9. Converse With Cats
Even though animals do not speak human speech, some do understand what certain human sounds mean. Talk regularly to your cat. Speaking to them acquaints them with your voice and the emotions attached to different tones you create. Plus, speaking assures them you are paying attention. However, for cats to understand you, you need to understand what their sounds mean first so that you may communicate effectively. You might sound like the crazy cat lady talking to your cat alone, but your pet won’t think so.
8. The Curled Tail
An excited cat will flick its tail. Remember, the word "excited" does not always mean “happy.” It’s possible your cat feels threatened when flicking its tail. When cats want to play, their tail looks as if it’s waving. What tail movement displays your cat’s love for you? Look for a curved tip, which indicates ease. A tail straight up in the air with a curved tip may mean contentment and a willingness to act friendly.
7. Let Them Lick You
When cats lick themselves, they’re usually grooming. Many times, if you stroke your cat’s fur, they respond in kind by licking you to reassure you that they love you back. Think of a cat’s lick as the equivalent to humans hugging. For those who think animals licking you is gross, please don’t own a pet. You will disappoint them immensely.
6. Head Butting
Rams headbutt to fight. Even people head butt to fight. Felines headbutt to say they adore you. Kitty headbutts are non-aggressive and are a demonstration of trust. Heads faced down are weak spots for animals. A cat willing to put its head down to bonk you is a cat that trusts you with their life. Take some time to observe their facial movements. A slow blink means they’re comfortable around you. Blink back, and your cat receives the same message.
5. Stress Relief, Cat Tree
So maybe they don’t pay the bills or help the kids with their homework, but pets also feel stress! Anxious animals need an outlet extreme emotions. These creatures of habit do not accept change readily, but there are few things you can do to decrease stress in the home whether it’s a new pet, a newborn baby, or a new house. Catnip, as we said before, is good for relaxing them. You can also try herbs like dried chamomile or hops. Toys like a cat tree or scratching post assist cats in channeling that anxiety into energy.
4. Personal Space, Please!
If you haven’t caught on by now with all the references to wild cats, your feline is a territorial creature. Like in any relationship, no one likes smothering. Allow your cat all the personal space you want. After all, if you wanted a constant companion that followed you everywhere, you would’ve adopted a puppy. Create a space for your cat with a bed, toys, and water.
3. Feed Them Their Favorites
Sometimes, a bowl of warm food is just what the veterinarian ordered. Whatever your cat’s favorite food is, don’t forget to pamper them with it once in a while. Milk is a kitten favorite and is generally safe for them to drink, but older cats may exhibit signs of lactose intolerance. If your cat is no longer a kitten, you should purchase special cat milk for them to enjoy. Meats are a safe bet. Other human foods such as anything with whole grains, fish, and veggies are healthy for your cat to munch on, too. Take note of the kinds of cat food that they’re fond of and spoil them once in a while! Foods to steer clear from are grapes foods, garlic, bread dough, and chocolate.
2. Groom Them Yourself
Cats groom themselves all the time, that’s why furballs exist. Once in a while, try to groom your cat yourself. They will most likely welcome the gesture! Brushing their bodies is another way to exhibit affection through touch. Brushes made especially for cats are available to buy so that your cat has the optimal brushing experience. Experts suggest brushing 1 to 3 times a week for short-haired cats. Longer-haired cats need brushing 1 to 2 times a week. When high shedding season rolls around in the spring and summer, groom cats a little more often.

Im 74 and have had off and on since I was 8 and with every cat I sang and eventually each.cat acquired a theme song of sorts. Something I sang to it every day. Either a known song like YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE or something I made yp using their name. Soon they know when they hear me sing it they know I love them. If the cats are uneasy or ill hearing their theme song seems to calm them. Also, if they need to be boarded for some reason ( like away on my vacation ) I have left a tape or cassette with me singing this tune with the ppl taking care of them. All my cats have seemed to enjoy hearing me sing.

Tip: cats follow your eyes for direction. If you pat your lap for them to jump up and snuggle but instead they give you a confused look. Move your eyes from them to your lap and back again but do not blink while doing this or you'll confuse them again. Hope this is helpful!

