Welcome to 2023, a new year, a new us, and a new approach to the Cause of Death / The Appalachian Son Show. In this video, we will discuss a variety of things including an old wives tale, the origin story of "hillbilly gothic", and all the accounts that just might prove Waylon Jennings was haunted by Hank Williams Sr.

Good stuff bud. The driving beat you mention is a throwback to his days with Buddy Holly. Same backbeats and timings when Waylon was bassist for the Crickets.

Love your Mountain Mortuary skits. My hillbilly cousin and I laugh so hard because we can pick out which family members would do some of the things you talk about. I understand exactly what you mean about your upbringing and how you go one way or the other. The hardest part is when the folks that stay rural try to run you down for bettering yourself. Also, this format was really natural.

I was a singing drummer in a Southern Rock/Country/Classic Rock/Etc band and all of us heard Ronnie Van Zant hollering support for us on stage when we were kicking ass on one of his songs. This was a common thing. But we were really good at playing Southern Rock with authentic soul, feel, and sound, and I can sing like Ronnie, Danny Joe Brown, Willie, Hank Jr and it is a very powerful form of spiritual magic. Miracles and magic are pretty obvious to musicians. We all talk about these experiences because we live it and are amazed and humbled by it repeatedly.

Love your humor. I grew up in Florida. My in laws grew up in Oldtown FL. All old folks went to revivals and still messed with voodoo. We know haint, bottle tree, heard some scary things. But why was Hank Sr., mad at him, maybe because he wore the boots and didn't respect final resting place.

I thought everyone got to play in the funeral home and cemetery. Only during "quiet time " was we not allowed to run around.

I think we do our best work when we feel authentic and calm, and that creates a joy that others (like your viewers) can share in, too. You should also be able to do whatever your weird li'l heart desires on a platform that requires you to provide free content to folks. Thank you for doing that for us!

Mudvayne’s LD50 was the first album I ever bought with my own money. I was ten the year that came out. My parents were horrified. MTV2 ruined their little girl, as far as they were concerned. 😅

Hi! Just discovered your channel this evening, (quite by accident). Absolutely loved the Waylon/Hank 'haunt story'! Well done! Though I now live in arguably America's most haunted city, (St. Augustine, Florida), I grew up in Hendersonville/Flat Rock, NC, so I love a good 'haint story'; especially when delivered with an Appalachian lingo and accent! To spite growing up in the Hendersonville/Flat Rock area, LOL, I am a promotions specialist and journalist in the music industry, so I also loved 'the music industry spin of it' as well! You have a great channel, very well done! Interesting, funny, charming, and definitely Appalachian! ...All good stuff! Loved the stories about your Granny as well! Can't wait to watch the rest of your videos! Nice to e-meet you! Please keep up the good work!

Hank Williams Sr. spirit is accessible. I did a study of him and did one of his songs on stage, he came along. It was great, I try to be super respectful to those kinds of vibes which makes it easier to notice. It's awesome stuff and Hank Williams was an awesome person, no doubt.

Well my friend I really enjoyed this. I enjoy your storytelling style.... Style, not sure it's style it's like two friends sitting on the porch talking, call it what you want. Oh.... Hello neighbor! If you're near the Chattahoochee you have to be in my neck of the woods. I'm going to guess and say you're a little north of me, I'm in Canton. Anyway love your stuff keep it comin

At my first job in Douglasville, Ga my uncle owned a collegiate sports store in a mall. We each got large Chic-fil-a tea every morning we went in as they give free refills all day. Guess I wasn’t paying attention but that wasn’t my tea….nor was it tea… it’s bad. Like a tobacco flavored spit jambalaya. Also here in Savannah there are plenty of those painted roofs. Well used to be until SCAD bought up everything.

Remember , The day music died. 1972 single “American Pie,” an epic, eight-minute music-history lesson that begins with a reference to the plane crash that killed musicians Buddy Holly, J.P. Richardson (a.k.a. the Big Bopper) and Ritchie Valens, along with the pilot of the 1947 Beechcraft Bonanza . At the time, Holly and his band, consisting of Waylon Jennings, Tommy Allsup, and Carl Bunch, were playing on the "Winter Dance Party" tour across the Midwest. Holly chose to charter a plane to reach their next venue in Moorhead, Minnesota. Richardson, suffering from flu, swapped places with Waylon Jennings, taking his seat on the plane, while Allsup lost his seat to Valens on a coin toss. Soon after takeoff, late at night and in poor, wintry weather conditions, the pilot lost control of the light aircraft, a Beechcraft Bonanza, which crashed into a cornfield, killing all four on board. ( Death Trails lightly behind on those who have a pass ........ )
