Respect. Much respect for Ms. Barbara Acklin. Her songs were and are masterpieces. When I think back to my younger days in Brooklyn, her music is there, coming out of the radio on WBLS; in Tompkins Park on a sunny day; out of a record store speaker as I walked by; or being danced to by me and some fine sister at a party. Thank you WBPTV for making this documentary.

Also, Barbara Acklin's music could be heard on WWRL. That is where the hits took place over the airwaves. I liked WBLS, since it is an FM radio station. I am appalled to learn that Barbara Acklin caught pneumonia and then died.

Brunswick began as a record label in the 1920’s for their early jazz music, a phonograph company for their windup machines including the Panatrope models, and finally, a company that made sporting equipment including bowling and pool tables. In the 1950’s, Brunswick was a subsidiary of Decca Records where they did the Lennon Sisters, the Crickets featuring Buddy Holly and the one that came to the label, Jackie Wilson. By the late 1960’s, MCA purchased Decca along with Coral and Kapp labels except the label that MCA never bought was Brunswick, so Brunswick did want to buy MCA, so the label became as independent right into the 1970’s.