There was this one time when my cousin cat was on top of the closet, chilling. He looked down on me and stared at me, watched me eating. I felt uncomfortable, awkward if I can say. So I paused on that and looked back at him. I smiled the same way as I do when flirting. It did effect the cat. He just jumped off the closet and jumped on table, next to my food. I thought he wants to taste it since it had meat but he just gave it a sniff, let me pet him and got down on my phone which was also on table, charging. The cat was sleeping right next to me. Mine will sit between me and her food. She looks at bowl then at me! I lucked into a good one that showed up and refused to leave. Then had a extra 3 kittens a month later! Have not received a single scratch are since 2012! She has a favorite spot to pick at on the couch. You have to look real close to see the damage but it can be felt for sure!

I get irritated when people say they are independant. Cats need their human. They do not forgive the owner who drops them off at WalMArt or local park. IT hurts their feelings. For weeks after abandonment they will run up to familiar cars and cry. They dont want to be feral again. I take care of a fera colony and I can tell which ones were abandoned. I usually try to find homes for them. The other cats pick on them. They are not part of the gang. They are lonely. They want their human. My cat may not pay the bills, but he earns his keep.

ziblot123 independent is not the same as abandoned. Cats ARE fairly independent in that they don’t require constant attention or petting. They are content to snooze in the window or in another room from you. THEY will choose when to snuggle and when to seek solace. Some dogs, particularly small ones, will tail you constantly. You can’t sit down or they’re on you or right beside you constantly. We had a pug like that. But cats will choose when to do that and don’t like being forced to sit on your lap, etc. THAT is independent.

He didn't like leaving me. Now days I have a gray cat who is very independent and if you give her attention when she doesn't want it she will give you a warning shot. If you continue she will bite a little, continue and she draws blood. So, cat personalities very greatly from dependent to independent. Its just most people think they are fiercely independent and don't take the time to really enjoy their cat and even train them.

If I could tell my cat in words she understood, I would tell her that I loved her to pieces, and then I'd love all the pieces. My mother used to say that to me when I was young. My cat is 16 yrs old. I am 74. I hope that she passes before me, because i had to be away from her once for 3 weeks, and she was a basket case, my daughter told me. Calling for me, looking for me. I NEVER want that to happen again.

Doris, just take good care of yourself & you will be around for another 15 years, no smoking or excessive drinking. You could even adopt another cat who is an adult, maybe 6 or 7 years old that would love to be spoiled by you. My dog, Cammie is 12 years old & we just adopted a homeless kitten, Buddha Thai, who is only 4 months old. Lord Willing, I'll be around to care for them both their entire lives & I'm 69.

Yeah, my singing voice is only good for singing along to songs, but my cats will come running whenever it's that type of day and just sit and watch me the _whole_ time. Exactly! I was going to write a similar comment to this. A cat showing their belly is defintely not a "green light" to immediately touch their belly like this video said. If a cat shows it's belly, it's best to let them sniff your hand, start petting their head, neck, shoulders etc. and watch to see if they're receptive to you petting their tummy. Like you said, it can startle them or make them defensive if you immediately go for their belly.

I just adopted a kitten recently and at midnight around 1 am she was sleeping on me and she woke up and showed me her belly and I rubbed it then that's when she started acting weird and hissing any advice? @@xi.dntknow6829 She will be okay! When a cat shows their belly to you it's not always a green light to touch it! Especially with kittens, they're still learning and figuring things out. If she was asleep she was probably just startled by you touching her tummy. Try not to touch her belly when she's just woken up, it can startle them and definitely not when they're in playful mode because you'll get a lot of little claws and teeth in your hand haha. Don't worry, carry on as usual with her but just remember to be respectful and gentle with her! Another important thing is never play with her with your hands, if they learn hands are toys it's nearly impossible to train them out of that later on! Good luck with your little kitten 😊

After reading many wonderful and remarkable animal stories, I'm convinced they understand us on a level we don't perceive or understand. So I regularly tell my pets that I appreciate their company and thank them for hanging with me; things like that. i actually know why cats knead on you ! when they are kittens drinking from their mothers milk, they tend to knead the mom’s stomach area to stimulate the milk and sort of warm it up/make it ready for them to drink. so whenever you find them doing this to you or somewhere around you, it means they are happy and loved, and think of you as a parent. :)

