Michel Linschoten Not really. The name develops how people locally say it. Take for instance Nestlé.a Swiss brand. We should be saying it a German accent. In the UK it's NESS-Lay While Canadians I've heard say it Nest- ull While in HK I've heard variations of Nee su. Nesay. While in Scotland it's just fuckin' coffee.

Around my neck of the woods, Snickers is a "new-ish" product. For starters there was only the standard bar but now they introduced the two bars pack and the four bars pack. I have only ever purchased the two bar pack once because it was being heavily discounted since it was a new release. Reason for that is because the two bar is about 5% lighter but ~15% more expensive than buying two single bars. The four pack follows a similar trend. Unfortunately people look at differently colored price tags and think they are actually saving money buying the packs.

So, there is 100 dollars in the world and I have 50. If I loan you 40 dollars at 10% interest, our agreement has then raised the total number of dollars to 104. If I am to be paid the interest, 4 more dollars must be printed out of thin air, and these dollars do not represent gold or any physical good, so the value of the dollar is now less.

trybal007 This is one of the big problems with capitalism. Companies unfortunately design products to fail after a certain amount of use. You forgot the "2 for " pricing or the double packaged "buy 2 and save" packaging. I see this a lot, especially at Wal Mart. I have made it a habit to actually pull out my calculator (on my phone) and check. About half the time it will save you a few pennies. Many times though, it is definitely a marketing scheme to get consumers to spend more $$$$. I used to fall for this all the time. I have also discovered that at my grocery store, one doesn't have to buy 2 to get the deal. For example, the 2/$5 deal. One can buy 1 item and spend only $2.50.
@tagaway6173

Yes my grocery store does that. Well I actually worked there after. I used to tell the customers that they don't really need to buy 4 cans of Campbell's soup of whatever. That we have set prices all the time. In fact, to this date I think nothing is "cheaper" if you buy more in there. Only sale items are "less" and is marked in their flyers.
@donaldmiller8629

Yes, I have noticed the change in portion sizes . Not only do you get less, the decrease in size is often paired with a price INCREASE ! For example , I once used to purchase ten frozen burritos for $1.98 . That price eventually went up to $2.98 while the package decreased to 8 burritos. Yesterday I purchased the same brand at $4.02 for 8 burritos. At which point I believe that I will stop buying frozen burritos altogether. They are not that good to be paying so much more for them. It is the same way with ice cream. The shape of the package was changed (making them smaller ) while the price of ice cream increased. I no longer buy ice cream either . I simply make my own at home. And it's much better ice cream ! Same with ground coffee with it's fillers. I buy whole coffee beans and grind my own at home. It is much fresher and I have coffee that I know is 100% coffee ! It takes less than a minute to grind a few beans and viola' fresh real coffee ! And without the fillers , it does not take that many coffee beans to make a pot of coffee. My coffee beans actually go farther than my old ground coffee with the fillers. The previous 16 oz. bottle of beer decreased to 12 oz. for the same price. I bet that few people have noticed that their beer is now 11.5 or 11.7 oz , again , still at the same price. I suspect that it will not be long before a bottle of beer is at 10 oz.

+Rubbix More like chemicals. Did you know that high fructose corn syrup is regular corn syrup that is chemically altered to add more sweetness (I think using extra fructose molecules). Also, most margarines are just vegetable oil (that is naturally liquid at room temp) that is chemically altered with hydrogen (atom/ions?) so it is solid at room temp? That is why I don't eat margarine and try to avoid foods that contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. This is really difficult to do so, however, because most foods these days have partially hydrogenated vegetable oil in them.

Long names don't mean unhealthy. There's deoxyribonucleic acid, aka DNA. Ascorbyl palmitate is an antioxidant made from Vitamin C. Pyridoxine is the scientific term for Vitamin B6. Ferrous gluconate is iron in edible form, used in iron supplements. Glucono delta-lactone is a leavening agent made from veggies instead of yeast. Carbonic acid is club soda. Isothiocyanate is an antioxidant found in greens like mustard and cauliflower. Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli are pro-biotics that aid digestion and are already in your stomach. Lycopersicon esculentum is tomato. Saccharomyces cerevisiae is brewer's yeast. Long words and chemical names aren't unhealthy. But ignorance is.

