Waypoint Flight Feature on the New DJI Air 3 & How it works!

This is the third feature that I've tested on my new DJI Air 3. The first was the Smart RTH then the Precision Landing and now Waypoints. My next feature to test out or check is the Cruise Control, so stay tuned for that. Every one of these features has gotten me closer to scoring this drone with a 10. After my first flight or maiden flight I was thinking this drone wasn't as impressive as the Air 2 was when it was released. But it is starting to turn the other way and I am really starting to like this drone.

Hi David, I purchased a DJI mini pro 4 drone a few weeks ago. And was very frustrated with using the waypoint features, until I watched your video. Let me tell you your is outstanding!! I must have watched at least 10 other KZbin sites explaining how to customize the waypoint system, and none of them matched your explanation. It took me all of about 10 minutes after watching you video to get my waypoints working properly. I don’t think I would have ever thought to set the POI to 6 to 10 feet AGL. It worked perfectly. So, many thanks to you Dave. 😀😀😀 I am now a happy camper.

Enjoyed your vid. I've had this capability on a Mini 2 through Litchi for some time now. But, I will not Denigrate either except to say It would be nice if this was able to be Pre-Planned on computer in the office before going into the field. I was Not going to invest in the Air 3 but the Mini 4 Pro found it's way into my drone barn. It really is the Mini Air 3.

I thought we would be able to plan a mission without being connected to the drone. But looks like we can't. I had to have it connected and keep it on as o planned a mission on the app

I don't know why you have to have the drone connected? I just set a waypoint on my RC2 controller and save it without having my drone connected. Are you using the RC2 controller or the RCN-2 controller? That maybe the difference but I am just guessing on that one.

cool video .. is it possible for drone to fly waypoint on straight distance let say from wp 1 to wp 2 for 2 km and return to home ?

It is possible but, here in the US we have to keep the drone in visual line of sight. I wouldn't be able to fly the drone that far because of this rule. The Drone is capable of flying 2 km or about 1.25 miles and I would guess, have no problem flying a waypoint like that. Thanks for comment, Dave

So how do I set up a waypoint off the coastline that has a buoy and know its GPS coordinates?

I don't know of any way of putting in GPS coordinates to fly a waypoint mission in the DJI fly app. I guess if you know where the buoy is you can pin it on the map and try to do it that way. Just a thought 🤔. I know there are third-party apps out there that use GPS coordinates for mapping but I don't know if that would work for you or not. That is something you could check out I guess. On the mavic 2 pro and zoom. You could choose between straight lines between weypoints or an arc to smooth the turns out between the weypoints. Is that no longer the choose/option?

I guess I honestly don't know I never had a mavic 2 Pro. But the next time I'm out with my air 3 I'll certainly check into that thanks for the heads up. Dave

@dk4drones88 I just found out from DJI. No they took the option off the Air 3 and the newer Mavics. The drone its self now naturally curvs on the direction change.

No, that feature is not available on the Air 3 or the Mini 4 Pro. It was a feature on some of the older DJI drones like the Mavic 2 Pro and I would guess the new Mavic Pro drones as well. Thanks for the comment and be safe.

Just noticed there is no C button if you go for the standard controller. So how do you set a weypoint on the fly?

You would have to tap the plus in the box on the screen. Try that I think that should work or you use the map while you're flying and tap on the map to set that Waypoint. Take a look at my hyperlapse Waypoint feature and in there I show how to tap on the plus box to set a waypoint for a hyperlapse. I think that will work for your Waypoints flight as well

@dk4drones88 I looked at that earlier. I believe Fn is only tilt camera and the light. Il check again. If they made that a weypoint option it would be more useful so you can look at where your flying and hit the Fn button rather than have to check the screen

@@dk4drones Follow Course has two options: Manual and Custom. You show what Custom do with the Air 3. But what happens with the Manual setting?

@@S-teamwork You can manually adjust the follow course headings(yaw) while you are flying the waypoints. You can also do this with gimbal tilt and manual zoom. The camera action and altitude are set by each waypoint, and speed is set in the global setting for the whole flight. Hope this helps, thanks for the comment, Dave
