Wayfinder has done a complete 180 and moved away from it's always online, Free to Play Shooter concept and embraced a single player / coop model that will be closer to a looter shooter than a hero-shooter.

I wish I could say I won’t support soul frame but it’s sounding good and I just hope that AS could bounce back from this with the echoes update it sounds like a much better game and maybe if it catches more eyes again they could add matchmaking at least

@@youngzay1ftw649 I had a passing interest in the game as an MMO fan but it just didn't do anything to stand out, it was just another F2P MMO that couldn't compete with all the other big games coming out at the time. This Echos update though has completly changed my mind, I've already decide I'll be picking the game up once it's available (on PS5) because I love ARPG's like Diablo as much as I like MMO's.

Digital Extremes' publishing branch was only Wayfinder, no other games. Without Wayfinder their publishing branch has no purpose to even exist.

Why do people keep stating this wrong point of view that DE dropped AS/Wayfinder. They didn't...DE got a new CEO that made the decisions to lay off their whole external publishing department. Had nothing to do with Wayfinder other than fucking AS over.

DE doesn't want to be a publishing company, that's all it is. Yeah some people got axed, but that is unfortunately business. Steve Sinclair is a great dude and he's pushing the company in a better direction, nothing wrong with it.

I played both of Airship Syndicates RPG games, and i gotta tell you. The skill trees, loot, and builds in those games were top notch. I can see them doing some interesting things with this new loot system and skill tree.

I think it would be way more fun as a single player with co-op. I played during the beta and it was fun but it was missing something, mmo's nowadays are a job posing as a hobbie but a single player allows you to play at your own pace call up some mates for weekend fun and just enjoy the game. i just hope they spread awareness for the game so people can jump on and starting playing then eventually the mod community will keep the game fresh

I got the game the very first day it got out, in my opinion what killed the hype was how the servers were off for 3 days which gave me more excitement to try it and after waiting for hours in the queue after 4 days to get in the lobby, I felt like my extra hype or excitement were gone it didn't meet my expectations. And because of the shitty server problem they had for 4 days and me waiting for hours in queue I cant refund the game in steam :) But honestly this step that they are taking now is smart itll at least make them gain back the cost of the developing on the game

One thing I want to note. The game was not, nor is not a shooter like you mentioned in the beginning. It’s class based where 2 of the playable classes do use guns but the other 4 are melee classes. I only mention this because I don’t want people thinking this game is a shooter like Destiny. Especially since most of the gameplay you featured in this video was one of only 2 ranged classes. Of course my comment is only for people who watched this video and have never played Wayfinders, otherwise you’d already know that.

Well technically you can equip guns on any class but yeah it's not a pure shooter.

I think this is for the best. Darksiders with friends. True loot grind. No battlepass or live service second job type content. My only concerns currently is the amount of fetch quests that can be excused in a game that is trying to fight for as much of time as possible need toned down or taken out entirely for a singleplayer game. Also I hope the story has a satisfying conclusion since they had originally intended for the story to take years to tell.

I really hope it finds it footing. I mostly played solo anyways and having more things to grind already sounds better. The only thing I'm really going to miss is the cross play feature since I'm on PS. If I ever got my friends to play it, they'd probably play on PC.

"Online shooter" what parasite fishing for content would ever classify Wayfinder as a shooter. That's like calling Nioh a shooter franchise.

Really hope this game takes off when it releases. Sucks it won't be an mmo but at the same time (outside of server issues) it did not play well as an mmo imho. I love the fact that you can buy the game, own the game, play it offline, and it will have co-op. No microtransactions, you can earn everything in game. Just will depend on word of mouth to spread and hopefully they add content at a later date.

While I do agree that in concept the new system will probably be better for the game, it isn't what I bought and therefor I feel cheated out of my money. I don't get the game I bought (via Founder's Packs) and the services advertised for Founder's Packs for aren't provided (early access didn't really happen due to server issues and the items do get changed for the new game). The whole thing is not only immoral, this is pretty much a breach of contract in my eyes and also seems to clash with consumer protection laws throughout Europe. Meanwhile they have no idea how to handle refunds, while Steam gives some people a refund and deny others. Honestly, I am not sure if I had bought the game with what they are planning now. I don't see AS as the "good guys" and DE as the "bad guys". What DE did sucks as hell, but I don't know what happened between DE and AS behind the scenes, nor what was talked about within AS after DE shut down their publishing branch. I also don't take AS' words for granted. Why? Because I don't trust blindly and there's also something a lot of people seem to forget. Such massive changes take time to develop. Yet we only received the news a few days ago. From my point of view AS has been knowing what's going on for quite some time and failed to make plans, as well as to inform the playerbase about the new direction in a timely manner. At this point in time Wayfinder Early Access doesn't look like an "Early Access" title, but a means to crowdfund a different game. Now, I do hope that the new game will be good and a success. With more good games on the market we all win after all. But I still feel scammed.

