This is the ceiling under which everything else in the world of music takes place, atleast for me.

I can't believe how many people are watching this in public. That's pretty cool for some relatively "out there" jamszzzz.

Wayne is also one of our best composers. In this group, Danilo Perez is the unsung hero. He adds the energy with his comping and his vocalizations.

Wayne Shorter is by far one of the best jazz guys post Miles. He's got a similar adventurous spirit.

As a matter of fact, this wasn't 2003, but 2001, in Vienne, France. Wayne also played there in 2003 but it was with the 4tet + a symphonic orchestra. -> bteniswood : this is a french TV program called "Jazz 6". Unfortunately, it doesn't exist anymore. Great music !

In a time when most music asks nothing of us and gives even less, this reaffirms my conviction thats its good to be on the planet while this man is making music.

I've heard about four different versions of this piece, including the original Miles Davis Quintet version, and this is my favorite. I think it's Wayne's robust sound on the initial intro tag, and the arrangement in general. Amazing how he can rearrange these great pieces into what seems to be an endless array of great music...great composing will do that! ...there will never be another Wayne.

Phenomenal. Very few can touch Wayne on the Tenor.

Man, the first year he toured with that new Danillo, Patitucci, Blades band. For me he never matched it again--not after that first year or two. But it was probably the best band I've ever seen. Best jazz band at least. That shit...had me thinking. As great as the most classic jazz stuff in my mind. Right there.

Why can't people just chill out and enjoy the music? How many of you arm chair critics have accomplished "musically" what Mr. Wayne Shorter has accomplished during his time on this earth making music? How many of you?!? Yeah. I thought so. The word "NONE" comes to mind.

What is this from? Is this a single video clip or is it from an actual recorded concert of his? I'd love to get my hands on the whole thing. Actually, I've been looking for a Shorter concert on dvd or whatever with his new band ie. this one. Does anyone know if one exists? Cheers and love it!

Just think of how many songs Wayne wrote. The man was a beast, I mean he replaced Trane when he left miles. Nuff said.

whats that thing he does at 4:55? is that like a double tonguing thing where you flap your tongue up and down?

I don't agree with earlier comments that Wayne plays too little and hasn't developed. For the past 30 years he's done tunes where he just plays a little, focusing more on the compositions and the energy of the band. This is not laziness or lack of development. People diss Alegria from 2002 for some reason but the arrangements are novel and his solos are INTENSE, e.g. Orbits. Also, he improvises on motifs, twisting and playing with them, so he's very spontaneous, not a lick-player
