I have never seen finger gathering. I really like that - so much easier for adding ruffles. Thanks for sharing.

Those darts are brilliant! Just enough to give a little shape.

If you sew the straps to the back first then try it on, you can adjust the straps perfectly pin and sew the front. If you’re like me and some others you may have one shoulder lower than the other and this allows you to fit the straps to allow for this. I have to make my left strap slightly shorter so it won’t slip off my shoulder.

What a beautiful shade of blue that shirt is. Excellent tutorial Sherry, I really appreciated the front dart demonstration. Thank you for sharing all of these tutorials with us. I so look forward to getting notifications when you upload a new video. Blessings.

Could you make a man's shirt into a woman's peasant blouse with sleeves (not too low necked so it can be worn to school)? This looks like a great way to make summer night gowns. Butterfly sleeves would hide my ugly upper arms. Wonderful idea. Thank you.

Some of these techniques I'm working on myself. I will share as I learn. Thank you for the great suggestion. I really appreciate it.

I’ve made peasant style blouses out of men’s shirts. They’re very easy to do, wish I had a way to show you. Basically just cut off the collar and cut a scoop neck and face with bias tape for a casing and put elastic in it. You can cut a short sleeve and make a casing and put elastic in it.

I did just watch a video where they did that same thing!

For the serged ends, I use a drop of June Taylor’s Fray Block. It’s gotten a little more expensive and harder to find at Joanns (where I only bought it when they had the BOGO sales) but it is totally worth it. Comes in a blue metal tube (like toothpaste). The nozzle turns into a hot mess (like super glue) but it’s great stuff. And I just noticed that it also says “Secures serged threads” on the bottle. I sell upcycled knit skirts and have never had a complaint with the threads coming undone.

That is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. It can be tricky to keep them from raveling. I was watching a lady use a serger on KZbin and she used a bic lighter to heat the threads and it works! Just a tiny moment over the threads and they are set...melted in place with no damage but do be careful with that method. I can see how it could end in disaster.

Nice tutorial. When I make these to sell I make the straps tie so the customer can adjust them. I also leave the bottom two buttons able to be opened so they can be a little more room at the bottom. I haven’t put the front darts in mine so they stay a bit more roomy, but the darts do make it more feminine as does the ruffle. All good ideas!

Before I had anything else to use, I used my longest handled wooden spoon from the kitchen as a strap turning tool.🤭 Adorable new shirt! Thanks for sharing your ideas.

Another cute upcycle! I really like the butterflies and dragonflies on your accent fabric. It looks really good with the blue shirt. When I learned the half, then half again gathering I was told it is called divide and conquer gathering, which made me laugh. I use it for pleats too.

I picked up a couple in the thrift shop the other day and was thrilled to find they were long enough to make a dress or skirt. Mens' XL. They're usually better quality fabric, and nicer colours.

Super cute top! Where can I find Episode 1 in this series? I don’t see a playlist yet. Also, do you have a video of where you made the orange “patched” tee that you were wearing at the beginning? I’d love to see a full length view. I always learn something new from all of your tutorials. Keep up the great work!

I find the easiest way to do straps is to sew the straps on the back. Then try it on and safety pin the front straps.

Thank you for your classes. I am so enamoured with your Bernini! My mom had one from the early 60’s. I took lessons on Singer machines but loved the quality of the Bernina at home. Such fond memories!

You are so creative! I don't care for that much embellishments. More suitable for a little girl than me. But it would be a cute sleep shirt for me. Lots of ideas here!
@annseabolt66456 ай бұрын
I’m the same. It’s a little fussy for my taste. I would probably make the straps out of the sleeve material and if I wanted a ruffle I would try to find a solid to match one of the shirt colors or even a coordinating lace.
