The best and most complete explanation of the "bird" for the A320 and believe me I have searched a lot of relative videos, some come close but you have hit it spot on! If you find the time, please give us an example of how you land the A320 using the TRK/FPA mode especially with a light/moderate cross wind. Thank you for the time and effort you put in making those videos.

We don't usually use the TRK/FPA for landing, we use it when we need to do non-precision approaches, but I guess I can do a video where we explain how to use the TRK/FPA coupled with the FDs to land 😁

Good. But what’s the advantage of The Bird over following the standard flight director? What situations call for The Bird over the usual hdg and vs? This is where I’m confused.
@waypointsaviation4 ай бұрын
In principal, the yellow square in the middle of the PFD is your pitch. The bird represents the aircraft trajectory,. Example during the stall ur pitch could be pointing up ( above the horizon , nevertheless your trajectory ( the bird ) will be below the horizon, means you are descending. U need the bird for " situational awareness " Back to your question, flying manual , lose of FDs, visually circut , the bird would be extremely useful.

Have not been thru all your videos, yet, but wondering how you use the TRK/FPA to land the aircraft without autopilot, lets say for an ILS

We use it to help with a raw data ILS approach where we don’t have the flight directors to assist us This video should help Airbus A320 Tutorial | Unlocking Precision Flying with Flight Directors and TRK/FPA kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3y3YaeCn9WJfNk Also this kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIrHpoKEetmUrtE

One question: Why would you use Track instead of heading, and what's the difference?
@waypointsaviation Жыл бұрын
Heading is referring to the direction the aircraft is pointed at, whereas track is referring to the actual direction of the aircraft traveling across the ground. In layman's terms when flying using heading you'd need to factor in the wind direction and speed to stay accurate on the direction you need to be going, using TRK helps with all that as it already factors in wind direction and speed and shows you where to point to get to where you're going. Hope this helps...

Just wondering , in the world of MSFS simulation, how can this FPA be used to assist in flaring the aircraft properly. I do not know if it is me or not, but don't ever seem to get a good picture of the pitch in landing? Maybe you have this embedded in one of your videos?
@waypointsaviation Жыл бұрын
Hey, We don't use the FPA to flare the A/C, We use it when flying to help understand the actual trajectory and attitude of the A/C when flying in Non-Precision. To flare the A/C at 50ft just flare to 5 degrees and hold it at 5 degrees and kill the power when it says "retard" you'll be fine.

Thanks for this. 1 question - what would be the benefit of flying track fpa above the regular fD. Appears to me they do the same? Thanks a lot!
@waypointsaviation Жыл бұрын
Hello, Thanks for your comment and question, and a good one! The FDs Flight Directors, provide guidance based off the parameters set on the FCU (AutoPilot Panel), You select a Heading, Altitude and Speed and the FDs will guide you to obtain and maintain those parameters if you're flying manually, or the Autopilot will simply follow them. The FDs while helpful, do NOT account for Wind correction effecting the actual trajectory of the Aircraft... For example, if you we're flying using the FDs you wanted to fly a heading / directional track of 300 degrees, now factor in a wind of 10 knots from the left pushing on the tail causing your nose to point to the left, your Heading would be 300 on the instruments but in reality you're flying an Actual Track of 290 degrees... this would lead you off course in time... The TRK/FPA (Bird) already takes into account the wind using data from the ADRs ... so if you fly in TRK/FPA mode and you select 300 degrees, you will be flying 300 degrees as it would take into account the wind direction and correct your trajectory for it. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching, if you havent already please Like and Subscribe and let us know if you'd like to see a specific video of something you'd like to learn...

Wow thank you for your prompt and in-depth answer. Really helpful. I have seen vids where the track fpa is used for manual landing and that makes sense (correcting for the wind). Very helpful. Love flying the fenix a320 in the simulator. Your vids help in making it more real and fun! Keep up the good work. Greetings from Amsterdam

Does the black square represent the aircraft pitch angle? So if the black square is on 5 degree up and the bird is on the horizon that mean the A/C is level with a slight pitch up to maintain lift?

So if the bird enables us to fly quite precisely, what's the point of the flight directors then? When do we need to use the bird and when should we use the flight directors?
@waypointsaviation Жыл бұрын
Good Question, In my opinion the FDs tend to be easier to Follow over all as it simply places a cross in front of the Pilot which he/she must place the nose of the A/C in. the Bird also comes with FDs but in a different form which can be seen in this video... kzbin.info/www/bejne/q3y3YaeCn9WJfNk Generally Airbus recommends using the FDs for normal flying, Takeoffs and Landings and ILS approaches, when performing "Non-Precision" approaches (VOR, RNAV, Visual) / Flying we can use the Bird to add a greater level of accuracy to our flying. Hope this helps

When the A/P armed dose the a/c follow the flight path by itself or the pilot has to move the stick to execute the trajectory? A am not a pilot by the way.
@waypointsaviation Жыл бұрын
Hello, So essentially the Autopilot of the A/C has only 2 modes, ON or OFF it cant be Armed... So when ON it will Immediately start following instructions requested on the FCU and the MCDU, when the Autopilot is on, any force applied on the side-stick or rudder pedals will disconnect the Autopilot. Hope this answers your question! :)

very good video but i am a real new newbie. I am trying to get through the second airbus tutorial which is landing (i have all assists on). It asks me to use a 3 degree angle of decent. Specifically how do i dial that in and do i need to adjust it at any point ? is this the right instrument, and where can i see that i have hit 3 degree of decent? currently i think i have done it but always end up too high for landing so im obviously doing something wrong. I really appreciate any help . thank you
@waypointsaviation3 ай бұрын
Not sure at what stage you are referring too. However, if you select the BIRD (TRK/FPA - Button) in the middle area of the FCU. You can use the vertical speed knob (on the FCU) to dial 3 degrees.
@wadastent6078 Жыл бұрын
thanks for the video. How accurate would it be to land the bird manually with an rnav or rnp with a cross wind of +10knots fr example using the bird and visual approach ? it would mach land at the center of the runway? or the bird only approaches to the minimum baro and it's up to you to land manually at the center of the runway?
@waypointsaviation Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment, the only Approach that can guide you beyond miniums to the runway and also guide you for center-line is an ILS, all the other Approach types (RNAV, RNP, GNSS, Visual, VOR) bring you down to minimums and then you proceed "Visually". With my experience in Flying the A320, after a couple of landings you learn to visually judge where the centre-line is in the cockpit and just becomes second nature to line it up visually, as practice does for all things.

Good stuff, but can you talk to us like adults please. Overstating the obvious only creates frustration for me at least. I know, its your "big toy" but some pilots on here actually fly for a living and prefer the info be more concise. Outside of that, very informative. I just dont need to be told which part of "the bird" is the tail and which part the wings, thanks.

Thanks for the comment, However, as for the rest of your comment, I don't address anyone as kids, I too am an Airline Pilot flying planes for a living, But this channel was not meant "Exclusively" for Real World pilots, I explain things in my videos so that EVERYONE from the kid playing Flight Sim on his computer to the absolutely newbie to aviation to the working professional pilot ALL can have something to take away from it.
