@drtyjmmancavemusic420 it was called Superjoint Ritual. I saw them play with Morbid Angel and DevilDriver in a small club in 2003 a year before suoerjoint broke up. Hank 3 sat on a stool and shredded the whole time, it was awesome. Phil kinda made an ass of himself between songs pounding his chest with the mic calling himself the god of heavy metal..(Dio was still alive and is STILL the God, read his name mf..!) whatcha gonna do though he always had an ego lol. It was still a really badass show!!

When I was about 17, my dad took me to a Robert Earl Keen show. Shooter Jennings opened, Hank 3 middled, and Keen closed it out. Before and after their respective sets, the entirety of the lineup mingled with the crowd, bought people drinks, lit up doinks and passed them around. To this day, best concert I’ve ever been to hands down. I got to meet the triple crown of outlaw country royalty because my dad didn’t have the communication skills to tell me he was sorry for being such a dick growing up. Fair trade, old man.

Saw him 3 different times in Jacksonville Beach Florida at what was at the time The Free Bird Cafe. Ronnie Van Zant' widow Opened up. Great venue for Live music. Anyhow, 3 unbelievable shows every time. The last show he came off stage & came straight to me, my girlfriend & her cousin. Said we were rocking out harder than anyone else in the crowd & had to come holler. He bought us drinks and I bought him some in return. I commented on his drummer reminding me so much of Animal from the Muppets with the wild hair and badass drumming. He thanked me and said damn Man you're right & then calling his drummer over & I told em I had some badass Bud & some Killer Moonshine which I did & then we retired to his tourbus and proceeded TO GET LIVE!!!! Literally one of the absolute hands down best nights of my entire life!!! It was just amazing. We talked music, guitars and amps, fiddles and just had a really great time. Stayed with him about 3 whole hours and he was genuinely unhappy when we had to go & he had to get on the road. I'll never forget that he insisted on us calling him Shelton and we introduced ourselves to him once inside the club when he first came to us and started talking to us and he called us by name the entire time on the tourbus and never once asked what was y'all's names again or anything like that. He was just a genuinely nice really really great dude. I made it a point to let him know that I had met Kid Rock a couple of times because of my friendship with Gary Rossington of Lynyrd Skynyrd and he said F#@k Kid Rock!!! Man that was a great great night.

I met him and hung out with him for 10 hours at a cheap motel in Knoxville Tennessee as he was touring with Superjoint Ritual which was Phil Anselmo's (of Pantera) band. He was extremely down to earth. I asked him why he chose the underground scene over the "mainstream" legacy his father and grandfather left. He said,..."Because im a fan of ugly and brutal honesty." He also said he never has to worry about money but refuses to touch his family's money. Which i took as "i make my own way from A to Z. I will say this though. He did have a significant drug issue when i met him. He was very transparent about it. Sheldon has a golden heart. Extremely kind and giving. I really hope he is doing well. Love you brother.

I've seen H3 live i don't even know, probably 5-6 times and he lives what he writes about, the most genuine show and personable Artist I think I've seen. He plays like 4 hours and absolutely dishes it out, finishes the show, sits on the end of the stage and shakes every hand, drinks every shot (I mean a line of people forms that lasts for a long time, I don't know how he walked back to his bus) and is pretty much an open book, who absolutely earns every red cent of that ticket price. He never disappoints and I'm grateful to have caught the Straight to Hell era live like 3 times. Hell of an Artist, hell of a down to earth person as well. If you get a chance to see him, fukn do it, trust me.

This was my life for 10+ years. Meet some of the greatest people via shows. It’s like by having the same taste in music gave you an automatic pass to party with the best. Would love a comeback. We need a Hank3 resurrection

Holy shit!! That is the greatest thing Ive ever saw!! I now remember someone telling me about this guy a few years back. That was the same guy that told me about some of the Country rap and rock stuff that I have now enjoyed for many years. I never checked this guy out. I have a 4 hour drive to make this morning, I know what I will be listening to now. This sounds amazing!! How have I never listened to this guys music??

Little known fact; Wayne "the train" Hancock taught Shelton A LOT about music, touring, and road living. I've hung out with both. Hell, Wayne's been to my house after a show for a zine interview and he's a helluva nice guy.

Hank 3 rules. Ill forever love the man for gracing us with his work on the first Superjoint Ritual album. Its soo sad he never did any tours or played on the 2ns album after the 1st. When I saw them live it was next fucking level and a moment in time that probably wont be captured again. ie Phils heroin arc, and everyone just drowning in fusion hardcore and drugs. It was so influential to me I ever started using at one point and ruined 10 years of my life, but despite the bad times in jail and everything. Ill always remember it fondly.

@@nwerd7584I've been on methadone for 25yrs. Was at 245mgs at one point, now at 50mgs. And slowly weening down, been on it so long cause the first 6-7yrs i was on it. I was still shooting gram shots of H multiple times a day. Haven't touched H in 19yrs now though.

Hank 3 was truly one of a kind. Glad to see him as many times as I did. The mosh pits at his shows were just scary, made the metal shows I was seeing at the time look utterly tame. Who's to say if III will ever tour again but you have IV out there doing his own take on that Williams style of country. Really enjoyed this video, drummed up some wild memories.

Inside stage at Stubb's, Austin, Texas circa 2001... Misfits minus Glen Danzig were playing across town. He does a great country set and then says that ain't the misfits! Rips through 30 minutes of misfits covers to end it. I'll never forget.

Good accurate rockumentary. I've been to a few Hank II shows around 2012-2014, and it's true, I watched him play 4 hours straight, as the centre piece for three different bands. As soon as the last song was over, all the musicians walked off the stage, while Hank walked up to the edge, sat down, and motioned for everyone to come up and get an autograph and a pic. I've been saying it for over a decade now; Hardest working man in the music industry. Hands down.
