Luckenbach is basically a crossroads, with a saloon, country store and Post Office. This song revived the town, as people wanted to see what Waylon was singing about, as you just expressed, "Nobody Feelin' No Pain" means simply that nobody has to be if a hurry or feel pressured to perform, but rather can return to their roots and be humans and not Stars.

Yea all in one building haha. We were there in 1976 and passed through the place and actually had to turn around and go back. My dad was stationed at Ft Hood at the time. I can remember when they also visited Gilly's.

A song I remembered yesterday by Merle Haggard. His tribute song to Elvis when he died. Elvis gave Johnny cash his first job. They all knew one another. It’s called “From Graceland to the Promised Land”. It truly is a beautiful song. And his performance is beautiful as well.

Luckenbach, Tx is a tiny little place. It’s most famous resident was a man named Hondo Crouch. He was a rancher, author and Humorist. Supposedly, he was quite the sight in his wore out boots showing up to his school’s University of Texas football games and sitting among ex governors and other dignitaries. After writing books and Waylon and Willie making his home world famous, some writer showed up taking pics and interviewing him. The city guy couldn’t believe his ranch pickup that Hondo drove him around in. The dashboard was piled high with tools and old cigar boxes filled with smaller tools! He was quite the character. On a visit to the Texas Hill Country, my grandma bought one of his books. Fredericksburg is the big town in the region and as the name implies, the area has a large German population and influence. When driving through the area, there were rock walls around old rock farmhouses. It takes quite the craftsman to stack rock with no morter to make them stay up for 150 years! You have to know what you’re doing! By the way, Willie and Waylon sang this song as a duet, and Willie’s part has him singing “Willie and Waylon and the boys!”

Luchenbach brings back good memories. I'm no singer but when my son was born the song was fairly new and I would sing it to him as I rocked him to sleep at night. Baby didn't like the usual lullabies. When he was around 12, we went to Luckenbach, Texas...it was his idea and lots of fun. He was my only child and passed away at 31, a little over 10 years ago. I miss him very much but love the memories.

My brother in law was Wes Jacops. He played with Waylon in the very beginning. They were cousins. Wes was drafted and be came a 10year Staff Sergeant. He got out and went work with my father. When Waylon came to Jackson Ms. he stayed at Wes's house and I always got a back stage pass. Went on tour with them when I was 18.

Question: "What's in Luchenbach?" If you go there, YOU are in Luckenbach. Hopefully, if you bring them along, those whom you LOVE are in Luckenbach. If you stay there long enough and bring a love for the simple unpretentious life, then your soul will reside in Luckenbach. That's the central message of this song. It doesn't matter where you are, what you have (materially), etc. What matters is that you reorient your soul to experience gratitude and express love. That's the beauty of it. So glad the wonderful owner of this channel is checking out this genre of music and building bridges with her work. Great job!

The best version of this song is the album version of a duet with Waylon & Willie Nelson. Luckenbach is where Willie would take his friends to get way from the crowds & play dominoes. They aren't feeling any pain cause there just drinking & playing music. In Willie's first movie Honeysuckle Rose, Willie has a family reunion with the band in Luckenbach & everyone gets drunk & have a ot of fun.

About this song Waylon said, "I knew it was a hit song even though I didn't like it. And still don't). The original version is worth listening to. It has a slower tempo which fits the theme of the song better and there's a surprise guest singer at the end (hint: he's named in the song).

At Luckenback, everyone is laid back . it's a bar, post office, little store where people just go to relax. It has a huge outdoor stage where some big names have performed. And you never know when they might show up. It's always been a fun place to visit. I was lucky enough to have visited a few times when performers have played and we always had a great time. I think Willie held his 4th of July picnic concert and gatherings there until they had more people than the local facilities could handle. Willie has always been cool to fans and regular people in general. If some locals were distressed about the huge crowds, he wouldn’t want them to suffer!

There is almost nothing in Luckenbach, TX. There are just a few buildings: post office, saloon, general store and a dance hall. At the time the song was recorded, the population of Luckenbach was in the single digits. Less than 10 people lived there. Waylon said in his biography that one of the cowriters, Chips Moman, had brought it to Waylon but told Waylon “I got a song here and you can’t do it because your name’s in it”. Waylon knew the song would be a hit but he didn’t like it. He recorded it anyway simply because Chips told him he couldn’t. Neither Chips Moman, Bobby Emmons (the other writer), or Waylon Jennings had ever been to Luckenbach, TX. He just said that it was a tiny town in Texas where you could get away from everything. Another great artist, Jerry Jeff Walker, recorded a lot of his songs in Luckenbach.
@757optim2 жыл бұрын
In what I assume was the studio version of Willie and Waylon performing the song together that I used to hear on the radio, the reference to Mickey Newbury, "Newbury's train songs", is changed to a reference to Jerry Jeff Walker, "Jerry Jeff's train songs" in the later verse. When Willie comes in, he also changes "With Waylon and Willie and the boys" to "With Willie and Waylon and the boys". Willie & Waylon were at the top of the heap in those fun days.

Outlaw country isn’t just the sound. The lyrics are also “alt”. Examples: • Delia’s Gone • Cocaine Blues • Don’t You Think This Outlaw Bit’s Done Got Out of Hand • A Boy Named Sue These and more had foul language, drug use, murder, and so forth that made them something that wouldn’t have come from Nashville before then, and probably not now either.

Waylon was suppose to have been on the plane(crashed, "the day the music died") that killed Buddy Holly, J.P "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and Ritchie Valens. Waylon gave his seat to The Big Bopper, because he had been so sick, and their bus' heater was broken. He dealt with survivors guilt ever since. If he hadn't given up his seat, just think of all the good music we wouldn't have had.
