Congratulations to the students. After all that work, it's nice to get a gesture recognizance.

There better have been a third envelope with $500 in there because that's what the taxes will be that they owe on the gift they received.

Are you an idiot? When you give a gift it gives you joy. You see that joy on their face. That’s the point.

Let's see, this man is worth 5.4 billion dollars. He gives 1k to 1200 students is 120,000. 120,000 of 5.4 billion is 0.0022% of his money, dare we say, "drop in the bucket". Now typical wage earner that is paying for college is we will say 80k (generous, IMHO), to obtain a 1k is like 1.25% of their yearly income. If those folks were to give the same percentage gift out from what they make a year as a student to be like the giving billionaire of 0.0022% of his income. It would be 1.76. I say the students only have to give out 1.76 and not 500 of the thousand he gave to them. They should not have to be any more generous than he was. I find it funny for a billionaire who owns companies that fight against the minium wage to speak of giving to be very hypocritical.

$1000 x 1200 students = $1.2million and he is trying to give them a chance to bless someone else, not pay for all their debts. He also gave over $73 million to other charities in a year. So this is not all he does.