I recently had a medical issue cause from the radiation therapy treatments I got and my cat knew I had something wrong with my body in that spot, She always climbs up on my chest just before going to bed for hugs, kisses, and scratches, She start avoiding the spot when she would climb up on me and would point at the spot with her noise, She seemed worried about me while trying to tell me about it, She knew something was seriously wrong even when the doctors couldn't figure it out, It took me almost bleeding to death for the doctors to figure out what was wrong but It seemed like my cat knew, On another note, my mother is deaf in one ear and almost completely deaf in the other, One night when she was sleeping on her good ear, the buildings fire alarm started going off and my mother couldn't hear it, her cat woke her up my batting her softly in the head and wouldn't leave her alone until she sat up in bed, that's when she heard the fire alarm going off, the good news is there was no fire but if there was, her cat would of just saved both their lives, Cats are smarter than people give them credit for, My cat is extremely smart and I could go on and on about the things she has done or does to support this but my post is all ready long enough,

Your story reminds me of an old cat I had growing up. Long story short, we rehomed him to an older woman. Later down the road she told us how thankful she was to have him because he ended up saving her life by waking her up when she forgot to take her meds. I believe she was diabetic and was going into a diabetic coma on her couch.

However, when they are comfortable with you and with the situation, this is a nice way to cuddle. My cat used to like it if I pursed my lips and blew gently at her, she would smell my breath. Well, it's not really a trap, it's just that most of us humans misinterpret the signal. Like they said in the video, it really means "I trust you to not attack me!", not "plz rub mah belleh!" A lot of cats, maybe even most, don't like people touching their bellies, and may get _very_ defensive, like your cat. It's a good sign that your cat seemed so trusting, though. It probably means she was very comfortable in your family :-)

Hard. I lived in an apartment and when repairmen came, Pansy was at their side. She'd flirt with them and they'd end up letting her watch the repairs, even going so far as to explain what they were doing. It was kind of cute.

My cat passed away on May 9th, 2019 at 21 years and 10 months of age. We adopted him in the late '90s. I would tell him that I miss him dearly and that we will always love him. I was 10 when we adopted him, and he passed away 2 days after my birthday this year. I will never forget, Midnight. He was a DMH that looked like he was wearing a tuxedo- a tuxedo cat.

I had a Ragdoll that passed away on June 3 2019. She would have been 16 on July 12. She had been with me through so much over the years, when I was deeply depressed she would always curl up to me and purr loudly letting me know I was loved. She was so sweet and followed me everywhere, and would cry out when I left the house. But when I got back she was always right at the door waiting for me. I still miss her so much and will love her for the rest of my life.

She was a Platinum Burmese like the one I have now. They have very similar behaviors. Take good care of your cat. Don't feed her grains. Their Kidneys are not built to process grain. Rice is tolerable but not needed.

My husband and I adore our cat. She was 3 weeks old when become family and currently she is 18 years of age. We greet her when coming home, pet, play, converse with her... What I like to say to her: "You are the most beautiful cat in the world and I love you!" Her response is blinking softly. Sometimes after petting her and before living the room I turn around, give her soft blink and she responds with the same, except when she is grumpy for some reason:) it is a definitely one more way to communicate with her and telling her we love her. She understands at least 12 different words and/or phrases with the right intonations, it is really helpful in our communication and I would say I can read her pretty well. She loves to have a naps with my husband 💕

I'm writing this after lockdown in 2020. I didn't realize how much my cat communicates to me that I hadn't paid attention to before. He got a treat for scratching his post years ago. He just tapped his post, pushed a ball that's sitting around since he was a kitten then started - banging on the flaps of his box. That was new. Of course cats love boxes but he was banging away and looking at me like, "Hey, do I have your attention?" The flap thing was freaky new. I wondered how many times he's touched his scratching post to say he was hungry or wanted a treat or to play. New one from a friend abroad. Cats like olive tree branches and olives and dried olives. Try and explain to someone in Athens, sigh, we don't have olive trees in the Northeast. Anyone in California know this? Land that grows grapes will grow olives.

