinate more time off work, book another return plane flight and then drive the van home. All of our customers love that we only take 3 hours, because they can then spend more time on the actual fun part, traveling and camping. We even has some great spots to recommend in Colorado for there in-bound and out-bound journey, a benefit and time savings worth the price of a kit alone. Not only is a new owner getting a professionally designed build and it installed for free, but they're also paying for convenience.

total rookie here; we're thinking of going the van route and yea your final product and delivery time is totally worth the price because my time is money and my DIY skills = 0 ! Do you require an appointment? We may head to Colorado this summer and thought to buy a van here in Oregon & drive out there drop it off with you ,go have a long lunch then carry on our merry way. Sound possible???@@WayfarerVans
