Eagles Bay: the original Angry Birds. Yeah, the game kinda glitched out and I had three globes circling me at one point. I liked the way it looked, so I kept it in, but only two globes will go through the teleport ring at a time.

18:44 Now I've thought about this in the past and my conclusion is that the Vortex drones were double-crossing the Queen and sacrificing themselves to give Ecco the chance to get the final two globes. My theory is that they may have actually preferred Earth's waters and were aware that the Queen was going to wreck the planet if she wasn't stopped (which we see is exactly what has happened when Ecco travels to the dark Vortex future). It's entirely possible those two Vortex drones were on their own 'time-trip' to ensure that Ecco was successful.

@11:40; there is a mistake in that cut scene. The ceiling above the Asterite is supposed to be flat.

One of the best games I've played along with the original. Didn't played it back then but a few years ago I got a bunch of Genesis carts very cheap and both games were there. Those are challenging but there's something that pushes you to try it one more time to beat it. The dark sci-fi tone of the game and the music is something that I instantly loved. Very unique. Great review!!!

I love both Ecco games, especially this one. I haven’t played them in years but I’ll watch some videos about them every now and then. The soundtrack and vibe and world is just so sci-fi and still unsettling for me. Great video!

As a kid I used to wonder what happened to Echo after he used the time machine but now I realize he probably went to that happy future that we spent the middle portion of the gaming. He probably liked that future where all the oceans are connected through tubes of water and dolphins are psychic. Hell I love that future.
@joelpeterson499711 ай бұрын
Ecco goes back into time to setup the events of the first two games. He meets the Atlantians to warn them about the Vortex, and then leads himself from the past in the Tides of Time
@foxdavani409111 ай бұрын
Ya that’s totally possible . Shame we never got a third game.@@joelpeterson4997
@foxdavani4091 Жыл бұрын
Maybe those two Vortexx, who brought echo to the future, maybe they wanted to prevent the Vortexx future. You could tell that that was a storyline from the original determinator. Where the hero comes back in time, even though he knows that he may not survive. All they did was reverse the terminator, and have the heroes go back in time, but then back to the future.

All 3 mainline Ecco games were great, it's too bad this series died with Dreamcast because they could really do something cool with it nowadays.
@samfrito5 ай бұрын
Great review. I love the look of both Ecco games on Genesis. Something about a dolphin getting around and seeing fit to save the planet is way ahead of its time in the 16 bit time. If they made a new one id prefer them to keep this perspective and not do the Dreamcast 3d. I know Sega has plans for revitalization of earlier franchises, but a new Ecco would be great.
@JanelleWaz5 ай бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the review! I do have a review of Defender of the Future (though the PS2 version, not the Dreamcast version) if you're interested. I did like the 3D perspective of the PS2/Dreamcast version, but for a new Ecco game, I'd be fine with the 2D version.

I have an overly contrived head-canon theory that the story of the second game contains a falsehood about the time travel. I think the asterite is just wrong when it tells Ecco that the timeline is split. The first game pretty clearly shows Ecco traveling without changing history. The asterite is already missing its globe before ecco travels the first time, indicating a closed loop. I also think the second time he travels, Ecco is once again completing a closed loop. Which would mean, at the beginning of the game when Ecco avoids the vortex, theres already a future Ecco getting sucked up & when you travel back to be sucked up with your pod, past Ecco is also there, avoiding the succ swirl. In the second game, i believe that the "good future" is the actual future and the "dark future" is a just a completely separate parallel universe & not an alternate future. The Vortex queen somehow had access to a parallel world where earth was conquered & stashed the last asterite globe there as the best spot to hide/protect it. But she couldn't stay there permanently since there was presumably another vortex queen ruling it. Idk if, under these hypothetical conditions, the asterite would have been lying to Ecco about the split or just simply mistaken.

@@JanelleWaz hey, if it's less cheap with the bogus placement of the bogus enemies, then that's already a plus for me. Heck, the fact you don't have to manually put in the password every time you die is already great!
@JanelleWaz Жыл бұрын
@@Mike14264 If it helps, you don't have to put the password in the first game every time (that game is already tough enough as it is). The first game admittedly has a better storyline, but the last two levels are stupidly hard.

Avgn really hated this game.(James Rolfe)
@Mike14264 Жыл бұрын
Well, first off, he actually looked at the first game, not this one, which has quite a bunch more issues that this one did fix. Second, sometimes James exaggerates his anger and hatred for games when he's performing as the Nerd. In his words, the Nerd is a loser that gets ticked off easily and over the tiniest flaws that could also be a result of him playing the game wrong (Lester the Unlikely is the most notable example to me), and James doesn't necessarily share the same opinions as the character. For instance, James actually does kinda like Friday the 13th for the NES! Crazy, right? I dunno about his actual opinion on the first Ecco the Dolphin tho, so take this with a grain of salt or two.
