I think the overall fights in SwSh felt way more hype, because it wasn’t just you passing an exam for school, it was a stadium fight with pros, a cheering crowd, and a champion who had the charisma that it feels like you are the underdog.

I didn't like Scarlet and Violet's writing as much, I didn't like terrastilizing as much as a sudden Kaiju battle, I thought all of the town's were bland which don't get me wrong I thought SwSh towns were bland too but nowhere near that bad, I actually cared about Hop but I don't think I cared about anyone in ScVi, and yeah, overall I think SwSh just felt like a far more complete package.

SwSh was easy too, but at least I got some enjoyment out of making a giant lady shoot a magic bomb at Godzilla for the win. Also IMO Eternatus is the lamest pokemon ever - no actual hate towards him, I just can't help but chuckle at the fact that he's not some sort of palworld pal or like a Digimon, but because SwSh actually knew how to set up for the fight, I had more fun with that fight than any fight in ScVi.

I 100% agree. People didn't like it but in my opinion having wild areas seperate from the other routes and towns allowed loading zones in between in a way that makes the game not work as hard which improved frame rates and graphic quality. They should go back to that in future games. Even pla did that to an extent.

Something i really love in Sw/Sh thatbisnt present in SV is camping. Specifically playing with your Pokemon felt more interactive. You can talk to them, play with up to two at a time, and watch them race each other or chat in the back. In SV they mostly just run, walk, emote or sleep, and other than bathing them, which i did like, it doesn't feel as interactive playing with them as it does in Sw/Sh. I really liked bonding with my mons in Sw/Sh

The Galar gym battles are way better, in Galar they are framed as like major league sports matches, there’s honestly something astounding of you first time walking into a giant stadium with a huge crowd cheering for you while the whole thing is televised. They made the gym battles fit more cohesively into normal people’s everyday lives. Not to mention the music was breathtaking

Galar for me was more memorable as a region. I could easily pick any of towns out. The towns in paldea, while they LOOK graphically good, they felt a bit, same-y? Galar's towns struck a great balance between "real enough to not be obviously fake" and "whimisical/magical enough to still be fun and feel like a video game" paldea just felt like walking around google maps but with a cool dragon also having an open world is great but sometimes i feel like its a little too open for me? i loved being able to explore a more than usual without bumping into invisible walls but dont drop me in this huge region with like 4 storylines and no directions. it was like "ok go do things, have fun" And even if you arent gonna let me break and enter (understandable) they really couldnt make ONE shop model? even if it was only one shop interior, itd feel better than a pop-up menu.

How did the towns in SV feel samey? They all have distinct things about them except maybe medali since its the normal tyoe city. Cascarrafa has a multi level city plan, levincia has the giant circular bridge in the middle, mesagoza is mesagoza, montenerva is a cozy village with a rap scene, alfornada has that giant tower, etc.

Just to follow-up on those points: - It's probably because all of them were designed by take, but the Galar gym leaders just look super appealing - Dynamax & Gigantamax are dope, the latter especially. I just like form changes lol. And the lore surrounding the gimmick (and the IRL inspiration of Giant's Causeway) is just cool asf - The Gyms being literal sports arenas is not only clever considering Britain's football (or "sock-er"...) obsession, but it just elevates the vibe - SwSh had the better Gym music, no question lol. The chanting fits better in that context, and it sounds more natural - Leon is also just great as a character in general. He was way more involved and had personality - The towns are SUPER memorable, they all look distinct and unique. At the end of the day, aesthetic > graphics

The gym leaders for Scarlet weren’t as good, but I thought a few like Grusha and Larry were pretty good ones. (Mostly regarding how appealing and interesting they are as characters)

There are a lot of very good or very cool pokemon introduced in gen 9, and most Bugs have been Patched. The only real complaints left is the graphics, which is fair, and the empty open World, which got way better in the DLC, especially in p2. So i have to say, that in this very World we live in, SV are Solid games

The lighting and textures are what people usually care about but really they aren't always the most important. Fun Fact: with a Ghost/Fire Pokémon wielding Tera Grass, you can completely SWEEP Geeta. Chandelure, Skeledirge, and Ceruledge are a couple examples. this can also be done with Grass/Fire with Tera Ghost, and Grass/Ghost with Tera Fire. this gives Scovillain and Trevenant opportunities to shine as well

I think the town designs in SV were intentionally like that to provide some immersion to the open world by making them seem more realistic by design, which I think is further supported by the fact you can’t just walk into anyone’s house.

