I was pretty nervous recording this one because I really was curious to see if I could pass on my first try.

Nah, no need to be nervous. If you fail, the video would’ve gotten more views. 👍🏻

Never underestimate those older guys of the Coastguard, many have years of experience and will put you right. You don't need online courses just get in touch with him if you have any questions. Nice family boat.

Good job. I'm exempt form the boating course but took it anyways. I took an online course through BoaterED and learned far more than I thought I would. Just brushing up on the navigational rules which I thought I had down pretty well was helpful. There is also quite a bit of boater safety info that some may think is common sense but probably isn't. Ultimately there is no excuse for time on the water and knowing your boat.

As a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, I am so happy you made this and are able to show people there is no downside to a Vessel Safety Check (VSC). This check can prevent you from sustaining injury or death in an emergency. Sometimes people only recognize things in $$$. So I add, if you are stopped by the USCG, DNR, or other law enforcement, not having something that would be been able to been noticed during a VSC, may save you a lot of money in fines. Doing this also helps from getting stopped while out on the water. If the coast guard or dirt sees u out & u have the sticker, a lot if times u won't get stopped for random safety checks

@@WayneTheBoatGuy , Very much so, I am like you where I’ve been grandfathered (old fart) in, and been riding a Jetskis, and a few times on the boat without a cert, but really I was actually amazed at how much I really didn’t know such as knowing right of way & types of buoys. But yes it’s very well done with quizzes. Great videos and interactive scenarios. Well worth it. www.boat-ed.com

@@WayneTheBoatGuy I'm a USCG Auxiliary Boating Safety instructor. While I took mine online 15 years ago when I was 15, there is so much more you learn from doing the in-person one.

Is the coastguard check the same nationwide or different per state?
@WayneTheBoatGuy3 жыл бұрын
I think it's tweaked by each state to include any additional state requirements.
@robinstewart65102 жыл бұрын
As Wayne said, the federal Coast Guard regulations (safety equipment, etc) are nationwide, with some states adding additional requirements onto that (check your state rules). With the latter, the Coast Guard will check that you meet those requirements as well. These free on-shore or in-dock examinations are complimentary. However, if you're caught on the water violating the regulations, fines and similar will more than likely be imposed. - Branch Chief, Public Affairs Dept, Member Training (BC-ATM), USCGA

I live in New Jersey and I bought a boat from out of state. It’s registered with the unit with the United States Coast Guard should I keep it registered with the United States Coast Guard or go to New Jersey to division of motor vehicle
@WayneTheBoatGuy9 ай бұрын
I think you have to register it in your state and the CG registration is separate.

Inspection FAIL on the fire extinguisher by the vessel examiner. You are NOT just checking pressure gauge. Many non commercial fire extinguishers have an expiration date - he did not even look and actually stated he was only looking for charge.
@barbarathawley6298 Жыл бұрын
This VE was done in 2022. Only recently was arequirement added that extinguisher can be no older than 12 years old if there is a date (on the bottom). Still has to have gague in green.. They generally do not have expiration dates.
@Roger-gm9tl Жыл бұрын
Nor did he look at fuel hoses, fittings as best as can be seen, besides flame arrestor on carb, another thing, battery connections, cables as can be seen, frayed, lose corroded, routed, which can cause no start, fires !
