That's quite how the bottle works, unscrew the cap from the little container just a tad bit. Then squeeze the bottle. Now you don't have to wait and do the ridiculous tipping and waiting. Give it a try.

Good information. I haven't been using any stabilizers in mine, but I run the carb dry at the end of the season. My general rule of thumb is not to use gas any older than 6 months without stabilizer and I've been seeing a lot of videos where they think the stabilizer doesn't do anything. Knock on wood, I've had no issues for many years. :D

I use Stabil 360 Marine in all my four stroke engines. Lawn mower, edger, pressure washer, push mower, snow blower, Yamaha 2.5 hp outboard- anything four stroke. In my two stroke Stihl engines I only use Stihl Moto Mix. I have never drained a carburetor and have stored fuel in this equipment and the gas can mixed with Stabil 360 Marine for over 8 months. After a long PA winter two pulls is all it takes to start anything. Only buy the blue "Marine" Stabil, the pink is not designed to deal with Ethanol. In the Yamaha 2.5 hp four stroke outboard, the jets are so tiny in the carb due to EPA requirements a fuel stabilizer that is designed to deal with ethanol is a must for storage.

Right on. I used ethanol gas treated with Sta-bil in my small engines for years, before I learned that non ethanol gas was available in my area. I never had a problem with phase separation or carburetor corrosion. In that time I heard countless stories of ethanol related problems. Because of EPA mandates in past years, modern gas just doesn't last as long as it use to. Stabilizer will extend its life and prevent many problems.

Use Marine Sta-Bil or Marine Seafoam all the time. Although I've gotten lazy & just dump the entire bottle in. Zero issues. Good buddy of mine had a new 4stroke snowblower that wasn't used for a season. Went to fire it up - fuel leaking everywhere. The small fuel lines had all turned to mush. Small engine repair shop said 100% ethanol issue - sees it all the time.

I believe in Marine Stabil! Because of surgery, I left my boat with 85 gals of E10, a full tank, since summer of 2020. A month ago I drained all the gas into 5 gal cans and ran it in my F250. It cranked and ran fine but the gas mileage was down about 15% from average. Two years in i added a second bottle. If it wasnt for the stabil marine I have no doubt that E10 gas would be bad! Now i'm refilling with Non-ethanol. I still had to clean the anti-siphon valves, fuel hoses and generator carb, but it could have been WAY WORSE!

I believe ethanol weakens and hardens rubber seals, and that alcohol in general absorbs moisture from the air from the exhaust port and will rust up the crankshaft bearings. Good to plug the pipes up.

So we just got our new boat an 88 ranger 393v and we have loved it! It's a 2 stroke V6. I had it down to a science where I could get it to fire on the first or second key turn. However the last two days I went out. The start sounded different like it start to turn and then turned off before firing a very short crank. I continued to prime it and choke it and about to 6/8th try it turned over and ran like a champ. Two variables that have changed. Here in Florida, the weather has got a lot hotter and now it's raining more than last week. I have been using non ethanol gas w no problems. I'm starting to wonder if its the ethanol or something else. If it's hotter in the morning so maybe I'm over choking it. For me, it has always been 3-4 pumps of the key press (choke) then the hot foot 2/3 down and boom! Any advice would be great!

I put new fuel lines on my outboard. Within 6 months the fuel with ethanol had caused the insides to fall apart and clog. I cost me a ton of money getting it serviced to find the problem. They replaced many unnecessary parts. Finally they determined the crap ethanol gas had eaten the insides of the lines.

How do you get all of the fuel out of your outboard? Are you disconnecting your fuel line and running the outboard until it runs out of fuel?
@WayneTheBoatGuy
@WayneTheBoatGuy 2 жыл бұрын
Before winter - yes. I actually disconnect the fuel line and spay fogging oil in the carbs until the engine quits. So any "fuel" left in the carbs is mostly fogging oil.

Hey Wayne..Really like your videos...I'm a new small boat owner (3.5 merc w/ an internal tank). For seasonal storage in addition to draining the carb, would you leave gas in the internal tank (with StaBil) or should you drain the internal tank as well?
@WayneTheBoatGuy
@WayneTheBoatGuy Жыл бұрын
I've left gas in mine in the past - but I also run the carb dry. If the gas you're using is ethanol free to begin with, it should be okay. I've been having trouble with my 2.5 Merc this season and I think some of it is fuel related.

Yeah I've been curious about the "revised" instructions over the last 10(?) or 15 years for much of the Stabil products line. "Storage" (Red) was/is basically the Original product... and had instructions on double dosing for up to 2 year Fuel Stabilizing AND use as a Fuel System Cleaner (at Maintenance or Preventative doses). Seems like Stabil 360 is now their "Every day" focused product... While I hopefully rarely "need" Marine Stabil for much of my 2 and 4 cycle engines I often use it anyway thinking it may offer more Moisture and Rust Inhibitors then "Storage" offers. Recently saw several videos comparing various additives used for like a 5-6 month (Winterized Equipment put away and not used/started til "Spring") storage and previous videos that covered an almost 2 year test with monthly startups to confirm when/if a particular additive/engine would fail from the fuel eventually plugging the Carb and showing what that looked like... In those tests they used Stabil 360 Protection instead of Storage or Maine, likely because they wanted to test the various Ethanol breakdown claims... In both tests 360 did well. In the "Winterized" test its Carb was still clean. Unlike some of the other additives which showed visual signs of fuel breakdown. In the long-term test it took 2nd place to an engineered Non-Ethanol fuel (VP Fuel 4 Cycle)... But did show breakdown at like 18-19 months. So somewhere between 6-18 months it (360) wasn't able to stabilize the fuel but it still outlasted the other additives by keeping the fuel "useable". Would really have liked to see if/how Storage and Marine would have done better... I'd think they both would have

According to Dan McTeague, a noted petroleum analyst, Shell and Esso 91 are both ethanol free. All other grades from the companies have some ethanol content, but the mid-grade blend is pure gas, which means it not only corrodes less than ethanol blends, but is less likely to deteriorate when stored.
@WayneTheBoatGuy
@WayneTheBoatGuy 3 жыл бұрын
Since you mentioned Esso, I assume you're talking about non-US fuel. I have always assumed that here in the US all of our fuel brands & grades have ethanol in them, and I know our fuels vary state to state as well - but this is potentially a really good tip!
