Even though Gosetsu cried out and questioned it, them surviving the castle collapse gave Yotsuyu the chance to experience kindness for once in her life before she died. I like how part of the fight showed that. Gosetsu MVP.

@@TheOnlyLonelyBoy I don't really think the kami had anything to do with it. That is, I don't think the "Kami" even exist, just like the Twelve. Some beings worshiped as Kami are just Auspices like Seiryu, other beings worshiped as Kami are Primals like Susano. It's just a word that Easterners apply to beings they don't understand the nature of. That they both survived may have been fate, but I don't think any higher powers consciously intended what happened to them.

Actually cause and effect is how the universe works. It takes an act of will to fight it. Doma deserved everything they got. And she was one of many abused. Is just that she got the oportunity to get even. While the others didn't. I hate the hipocrisy of society with a passion. We create monsters and then wonder why they attack us. Well if we diddn't abuse people or tolerate the abuse, or try to withewash it as not occuring there wouldn't be any monsters. I reviewed the Tsukuyomi fight, and I think the detail I found most striking recently is the fact that Yotsuyu witnessed firsthand how capably overpowered Zenos was. Particularly when he single-handedly beat a group of assassins sent to kill him in one of the Stormblood short stories. To her, Zenos is practically the strongest being she knows. And yet, Gosetsu's shade in the phase transition was able to not only stagger and push him back, which stopped his strike completely, but said shade even managed to hold him there, and overpowered Zenos-albeit with some help. If that isn't her having a change of heart about her life and what was true for her, I don't know what is

What makes her story so sad isn't that Doma actively attempted to hurt her. It's that the people just passively let her suffering continue. It's a theme that was a big focus at the start of the Doma section of STB, and you see how it reached far back for decades. Nobody thought to reach out to her, to pull her out of her shitty circumstances. Her parents didn't care, her brother didn't care, her husband didn't care, her proprietor didn't care, her clients didn't care, and when she decided she'd had enough the people of Doma declared her a monster. They weren't there to help an innocent girl suffering alone, and then they were all too eager to call her horrid things after their passivity made her what she became. I think this is why Hien's promise to Gosetsu carries so much more weight than it initially appears. He's not just saying "I'll repair Doma after it was damaged by the Empire." What he's really trying to get across is "I'll make Doma a place where we won't repeat the tragedy of Tsuyu again."

Westward lies bleed t'ward the east. 西の虚栄が 東へと流れ込む (The vanity of the west flows into the east.) Wayward daughter, step into the night 価値なき娘よ 夜闇へと踏み入れたまえ (Worthless daughter, you shall step into the darkness of the night.) According to the songwriter, the Japanese portion of the lyrics represent the voice of she who has become Tsukuyomi, while the English portion features the voices of those who have restrained her (represented with the fiercer tone in the male chorus). Throughout the entire song, the structure of the song goes back and forth between the two voices singing to one another. In a story of revolution and liberation, she also fought to try and release herself, which was included as the final line of the song. We hope you enjoyed this insight into the storytelling of Stormblood through song! Perhaps using these lyrics, we can all better understand the perspective of this wayward daughter of Doma. Yotsuyu deserved her death, but Tsuyu didn't. Tsuyu was basically another reality of what Yotsuyu could have become if she wasn't abused by every single person in her life. I'm still inclined to believe it was Tsuyu we killed. Reliving memories is not the same as experiencing them. I feel like she decided to play the villain so people would feel at peace with her death. And yet, it felt so awful. The animation of that fight made it so much more harder to cope. I believe Tsuyu should have had a chance to live for Yotsuyu that couldn't.

Major spoiler about Yotsuyu, i just need to get this off my chest. This is what i think of Yotsuyu, It is common knowledge the WOL has fell countless primals and Asahi showing up before she was about to kill herself gave her a chance to play along with him, she knew she is going to be defeated by the WOL, which will provide the opportunity for Asahi to get careless so she can kill him and get the vengeance she wanted so badly. Her acting all evil just before the last fight was just part of her self destructive plan to goat the WOL into defeating her Yotsuyu's true nature is a kind hearted person, this is evident when she lost all her memories. She even wanted to kill herself when she regained her memories realizing she doesn't deserve kindness for her evil acts. Her evil deeds stems from an unfortunate product surrounding her upbringing and circumstances. She is only evil because she was seething with hatred and wanting vengeance but not getting it. Years of mistreatment has turn her into a spiteful witch that just wants the world to burn at how harshly it treated her. At the end of her short life at least she finally experienced kindness towards her and understand what it feels like to have someone who actually cares for her. Yotsuyu is a really well written character, in a bittersweet story.

100% agreed and basically how I explained it (though not as well said here lol) to my party member who was confused about her "turning back" evil once she recovered her memories, this was an elaborate suicide characterized by how mentally shattered she became through back-to-back-to-back traumas I don't really care for the narrative structure of SB overall but Yotsuyu always kept me hooked along

I started ff14 lately and reached the patches of stormblood. This si one of the most beautiful and saddest primal fights I experienced (up to this point). We had a chance to peek into her mind and Gosetsu was standing tall protecting her. In one of the Japanese Samurai novels, there was a story about one fallen lord. He never felt connected to his subjects and when he lost (he is Mitsunari Ishida and Ieyasu Tokugawa beat him fyi) he was just cursing everything partly because he was never loved by anyone. Then one farmer gave him a persimmon (the same one as Yotssuyu fetched for Gosetsu) and then the lord realized he was loved at least by someone, felt peace and died in peace. I think Yotsuyu, when she committed too many crimes, killed herself by fighting the warrior of light. But Gosetsu gave her the peaceful times she can die. She died as Tsuyu and not Yotsuyu, thinking about the persimmon. I love ff14 so much. Just arr, hw and sb already gave me more awesome time than any media (books, moveis and what not) gave me in my near half a century life.

So far she's written the Coerthas section of 2.0, 3.2 + 3.4 MSQs, the Doman half of Stormblood, the Crystal Tower arc, Omega quests, and DRK/ROG quests. another hint that Yotsuyu was making her final play was the spider lilies. The red spider lily is a symbol for death and inevitable endings in Japanese folklore, she knew she was going to die and wanted the WoL to grant her that. She just wanted to go out on her own terms, and what better way to do that then to make them hate you, to spew venom the way she so easily did before. But you can tell that she half heartedly means them now, it's less vitriolic and more... heartbreaking. Proud until the end, for better or worse.

Gotta Admit the most interesting part of the spider lilies phase is not only the meaning of the spider lily but as pretty and creepy as the flowers are....they are still considered a pest. In some ways you can say that she was seen as a pest, an annoyance to many, a hindrance to all...never truly loved for her beauty a creature meant to die along and unloved. Tho the meaning of spider lily is abandonment, longing, and many more just the mere thought of how they can be viewed as a pest makes the fight even sadder.
