"Itz gewd to play wiz ze knife.." Agreed my man. I use my knife collection as fidget spinners, so they are like an extra finger to me now.. I've grown so familiar with my 3 main carry knives that they are basically just muscle memory.. I even bought a few for my mother and either taped or ground the edges and let her practice and play with them and now she knows lots of cool techniques, tricks, tactical maneuvers, and self defense uses. She practices flipping her Recon from standard to icepick grip and back while she watches TV lol practices drawing and deployment while she walks the dogs, and made a good point about how when she walks to the ATM she uses her knife clip as a money clip so it's out in her hand when she goes to deposit money or whatever.. Sharing knife knowledge can be really fun and rewarding, knowing you helped someone feel safer and actually BE safer.

Casey Bryan Its the most fun method for sure but it takes a bit of practice at first. id say the two handed method is the most reliable (for me at least). I have a 599 trainer that has a wave. took me a few tries to get the hang of it

usually relies on tip-up carry, which some people don't like because of safety concerns or just user preference
@r1w3d7 жыл бұрын
-Suburban- I've heard of tip down being a problem never tip up unless for some weird ass reason your carrying it tip up and in reverse so that the blades spine is towards your open pocket space. Tip down is a problem and I personally one day had a tip down carry and squatted when it was semi open which caused the tip of my knife to stab into my left thigh. It wasn't deep enough to be deadly but I had to glue it and my pants had a huge blood stain. Tip down is a problem for that reason because in the right spot or deep enough in a thigh you will bleed out pretty fast.
@TheSuburban157 жыл бұрын
Have carried tip-down in back pocket for over 20 years. If the knife were to open, the act of pulling it out would close it. If I carried tip-up, and it opened, I would cut my hand or finger(s) if I reached for it.
@bastirunne38277 жыл бұрын
-Suburban- or you could get a blade that doesnt open on its own. had a cheap knife which opened and cut open my backpocket and a bit of my right asscheek, after which i bought the cold steel spartan. its been my edc blade for about 2 years and i never had a problem with it.

also I like putting wave feature on my knife because this situation did happen to me I got rushed and I had time to pull my knife out but I couldn't deploy it under stress even though I had been practicing how to open the knife in this specific way I wasn't able to do it that's why I modify my cold steel recon 1 to have a wave feature so that drawing the knife and opening it are one motion and it's pretty reliable from my experience the wave opening will work under stress with minimum practice
@frankwoods1357 жыл бұрын
this is nothing new but I still like the technique

I think this is pretty cool. A good refresher course. What's also important. Is whether you are right or left handed , always practice drawing out you knife with your opposite hand. So if your dominant hand is injured. You can efficiently draw your weapon with your other hand.

Great video. Yes, I have had knife fighting training. He is correct about the adrenaline rush and people screwing up on deployment. Use situational awareness. I assume that you know what a kubotan might be. There have been times when I carry an undeployed Buck 110 in my hand. Non-threatening,nearly invisible, but available. On one occasion, very late at night in Beijing, I deployed my knife behind my leg and place other members of the group between the potential bad guys and myself.

I've been practicing the wrist snap method for a few years. I feel like it's flashy and a bit intimidating. Hopefully enough to dissuade an aggressor.
@BeSatori7 жыл бұрын
I remember getting rushed quite suddenly by an aggressive dog once while walking with my girlfriend. The dog stopped short and took off after I gave it a good shout (or roar!) and I realized I already had my knife in my hand and open. I couldn't even recall having done it but it was a good lesson that always wearing and using my knife had ingrained a powerful reflex in me. I live in the country and pull my knife a dozen times a day. It adds up.
@TheGreyman615 жыл бұрын
Back in the day when my EDC was a Buck 110 I had the knife worked out to where I could open it one handed (centrifugal). That was before thumbstuds became commonplace. Today with most higher end folders having an allen or torx type bolt holding the blade in the handle all one needs to do is adjust the screw tension on the blade and use a good lubricant in the friction areas to deploy the blade effortlessly

Do you do it with your dominant hand, and then regrip, or do you open with the weak hand, and then grab the handle with your dominant hand?
@keensoundguy66377 жыл бұрын
Obviously that method requires sufficient grip area on the top of the blade when it's closed. Among my many knives is an inexpensive Buck knife ("Spitfire") that only has a blade hole. Because of its design, I just naturally figured out that method. With a little practice, the second motion of adjusting your grip onto the handle becomes almost part of the first motion. To answer Suburban's question, yes, I do it with the dominant hand and regrip.
