Nice job, Most people have no idea about being blinded by the arc or being electrocuted. When I see a welder on a job most do not warn other tradesman not to be in the area or look at the arc. Worst is when a welder is outside doing a railing or something and the home owner gets in the area. A welding arc just automatically attracts onlookers. Thanks Ray

Yeah even as a welder you can get kinda relaxed about the safety and learn pretty quick about welder's flash or a fire. I still remember the first minor welding flash from the 90's when I was welding behind another welder and I was getting his arc inside my helmet! Thanks for the watch!

Thanks for your video. What happens if you grounding clamp - which in the beginning of the weld seems to have good contact - suddenly loses good contact in the middle of a weld - will you then receive a shock if you are leaning on the welding table or item being welded? Additionally, is there a way to know the grounding clamp is "initially making good contact" (using an indicator or something), instead of just hoping for the best?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 жыл бұрын
If you have all your personal protective equipment on you will be ok, as long as you don't become part of the circuit. With all your gear on, there is too much resistance for it to travel through your gear, through the air/dry ground to where the ground clamp is. All that happens is the wire feeds out but no spark/no welding happens. Now if you have no PPE you are taking a risk and if you are welding in very wet conditions or you are wet, you are now making it possible for electric shock. Not really a way to 100% know if you have a good ground, just start welding and if it works, it's good. If the wire feed but no spark, then you don't have a good ground. Check if the clamp is on the table/your material and it is not on paint or anything that would give a bad electrical connection. Thanks for the watch!
@ZeceFackler
@ZeceFackler 2 жыл бұрын
I am a noob to welding but do electronic work and was thinking same thing about making sure its grounded well so going back to my electronic experience I would take a multimeter with a continuity tester and check between the clamp and around where I am welding to see good connectivity. It would be a bit over kill but to make a noob more comfortable is something figure I would not need that once I am more confident.

I am just learning, but was just thinking about why would they not have some kind of camera system that is seeing for you, and you are only looking into a camera screen on the inside of the helmet so you can see clearly of what you're doing? What about ventilation and P100 masks?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
At 16:00 there is a talk about welding ventilation and respirators. If you have an extraction system like ours, masks are not needed. If you don't have the extraction system then you need a well ventilated area and respirators/masks with particulate filters. The mask/filters need to fill comfortable under your welding helmet as well. Thanks for the watch!

Is it safe to weld on a wooden table?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 жыл бұрын
Depends, yes, and no. If you have your ground clamp on your metal piece that you are welding, it will weld. The wood will not be untouched though, welding will damage the wood table and most likely start it on fire. I have used wood for making cheap/easy/quick welding jigs for projects like go kart frames and custom table designs that repeat though. They will last enough for tacking and then removing the piece for final welding. I personally wouldn't weld on a wooden table though. Thanks for the watch!

@CamoCollie 2 жыл бұрын
@@wayofthewrench what about having the piece in a good cast iron vise on the bench?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 жыл бұрын
Still kinda the same, there is potential for a fire on the wooden table. Otherwise, if you clamp the ground clamp on the vice, it will weld. Just still the safety issue with the area around the welding process (roughly 15-20 feet radius). If this is in a home garage, I would think twice before you burn down your house. I'm sure it happens all of the time all around the world but it wouldn't be safe for me to suggest that these situations are completely safe for welding. Stay safe!

So, at the moment that the battery on my mask runs out of charge, I will ruin my eyes. Is that right?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
You can press the test button before you start to check the battery and if you do that you'll be golden. If your eyes ever do get flashed, its not instant vision loss. You get something called welder flash which irritates your eyes and it feels like sand is in your eye or like you rubbed them aggressively for too long. Repeated flashes is not good. Just check your battery every day you go to use the helmet. If it doesn't switch, change the battery. Cheers!
