I've had mine with the grey handle for over a month now. Love it. I thought it felt a little cheap when I first got it, never had a knife with plastic a handle. It is definitely not a cheap knife. The handles are light but super strong. Would 100% recommend this knife. Great review video. Thank you

I’ve wanted this knife for around 5 years and saw a fantastic sale on it earlier this week and bought it and came home from work to it delivered and I have flipped, flicked, slow rolled, etc, it’s fantastic! I have the coyote tan version. This is my fourth hogue knife but my first Sig Sauer and there is literally no quality difference between brands. You can tell so clearly Hogue put as much love into the Sig brand as they do into the Hogue branded knives. They have the best crossbar lock in the game and very few companies can rival their edges out of the box.

I carry knives tip down when available, and it's generally for two reasons. On one hand, sometimes the deepest carry clip position is tip down (see Spyderco Police 4 LW). The other reason is a feeling of safety. If I have a bit of a loose pivot and I have the knife in my pocket, sometimes the motion is enough to jostle the blade loose a little. If the knife is tip up and I reach for it while its slightly opened, I can meet the blade. Tip down, not only is gravity somewhat aiding the knife staying closed, but if it does open slightly I'm not reaching towards blade or point.

I carry tip down because I feel like tip up gives me a low grip when I draw, tip up allows me to pinch with to fingers and pull. My hand falls right in place so I'm happy to see this has both options

Nice review! I ordered one of these back in May and still waiting. Looking forward to getting it though. The grips on this knife I believe are made of the same polymer material as the Sig P320 pistols, and most other polymer pistols. Having carried polymer pistols for almost 30 years I have no qualms about the grips on this knife.

Tip down is good for carrying on Molle, typically on a vest/backpack. Secure and gives you great access.

I'm loving the FRN handles on mine, the stippling is excellent and feels just like my Sig P365X. As someone that's sharpened for over 20 years and professionally doing hand sharpening for over 5 Years now I really appreciate houges factory edges. They aren't burnt so when I'm sent knives to sharpen I don't have to worry about how much steel i have to remove to get in to good steel, the bevels are consistently consistent across all their knives. And s30v Is fantastic

I love their knives. I had one and sold mine. Dumb. I bought another. I prefer this over a Griptilian any day. The polymer handle doesnt have that cheap feel to me. I just got in the tanto and I dig it. Hogue does a great job. Normally I wont buy any knife with a firearm manufacturers name it because they are usually trash. Not Sig or HK made by Hogue. Its a great blade. Absolutely love it. I did the forward finger choil too. And yes despite being a plastic handle its solid. Very underrated knife in my opinion. great review!

Nice review...I have the same one with stonewashed drop point. Very comfortable, smooth action, able-lock is great, and this is an excellent hard-use folder. I found the edges of the handles were a little sharp and noticeable in using the knife for hard cuts, so I lightly sanded them down and all is good. Other than that issue, this is good value for this knife...and it is a Hogue.

Not only are these a great intermediary step up in quality, the Hogue produced H&K and SIG knives are great for crossover into the firearm & 2A community. For too long, anything with a firearm company name on it was generally crap. Even Beretta went downhill and they actually made decent folders in the late 90's to early 2000's.

In this particular case, I think the idea with the handle scales is to mimic the pistol grip. Hogue knows how to do "plastic" right. I am in the pro-FRN/FRCP camp so I really love this folder. It's probably going to be the next replacement to enter my rotation when I retire my 154cm griptilian. As far as tip down carry, I believe it's always for safety reasons on flippers or knives with weak detents. The Gerber ez out in s30v (made in the USA for 38 bucks) is tip down but it has a heavier blade and flicks open easily. I've never had an issue switching between carry styles on my right pocket. Left handed I prefer tip up.

Like the design. Finger choil, slicey blade grind, and axis lock. I enjoy that the handles are very reminiscent of Sig Sauer design. Not a bad price either. Agree with you on the pocket clip screw holes. Black them out at least. I need to buy a hogue I haven’t yet.

Tip down makes sense in back pocket to me, the way you grab it makes it "easier" to deploy without repositioning your hand. I don't carry back pocket often, so none of mine are set up like that. I have tried it before and it feels better.

Thanks Wayne, for this excellent video/review of this Hogue Nitron EDC! I'm on the fence between this one and the Hogue Exemplar. I love the blade shape and thumb studs of the Exemplar, but also love the "ridged" pocket clip on the Nitron, but a bit concerned about the deployment "hole".

I have this knife in the tanto and coyote coloring. I cannot thumb flick it without considerable wrist action. I have applied lube and the able lock does work flawlessly but I cannot get the same thumb hole to work for me 🤷🏼‍♂️ While not mentioned in the review but these knives are a companion to the Sig P320/M17 pistols. The polymer handle and stippling are the same as on those pistols.

