The reason why it was called THE Ten O'Clock News was because it was so dominant in the ratings. Between the late 70s to mid 80s no other station in town was even close.

I sure do miss commercials that were classy, like that Calvin Klein ad. And YES, I was glued to the TV, watching the final episode of MASH.

When Hawkeye looked down and saw... ..."Goodbye" spelled out in stones by BJ, the whole country teared up.

@@CoopyKat Yes my friend, I'm much the same. I've been muting commercials for about 20 years, because they seem so stupid. (I won't go into politics & society issues) My Mom died 4 years ago & I'm completely alone now. I don't really "watch" TV anymore, I just keep the TV on for "company". Given my heath issues, I doubt I'll be around much longer. I hope things are better for you.

@The Museum of Classic Chicago Television, if I recall vividly, though on another network ABC News Nightline also focused on the last MASH that night. Among Ted Koppel's guests on that topic we're Larry Linville, Loretta Swit, and ABC News correspondent Geraldo Rivera

Just 3 years later, the Challenger Space Shuttle disaster would occur on Jan 28, 1986 caused by O-ring failure. Seven astronauts perished. Sad.

That intellivision commercial was pretty cool in early 1983. I guess the video game crash happened later in 1983 then.

After MASH was a HUGE mistake for all of the parties involved. CBS should never have picked it up.

Children being murdered. Horrible! Even sadder is that one of the children called home to ask what time to be home instead of asking the parents to pick him up or have his friends parents take him home! That is what we did growing up! I blame the parents here. *Get off the couch and pick up your children!* Sad!