I was a retail manager for 10 years. And it is true about companies using product placement. All managers were taught merchandising placement for our products and in turn had to teach our staff how to merchandise the shelves. In our company second and third shelves were the prime buying area as they said those are the shelves that your eyes are drawn to first. So we would run our products vertically in a line on all shelves so the buyers saw all of our products. And as items would sell out we were to make sure the second and third shelves always had the most stock even if a bottom shelf had nothing on it. Also when we had a big sale everything in the store would be raised up to the highest suggested retail price then marked down from there. So everything in store is 50% off is not true as a item that was on sale for $20 the day before has now been raised back up to $50 msrp and is now half off for $25. Hated doing that

Chore Boy It's called inflation. At about 7% inflation prices double every 10 years so over 13 years either the price more than doubled or the quantity more than halves. 6 at slightly more than the price of 12 and slightly smaller from 13 years ago matches this quite well. on another Topic (sic): I remember when Mars and Twixt both got 10% bigger for the same price and the big advertising that went with it.

The kind of extreme inflation that has happened over the past 8 years is due to having a socialist government in the US. It happened with Clinton and Carter too. It settles down and is nowhere near as shameless when real humans are in the white house. Here are some examples. Salmon: Throughout G.W Bush's reign it was around a steady 3.75 a pound. At the start of Obama's reign it was 3.75 a pound. At the end of his reign it is 16 dollars a pound here. Remember the fake gas crisis when Carter was in office? Or the fake sugar shortage? Yep. Same thing. Criminal inflation. And then there are smokes. That filthy pinko, Obama passed a 28 dollar a pound increase in taxes for tobacco. My 8 dollar a tin imported tobacco went to 32 dollars overnight. Over taxation is a fairly large part of inflation. That pinko also added in a second tax, so now in the US you can see on receipts a tax 1 and tax 2 for the same fucking items. Bomb Burritos were 16 ounces and cost 1.79 from 2001 to 2008. Now they are 14 ounces and cost 4 dollars.

I had worked as a Operations Manager for an Office Supply store for 3 years. I can say that they very much do plan the location of everything and they do it by buying seasons. We would change our stores total layout 6 times a year and were talking MAJOR layout changes. Some deceptive marketing is also done by gender appeal. Making a pen for women that is no better than the normal pens for $1 and yet a package of 2 pens is $15. That's a $13 markup!

What I've noticed WalMart doing is introducing products that are priced below other products only to quit selling them after we have become accustomed to buying them. There are many products that I've bought on a regular basis only to find that those items are never restocked after a period of time. I've told others that what I believe is that it's a ploy to cause consumers to buy a higher priced item since they are already at the store rather than to leave without their chips, crackers, cereal, soda, or other items they buy on a regular basis. I remember a few years ago when I noticed the Breyer's ice cream container didn't look right. Upon closer examination, I found that it was just as wide as their previous 1/2 gallon but not as deep (front to back), and that it had been reduced by 25% (from 64oz to 48oz) while the price stayed the same. I shop by comparing the price per unit (oz., lb., count, etc.) with items that are the same or just as good as... Sometimes the smaller items are less expensive than the same brand that is double the size of the smaller. We usually expect quantity discounts and often get them, but not always. Make sure to look at the price per unit when the price tag shows both prices. I usually find that items over 9oz to be a good deal for the most part if they're around a dollar. If I'm spending a dollar for something under 9 or 10 oz. it better be something special.

I noticed things shrinking about 20 years ago when coffee went from 1 pound containers to gradually shrinking to 10 ounces. Ice cream went from half a gallon to 1.75 quarts to 1.5 quarts. At first it was just a few things I noticed were shrinking. Now it is almost everything from boxes of crackers to sausages to canned goods to toilet paper. So many things have shrunk that it has affected some of my recipes which require a can of something. And if the can has shrunk and I don't know what the size was before, I can't even measure the right amount because I don't know what it should be. Oh the agony.

Well I don't know about Lulu Lemon, since it is not marketed or available in my country. However, Nike is named after the Greek goddess of victory so anyone who pronounces it in English is actually pronouncing it wrong since letters are pronounced differently in Greek. I is pronounced like in the word "it" or "in" and e is pronounced like in "meh". So Nike actually sounds like "Neekeh" (the ee is not a long sound like in "see" but I just haven't found a better way to type it).