Hogue uses Wulf springs Not Omega. Wulf are a superior formulation often used in firearms. I too have heard numerous complaints of broken Omega springs.

Hogue is so underrated IMO. I think the reason they have a better axis style lock is because of those Wolf springs too. It’s like Ganzo in that they are way thicker and more durable.

HOGUE SIG K420. Looks like the baby of Syderco and Benchmade. :) As if HOGUE took the best from both and made tweaks to make this knife their own. Their SIG line. ANd offering it at a much more resonable price...which (for me) is why I'd let what little play there is in the handle slide. Metal liners. So IMPORTANT in a good knife IMHO. ANd in the case of the K320 (and probably all HOGUE SIG knvies) they have something like what Benchmade has done...putting in a 'metal spine liner" which you can't see ...adding a little strength yet still allowing for play...flex..as you mentioned. If only they put a FULL metal liner that sits under the entire scale shape...might completely take out the flex. For the money...this knife and the others in the SIG line is tough to beat. Want slgihtly better quality? Buy a Spyderco e.g. SHaman (PM2, Manix 2, Para 3....).

You can say that it's just plastic, but not all plastic is created equally, and this one happens to have some really amazing properties. Pez dispensers are made of plastic, and this is not that.

Hogue’s coating is good, but I think over time almost all coatings start to wear away a little. It takes a while and some pretty hard use though.

Certainly interesting. I like Hogue but have always shied away from two things. One; knives with gun manufacturers names on them. Two; plastic handles. I am interested and if I can ever get my hanks on one I will check it out. For now it goes on the back burner.

Yea you’re correct. Maybe I should have clearified. It’s strength is closer to fiberglass then an typical plastic. Not in terms of how it’s made. Some sight claim this to be polycarbonate. Which is also one of the strongest plastics out there used in glocks and many other firearms. But regardless. These materials are extremely strong. Watch videos showcasing them

I had trouble getting my meaty fingers in the hole to flip it so I put a Kwik stud on it. Now it waves coming out of my pocket. Lol. I'm thinking of drilling a hole for a smaller stud now. Don't get me wrong the wave is very cool but not what I was looking for when I put a Kwik stud on it. The edge on mine was the sharpest I've ever seen from a factory. It's insane.

The Deka also has a more premium blade steel 👍🏻 If I were you, I’d also consider the Doug Ritter RSK MK1-G2. Great bang for the buck and also manufactured by Hogue.

I have only briefly handled the Deka once. That’s a tough one, but I would probably go with the K320. Ergos are just amazing. I also don’t do much mind the difference in blade steel when comparing S30V to 20CV. If it was something like D2 or 154CM, that may be a different story, I for the price and overall package, K320 is the winner in my eyes.

Compelling knife. A bit on the taticool side for me, could get new scales made for it though. As far as tip up or down, it depends on the size of the knife for me. Tip up on a larger knife some times makes it so you have to scooch your hand up on it after pulling it out.

Love Elishewitz work. Hogue is hit and miss. This one is compelling. Seems priced well. I do carry tip down. Had a bad accident while reaching into my pocket while carrying tip up. Ever since then, I have learned to simply enjoy manipulating the blade open from tip down. I will still carry tip up, but only with the blade toward the rear edge of my pocket, and mostly with a wave feature. NEVER with auto or assisted opening. Those go in a belt sheath.

You have to scoot your hand down the handle of the knife... Two or more times if the handle is longer. Whereas with tip-down, it is a simple rotational movement, and your hand is right at the deployment mechanism.

I truly couldn't care less tip up or tip down. I feel that is such a pointless debate. I have many folders in both configurations. I put them in my pocket and I couldn't tell you what configuration they are without looking at it but that's because I don't care. When I need it, I pull out and flip it open. It's simply a natural movement. I don't have to stop and think about how I'm opening my folder. It's muscle memory and my hand automatically positions and opens knife. It's like driving a manual transmission. You never remember evening shifting the entire drive to work or wherever. I just don't understand the concern with clip placement.

Well… my k320 has the worst able/axis lock. My Benchmade bugout and Griptilian is way way better. This crap. I’m not sure what everyone is smoking… I even disassembled it, used kpl, did the right tension to do not have blade play, still centered, action is still crap compared to my 2 Benchmade’s

Terrible knife guys. Just bought the collector series based on this video recommendation and holy 1990s knife action. No detent at all. The able lock is good but that's the only reliable opening method. Spidey flicking is trash and you have to still throw the blade to get it to deploy. It seems very outdated. Just my opinion of course.

Either call customer service and they’ll tell you or read the press release they both say flat out that this knife was designed by Jim Bruhn!!!