The more you can simulate that, the more you will challenge their mind. This and the slow blink "I love you" are two great engaging techniques. I just lost my best friend 4 weeks ago yesterday we were never apart unless i went to visit my mom or run to a store other than that she and i were always together all she wanted to do was get on my lap in my chair with a blanket over her. She loved her back massages every night. I had so many nicknames for her. She was only 7 and never had any health issues. It was mothers day and as usual she was on my lap well she got up and went down to our bedroom to use the litter box like always i noticed a half hour later she didnt come back so i figured she is waiting on me to come down and go to bed i sllel (in my chair) which she does alot so i went down to go to bed and she was there in my chair and thats how i found her. When holding or picking up a cat or kitten, remember to support their feet and legs. Pressure on their diaphragm is painful to uncomfortable. Support their entire body. If a child is too young to provide this for their pet then picking them up is not advised.

I talk to my cat everyday. Idk if he understands what I said, but he always answers back, they’re very expressive answers too, either with his tone or action. I remember talking to him, telling him that he’ll be neutered in a few days. On neuter day, he was unusually calm, waited for me to get ready instead of running off to neighbour houses(that was his morning routine) and he’d get into his carrier without fighting. It was as if he understood what I said days before and prepared for the surgery in his own way. Now after neuter, he’s more affectionate than ever and thankfully he doesn’t get into cat fights anymore but still as energetic as ever.

I have a 9 month old kitten. I have seen almost all of these things and done them. My favorite is that she ALSWAYS sleeps at the foot of the bed. I feel so bad when I roll over and accidentally kick her. The most touching story is what follows. Early February I had surgery. Normally, Fubuki is your typical hyperactive energy burst kitten with fits of full speed runs around the room, including over my bed thile I'm in it, since it usually happens around 6am. While in recovery, she was so calm. Not a single huge energy outburst until I was feeling better and able to move better. She is always happy for me to get home from work, and she knows that she gets loved on, petted, and a treat. lol

My cat lived to be 23 years old. She hated every other man she ever met except my brother. I would introduce a woman I was dating to my cat before my Mom, because kitty would let me know immediately if the gal and I were truly compatible. If I could talk to her, I would say "I miss you".

I really enjoyed this video and over decades of feline companionship...since I was age 5....I had figured most of them out....but I always tell my cat that I live her multiple times a day....I say "Mommy loves Reeny" in a sweet living tone and she looks at me attentatively and slowly blinks.... she definitely knows what I mean.

As soon as my kitty hears my alarm in the morning he jumps up, lays on my chest and nudges my face until I wake up lol something about the sound of it, I tested it at different times of the day and he still did the same thing!

A stray cat (lives outside) that literally loves me, she has a backstory, ask for it lmao xD But when ever I rub her chin, she purrs. I rub her chin and she’s so comfortable, she lays down with her belly exposed (which means she trusts me) and then gets back up again when she hears a noise lol.She also marks her scent everywhere like on my knees, and the walls.

My little love would hold my finger in her paw. She'd cuddle. And she taught ME to play fetch. It amazed me that she could find q-tips, since I rarely used them. She developed diabetes and then breast cancer, and most of these behaviours ceased. I was obligated to call in the Angel of Death (travelling vet, of course) because I couldn't stand to see her suffer anymore. I think she had mixed emotions when the Lady arrived. She gave her that sideways look, but she also ate the treats the vet offered (which, for Tink, was almost unheard of, to take food from a stranger). It was a dreadful day. Tink was a little over 17 years old, and I shall not forget my lovely little girl, who chose me when she was about 5 weeks old. A very valuable friend.

I recently rescued a stray kitten, she was abandoned I couldn't find her mother or the rest of the kittens anywhere so I decided to keep her. Got her checked by the vet and all, she was just 2 weeks old when I took her in now she is close to a month and half....I stay alone and she coming into my life has changed me in so many ways. If I could speak her tongue, I'd say "you're the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and nothing's gonna happen to you on my watch" She was soo scared when I first brought her, she wouldn't leave her box now she sleeps with me and stays with me all the time. This was the best decision I ever made.
