I love this episode. Your show is always refreshing. Instead of just referring products, we are hearing real life stories from people who have same concern as us

Long before FIRE - In my 20s, I started savings for a rain day. I spent on my OT pay, save my basic pay 100%. In 4 yrs time, I was able to go abroad for my overseas studies. After I graduated, I continued the same philosophy on spending only on necessary items and saving the rest. You could call that FIRE. Now at age 55, I should be able to retire or continue to work - barista FIRE, not needing to worry about future expenses or retirement.

Chanced upon your channel recently and love your content and insights. It's definitely possible to be a corporate worker FIRE and I can resonate with Tony. I retire in my early 40s for a decade and also started temp employment since Covid. Yes, there's a mindset difference between frugality and stinginess. Challenge yourself to creatively address/solve some "pain points" so your FIRE lifestyle is fun and enjoyable. Keep up the good creative work, Coconuts!

I think it will be useful to also know their age, and a bit more of background of for example how long they have been working and accumulating.. Dont need exact age, but ballpark figure would be beneficial.. Thumbs up overall for this kind of content..

The older you get, the more important regular income becomes. Capital gains brings about risk which may be too high.

For FIRE, also advise it’s good to pay up the CPF housing loan

If you have hit FRS, I rather invest the cash instead of repaying the CPF OA, which generates liquid cashflow

CPF is compounding. Most people investing in equities and bonds cannot do it on a compounding basis. Should pay up the cpf loan and invest it if necessary. This way, those funds are locked into a base 2.5% rate on a going forward basis. Don't ever compare rates of return without comparing the risk involved.

Great content. Felt like I found my tribal people. Not sure if it's in your interests, but it could be, and could be fun to curate and manage a community of like-minded folks. Keep it up!

Hmm, DINKS budget 50k yearly expense still makes sense. I won't tighten to live miserably $20k for the sake of FIRE poorly. Don't forget, we may still have 40 more years to be alive. Really no need to overkill to try so hard to retire before 60. Whatever for? We need humans to keep us alive, smile, meaning and finish well, not poorly and worriedly.

Mortgage is good debt. Never try to avoid. The day one stop working, u worth nothing to Bank. So borrow and manage reasonably. Stay flexible and not start strap up at ypung age. Would be sad. FIRE at 55, would be perfect.

Dudes. interesting to hear you guys talk. Seems like most of you are in your 40s? fire been around as a concept for years in US. However, most Americans think about building a portfolio sustain themselves in the US. Lately, been reading more and more about people building a portfolio in US then move to lower cost countries in Europe, South America and Asia and live really good on $3000US per month. But as I look back on all the interesting ideas for building a portfolio, here’s the simplest one. The Warren Buffett formula. Put $10,000 in the Spy or brkb on Jan 1, 2020 and not touch it for 24 years. Crunch the numbers. The value today would be enough to retire in Malaysia very comfortably? Why didn’t you all do it like that?

It is about finding the strategy that works for you and address the assumptions of the strategy in a way that is logical. I believe even this idea you are talking about has assumptions that are too lengthy to explore here. Maybe we can do an episode about it in the future :)