I think this is an extremely positive move, these days if you see a game and it says MMO, its the dread of commitment, unnecessary competition, lack of players or thought of P2W from anyone that it just does not have the time for that and just wants to play a game, and if the fixing of the game behind the scenes has made it a better and more stable experience, it may very well be fantastic to play on the steam deck, where most people would spend their time and just chill. It wasnt on my radar because it was a MMO, now that its not, i would like to see sales take off so that then the industry can understand that ideally, most people want co-op games and not some competitive streamer sweatbox, i mean regardless of backlash people love HD2, and its in a odd state of trusting the publisher, but lets be real, that game will always have a healthy playerbase tbh

Research is way better than guessing and if you had actually spent some time looking it up you would find that as stated in the comments below, DE shut down the publishing part of their business.. On a side note, Asmongold was interviewing one of the guys from the dev team yesterday iirc and that interview shines alot of light on the situation.

this is a interesting way to save a game from live service and having online server costs to a honest B2p coop game.. this is actually amazing not only it wont be like shitting on the founders this will actually bring them new players and less costs. warframe survived because some ppl burned their bank accounts buying mods on early stages of the game lol

If they can recover from this issue, i think it could be pretty decent, the servers was, lets be honest awful, co-op was extreamly hard to set up in the world with friends, turning it to a player side hosted game, i was probably only going to play with 1-2 friends anyways, and every thing, absolutely every premium item, mounts / skins / housing will be free to earn in game, so, kind for people that is not Founders whis is kinda a little of a W, i dont know if the founders will be compensated in any way, but we at least get our founders rewards. the 2 BP that was promised will just be base game things. Overall this is not exactly doom and glood for launch, it`s more consumer friendly, i think i`d rather pay for a Expansion once in a while, instead of overpriced pay to win weapons, or grinding battle passes to get characters or coultess hours of radom drop chance. Early access is a gamble, and we might not just have lost yet, and for 25 bucks, i think you could have a lot of fun, when they release what they have been cooking, at least woth the base price for new people, but only time will tell, they have worked hard to balance and change the game to work as a solo +3 ppl game, they did not just remove mmo and stopped, so they have cooked. at least what they have claimed.

@@nikolasferreira3247 well the dungeons only supported as far as i know 4 people, but i guess in out doors activity you lose out, but i have no idea how you manage to meet up with friends, because the servers was so bad, we have to do a dungeon, then leave the dungeon to make us be in the same shard. but hey, i did not say it was perfect, it`s either this or they give up on the game and you have no game to play at all. You can at least play in a party of 3 and one of 4, and rotate who plays together. I`d rather thake this then they shutting down the game, and we get absolutely nothing.

The circumstance sucks for the developers, and it seems like they were forced to either go this route or let the game disappear entirely. It seems like they're trying to do the right thing and at least offer what they can to current backers by salvaging the situation, but redesigning the game in such a quick timeframe leaves me skeptical. I hope they can pull it off, though, cuz the game does look cool, and also, they shouldn't receive 100% of the outrage if this was out of their control.

Question if I bought it on ps5 founders pack will I still have to pay in the summer for the echos version because my understanding is that people who have paid for it before will just get access to the game but it sounds like only steam will get that while the rest of us will have to pay.

Yes any founder will have the game,you can play the game right now (same game as before), on May 31 any founder will have access to the Echoes update and on Jun 11 full release for everyone.

AS should make a soft launch for ps5 aswell to let the ps5 players test it and judge it...i dont understand why only steam? This won't help at all with the player base on the ps5. If they dont even let the players try and test it, considering this is a breach of contract and damaging the trust... I'm not sure how to feel at all about this change.

A few things in the first minute: - Calling it an online shooter is reductive, or just inaccurate - To clarify: DE's decision to stop being the publisher seems to have nothing to do with Wayfinder. DE got a new CEO and shut down their entire publishing wing. It was unfortunate timing for Wayfinder, but likely had nothing to do with the game.

ok you got so many things wrong 1. DE "backed out" cause its publishing unit was shuttered leaving AS to fend for themselves and pay out of their pocket. all the founders old wayfinder money went to DE not to AS 2. They said they still want to make wayfinder a long running IP withs sequels spin offs etc. they never said thats it buddy. they even said in the echoes blog in the path ahead section that they want to continue releasing dlc and updating for YEARS

The game is gonna be boring af. World zones and events will feel empty. No point in founders packs now since people will just mod the skins in themselves. Housing and all the mmo aspects that they promised means nothing now. The game is a shitshow and they should have just shut it down for now and try to bring the mmo back with a different publisher. The whole looter shooter aspect would have even be better with the mmo aspects as well so no this new direction is just an overall worse product.

Yeh actually reportet them to the German Consumer office and EU. They literally sold an MMO and broke Steam Early Access Rules even with crowdfunding an Single player Co Op game. I don't care who is at fault and who isn't. AS signed a contract with DE knowingly and signed the Early Access Steam contract.
