Carl was such a natural. I really missed him when he retired. Carlene has some of his Charisma. I am so happy he had beautiful Goldie, & enjoyed the ranch.

I loved the six hour long specials "Waylon Jennings and Friends" on TNN in 1996. This medley makes me smile every time, because I get to watch my musical hero perform with one of his own musical heroes. You can see the rapport between them. Carl later recorded a duet with Waylon on Waylon's final solo studio album "Closing In On the Fire".

When I was a boy Carl Smith was my mother’s favorite singer. Even back then he became mine. Siting on the floor by the radio on Saturday night listening to the Opry and waiting for Carl or Lefty to come on. That is when I learned to love real Country Music Listening to the songs of the fifties.
!❤My favorite song and singer I have listened to this at least hundreds of times.

I’m so glad to have found this video again. It’s been a couple of years since it’s been posted. Carl Smith never lost his charm and personality when he sang. Certainly a plus to have Waylon singing alongside him. Enjoying your channel and love reading the history you provide.

ANY IDEA WHEN THIS WAS RECORDED ?
@halwright80814 жыл бұрын
Waylon filmed six episodes of "Waylon Jennings and Friends", which I recall aired on TNN in 1996. I think they were great fun, and there are other videos floating around on KZbin from those shows. I'd love to see whoever owns the rights to the series release them on DVD and digital formats. Interest in Waylon's music still seems live and well, so I think it would be marketable.

Back when the words made sense there was a message in the song and it had a chorus had a good dance beat and something you may have lived though yourself unlike today were the same words meaningless over and over the reason why say meaningless is because there’s no message it’s a part chorus repeated over and over what ever the message you could obtain out of what little bit of words there is would not take up the amount of time the song does there are a few good artists out there that sting hang there hat partly on country but you can hear the other branches of music being grafted in I’ve always said from growing up listin to Waylon as a kid in the late 70s and the 80s they are always looking to turn it pop all the time it’s people like Ricky Skaggs as I remember bringing back the bluegrass roots in the 80s but that would not stop the push to pop by the establishment look in the 90s what you get with the video comming out it let the establishment pop it up and then you get Garth I’m not saying anything bad about him I like most of his music but have you ever listen to him say what he listen to growing up like james Taylor was one of his influences I like a lot of musicians see nothing wrong with Taylor but he’s not old school original country you never here these young artists say well I listen to Conway and haggard or I was a Tammy Wynette and dodie west fan hell I haven’t heard any of them even say they were Garth fans so we’re they get there influences today I don’t know but leads me to my own personal new choice and he’s got a rock influence behind him but he worked with David Allen coe now there is a country music influence he’s got songs he’s wrote hed dose some old ones but I think he’s the most accurately influenced original country western music person out here to day that has the sound the message the chorus but they don’t play him much on the air ways and that’s Chris Stapleton with his wife backing him up on the singing you can hear Waylon and others in songs he sings he sounds a little like Travis Tritt wich he was a decent artist he didn’t go to far out of the boundary’s but he ate his an got out or was pushed out ad I think that happens you make it the people are hungry for your music and I think the establishment lives with that fora moment but they get them in contracts sayings they have to make 4-5 albums in a certain amount of time and that those albums have to have a hit or more on each one and they got a check for so much and pen with contract and you ain’t seen a 100 bill so long you do t know who’s on it but your sign that thing and find out because your gonna be famous for a little bit then it’s fill that contract and if they turn the heat on someone else then you won’t make it and I think that what they want feed you peanuts then take that little bit away love you busted they made most of the cash from all your talent made it impossible to rise above and left like Johnny paycheck wrote and sang (sometimes I fell like a old violin soon to be put away and never played again ) I think George strait and Allen Jackson got it right when they sang SOMEONE COMMITTED MURDER DOWN ON MUSIC ROW