Uh.. no. Brand names are proper nouns, so yes, there is a correct way. It's whatever the company says their brand is supposed to be pronounced as, as it's their brand. It's like saying pronouncing "Nintendo" as "Nine-teen-doo" is fine because who cares. And it's obvious Nintendo doesn't pronounce their name brand any other way. Same with Nike, and same with Lulu Lemon. Any other way than what the company says it is incorrect. This doesn't mean anyone should care how the pronounce it, but to say there isn't a correct way is... well... incorrect.

When I go grocery shopping, I do most of my shopping around the perimeter of the store. This is where you will find the meat, dairy and dairy related items, and fresh produce. I only go into the interior aisles to buy specific things I have on my list, like toiletries, laundry and cleaning supplies, and certain packaged foods (ie rice, beans, spices, pasta). I never browse through the interior aisles, and I never go down the junk food aisles. I worked in a grocery store years ago, and I have shopped like this ever since then.

11:32. Haha, top 10s fit so well for youtube's algorithm... just do at least a minute for every number, have a fairly long intro, and use baity end screens for the last 20 seconds. 'It's free!' It's not twitch, of course subbing is free. Just adding that is making idiots who think it costs to sub because... well, it's free. 10/10 marketing.

Why bother advertise the price of the product if it doesn't include the tax? Here is an example. Here in Ontario our merchandise and labour taxes are 13% Should you wish to purchase something for, say, $ 9.99 it really cost you $11.29 or as the penny has been removed it is now $ 11.30. If paying cash. But the most aggravating part is you cannot buy anything with paying the tax so why insult the consumer and hide it?

Joseph Perrotta I don't know how it works in Canada, But in the US, the damned sales tax varies so much not just state to state,but county by county. They'd need hundreds of differing ads and lables for the same product!

Joseph Perrotta because it will still get more people to buy it. If someone sees $9.99 then they would rather buy it than when they see$11.29 so yeah the product pays them just as much but it's how much they sell, because if they can legally visually take that much off the price then they gain more

It's important to look at the volume/weight of an item compared to the price rather than the optics of the item. If the chips come in a huge bag, just look at the ounces/grams of product rather than the size of the container. Chip bags are filled with nitrogen to keep them fresh and cushioned.

This is also why it takes me hours to buy a good products. because of all this BS they confuse us with. When I worked in a business selling electronics and amplifiers, I was like wtf...If companies wanted to, they could sell you something that WILL Last forever and would be everything you need... but they fcking dont. and they expect you to believe that you should be buying over and over again instead of saving up and doing something better with your life than to chase for vanity. Fcked up business sht needs to end before karma knocks down all their defenses. and dont think i dont know what they're capable of.

Lets see. False sense of saving's with the Buy X Save Y sales that companies(like the one I work for) do. For example. Product X is regularly 3.99 and is on sale for 3.49 but if you buy 10 participating sale items you get 5 dollars off your order and get Product X final cost 2.99. Keep in mind the "Final Cost" there. You just made a 20 dollar shopping trip into a 40 dollar shopping trip because of your false sense of savings, because you bought more than you originally were going to get. Also look at the price per unit/ounce when buying stuff. Buying the larger bottle of Laundry Soap cost more in the short game but wills ave you in the long run.
@Realityvoidx

The practice of increasing the items "cost" on a shelf tag when the item goes on sale. Ex. $2.99 for 4 weeks in a row, item goes on sale for 2/$6, item price goes up to 3.69 as regular retail price just during the sale period.

5) I was taught to do this when I worked at Clark's. We will show you the $80 pair of shoes, then try to up sell using our nice $150 shoes. Either the customer will try the $150 shoe on, feel how comfortable they are, and buy them, or they'll think the $80 shoes all of a sudden seem very reasonable. Either way I get money for lunch and my manager gets to pay her rent.

To everyone who thinks the company Nike is pronounced the same way as the original Greek god by the same name: Remember how you guys get on our case about mispronouncing European names like Audi and Adidas? We get it. Those names are pronounced a specific way from their country of origin, and we are starting to change how we say them. But you can't pull a double standard and claim that an American company name's pronunciation isn't "correct" simply because it isn't the same as the original word. That's a really low level of silly. I would say stupid, but I want to be nice.