It’s a shame the cities in Paldea were so lacklustre because there was potential. There was clearly an effort to make each one visually distinct but they didn’t do enough to make that any more than simple set dressing. Giving us some points of interest other than the gyms in each town would have gone a long way.

The only thing that held SwSh back for me, was that the story felt too rushed. It was like it wanted to do so many things, but just didnt get the chance to(It's like it forgot that stories are supposed to have a middle inbetween the Beginning and End). SV was one of the first pokemon games where I actually got invested in the characters and their development(though it's worth noting that I havent played any games before gen 6 yet).

i think the best part of sword and shield was honestly the fact that leon wasn't just champion. he was a celebrity, and one that you could look up to, unlike geeta, who just felt like another boring champion who had to work as champion. the introduction to gen 9, walking up to the campus is something i'll probably forget. but leon visiting our home, the crowd that came to see him, his persona... now that is a true champion. and he's(i think) the only champion to date with the gall to stand up to a legendary!(correct me if i'm wrong)

I do really enjoy gen 8’s gym leader music but the ace themes has chants that gen 9 aces in comparison to gen 8’s Gen 8 utilised chanting as a musical element and gen 9 perfected it

Gen 2 was practically just dlc which is why it’s so barren. But in my heart Gen 8 will always be the worst, if you want reason RadicalSoda did a pretty good job covering literally everything.

The only graphics ScVi does better than swsh is the Pokémon models themselves. Pretty much everything else looks significantly better in swsh

I hate to say it, but I keep coming back to SwSh over other Pokemon games on Switch. It's mostly the character customization.

Scarlet and violet royally fucked up tms. it kinda makes sense to use the scraps from the fauna slaughtered in paldea but it gets so annoying after you build a handful of competitive teams. The biggest offender of this is Nasty Plot needing spiritomb mats, a mon who doesnt naturally respawn

I think that the creation of scarlett and violet was just too rushed, sure I'm glad I have it now but I think that just a fee more months of development and it would've been on par or even better than sword and shield

Since gen 6 we have been lacking the same content, like for every new big thing a gen does in SV case openworld we take something away like town/area uniqueness in design and going in buildings, etc In SV, there's nothing to make you want to come back in them like npcs to interact with

Nah you did not act like the Gym music held a candle to SwSh. For one it was clear that SV was outright trying yo copy the vibe of SwSh. Which COULD be fine - it's their franchise. But the reason it worked for SwSh in the first place is because of the arena/sports setting. Move to SV and the Choir sounds like it has more people than u see in the crowd for your battles. Which is crazy because the music sounds empty itself (I'll elaborate later.) Plus ngl the music itself was just... serviceable. In my opinion. It really felt like the artist was told they HAD to make it sound like SwSh's music since it was so gotdamn popular & rather than using the lilitations to inspire them, they just checked out & did juuuust *enough* rather than something they arranged with heart. And why do I feel this way (Aside from gut feeling & vibes lol)? Well. Just. Speaking as a composer, the changes are minimal, there are fewer phases, the music itself is less full-feeling due to how much unison they employ (like seriously -- WHERE ARE THE CHORDS) -ahem- ... Honestly if you told me they used the software vocals & not actual people I would believe you because in Galar we got very clear "Hey!"s but here it's??? "Ehh-ehh-hh..."?? Or some other nondescript vocalization that anything nowadays could produce. HHH- okay I'm sorry I gotta shut up I'm actually getting more frustrated the more I look at it from this angle so let me stop. 🤦🏾‍♀️

The raid battles were cleaner in gen 8. Raid battles in gen 9 are a crazy lagging mess.

pla is the king of switch pokemon games. actually, it is the best pokemon game in my opinion (nostalgia aside). it was actually so fun, and the alphas were crazy

The cool hat in the gyms would have been So So SO much better if they did it the opposite way. Gave the Gym Leader a good pokemon of their type and a strategically valuable terra type, instead of making them use Terra to match their theme type

The raids were INFINITELY better in swsh. For one they were more organized, especially in dynamax adventures it was a real challenge and everything felt so strategic. As opposed to the sheer janky chaos of tera raids. I mean my espathra died during the cinderace raid. When Nothing happened whatsoever.
