I played SF2 hundreds of hours back in 1991. I was 14 years old and bought it with my Paper Route money and I played it with my brother (1yr younger than me) every single day. I got so good at it with the SNES controller I could never get used to playing it with the arcade joystick. I had a special way of holding the snes controller where I hit the right shoulder button with the palm of my hand and the left shoulder button with my index finger. That game ushered in a new game genre that would own the videogame market for the next 8 years. I loved them so much I bought dozens of different fighting games all the way through the PS1/Dreamcast era.

I got to know Andy O'Neil in the last few years of his life. One of the most unique, interesting, and smart guys I've ever known. He told me so many horror stories from Titanfall. It was a very stressful project for all those involved, which was heightened by the fact that Bluepoint hadn't quite made a name for themselves yet, so every project could be their last if they failed. It turned out a technical marvel, but I wouldn't wish a project like that on anyone. Andy never really recovered from the burnout it caused, may he rest in peace.

@SlartiMarvinbartfastАй бұрын
All down to the chance of Nintendo spoiling the fun as usual - Valve requested that the Portal port be removed but that was only because the port uses libraries owned by Nintendo (in this case Nintendo's LibUltra, the SDK that's used for developing N64 games). So not Valve's fault, just them not wanting to take the risk of invoking the wrath of the big N.

I just came across this video and wanted to reach out about something I learned about Resident Evil 2 on N64. Many years ago a member of the dev team at Angel Studios (it might have been the creative director) wrote an article on the N64 version development for Gamasutra. I frequented that site daily back then, saw the article and contact info was listed for the developer. So I reached out and he told me via email that just as the team was finishing up development of the N64 version the quality was just as good as the PS1 version full stop. But there was 1MB of data that absolutely had to go into the game. That caused the quality to be degraded to fit that data on the cart. The dev was very clear that if it wasn't for that 1MB of data the Resident Evil 2 port for N64 would have been even more mind blowing. It's amazing to think that the N64 version could have been the best version of Resident Evil 2 for that particular console generation. I still have that email somewhere buried in my account. Looks like it's time to find it even though it was so long ago. Anyways, thanks for the video. Awesome stuff. Brought back some great memories.

Nice and thank you. I had a GB but no GBA and no GBC. I was already an adult at the time and I just got jaded with what I saw in the gaming industry. I quit gaming entirely when Fallout Tactics was released. (I pre-paid for it and the version I got was unplayable due to bugs. I had to wait for patches to be released to even win the game.) I'm actually quite a fan of Street Fighter and have an original cabinet in my game room. I'm just now (I'm pretty old) getting into retro gaming as a hobby. I already own a MAME console and the above mentioned SF cabinet. Those are mostly decorations in my game room, which is where I usually play pool and have a bar. Other people have played them far more than I have. Anyhow, I paused your video and played SF Alpha 3 as a GBA title. I only played it on a cheap handheld. I'll eventually play it on a much larger screen. One of the reasons I've delved into the hobby is because I find that Linux is generally well supported. I'm a long-term Linux user, exclusively but not fanatically. I'm not an opensource zealot or anything like that. I just like Linux.
