Yes, it is possible. It is an open area but going in the tea fields is not allowed here. Some areas, they offer tea picking tours for a fee.

@@hoderik86 you must go and visit Uji City. This small city is also part of Kyoto Prefecture. There are a lot of cafés and restaurants serving matcha of all sorts. You may search about the city before going.
