I've been developing a real appreciation for some country music, especially artists like Waylon, because it's masculine. It's not this wussy, screaming, pop-culture, flavor-of-the-moment, stuff. A man singing like a man. A voice that sounds like the man who owns it actually has a spine. Cool, man! Praise the Lord.

Joplin, Rimes, Pink and all others who have murdered this iconic song, listen carefully to how Mr. Jennings sings it. The way Kris meant it to be sung.
@johnsudar556718 күн бұрын
Joplin murdered this song? Hmm. I'll say this: A classic like this can be done any number of ways by a variety of artists, and its a tribute to the song that that's the case. I don't think there's one way to interpret a great song. Finally, Kris, himself, loved Janis's version: He said it brought him to tears and he listened to it over and over again.

Waylon's book had such a profound effect on me, the more I got to know about his personal triumphs, the more I appreciated his artistry. Waylon's biggest flaw? He always thought he was not a very good guitar player!? Exactly what does Waylon consider good? His image was one thing,but in truth a humble and good man. And man could he sing!
@ScotchArsh9 жыл бұрын
Tommy Petersen You got it! The Book is absolutely amazing. I loved the man and respected his work. Even more so, after reading his words. What a hell of a man.
@tommypetersen25409 жыл бұрын
Brian French nice to find another Waylon fan! Hearing this it just astounds me that it took him so long to truly break out. That voice was so recognizable as was his playing. Waylon ( as you know) was never comfortable with the outlaw image... Which really does make him a true outlaw). Favorite part of the book has to be either sitting with shooter in the restaurant or him meeting the blind girl. As you said, a hell of a man.

+Tommy Petersen a lot of years ago i went to drive in in welland ontario and saw a movie called nashville rebel. there was a song called green river. i instantly loved the song. about a month later i went to ottawa ontario to visit my grandfather and play some golf. i read in the paper that there was a guy called waylon jennings playing a little nightclub called the chamberlain room in the vicinity. i couldn't get there fast enough. he put on one hell of a show. he had broken his ankle and had to do the show sitting down but he looked just like the guy in this video, short hair cowboy shirt. not like the look he had later in his life. always liked him and watched his career grow almost from the beginning. miss him alot.
@tommypetersen25408 жыл бұрын
+Denis Lessard WOW! so jealous that you got to see him live. I know he came here to Toronto a few times but that was when I was too embarrassed/stupid to admit I liked country music. Of course Waylon was not just country, he simply was MUSIC regardless of genre. Around the time you saw him would have been when he got into a bar fight at the Horseshoe Tavern here. The story is in his book and it is hilarious!!!

Mind-blowing! 👉😍💓🌹 👉👍Busted flat in Baton Rouge, headin' for the trains, Feelin' nearly faded as my jeans. Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained, Took us all the way to New Orleans. Took my harpoon out of my dirty red bandana And was blowin' sad while Bobby sang the blues, With them windshield wipers slappin' time and Bobby clappin' hands we finally sang up every song That driver knew. Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose, And nothin' ain't worth nothin' but it's free, Feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues, And buddy, that was good enough for me, Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee. 👉From the coalmines of Kentucky to the California sun, Bobby shared the secrets of my soul, Standin' right beside me through everythin' I done, And every night she kept me from the cold. 👉Then somewhere near Salinas, Lord, I let her slip away, She was lookin' for the love I hope she'll find, Well I'd trade all my tomorrows for a single yesterday, Holdin' Bobby's body close to mine. 👉👉Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose, And nothin' left was all she left to me, Feelin' good was easy, Lord, when Bobby sang the blues, And buddy, that was good enough for me. In my DJ days, back in 1968, Waylon came up to me backstage and asked if there was a coffee shop nearby. I told him there was so he said let's go get a cup. As we were walking out the door, Tex Ritter hollered "Wait for me" and came with us. There I was, in a booth with Waylon and Tex and I didn't say a word the whole time. Waylon was upset because Chet Atkins wouldn't let him do things his way and Tex tried to convince him to relax, he was making good money and on the good tours. Actually, just listening to Tex Ritter talk was the biggest thrill. That deep South accent with his booming voice way like honey in my ears.
