I know how big the hit is on emergence. But I’m not losing 70%. I’m hard core no till, plant green, zero input, not even “organic” ones, unless I can source it on farm. The reality is, I grow 120-140 bushel corn. There is a lot stacked against me, but I do what I can to offset it. Such as drip irrigation, low to no weed pressure via the mulching effect, and row spacing. The biggest thing I do, is hit a corn crop with organic N derived from nitric acid extraction from the liquid portion of cow manure. I might try some secondary, or two stage closing set ups. Anything is worth a try. But I’m doubtful it will slide through a standing cover crop without it tangling up. Not that it should, I can’t expect anyone to invent something for 4/10 of 1% of producers.

What would I do differently to start over? I would abandon the disc coulters and move on to the chisel-shaped ones. They work fine without groove closure devices. 😁

In your video showing the difference in the closing systems furrow force has the furrow jet as well so you’re not showing apples to apples. I believe my furrow jet plus spiked wheels do just as good of job as your furrow force for a whole lot less money
