Although Otto Warmbier was finally reunited with his family after 17 months of imprisonment in North Korea, doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center say he sustained an 'extensive loss of brain tissue' while overseas and has little or not conscious awareness of the world around him. The United States still has no reliable information about what really happened to him in North Korea.

It's only with the very last question that we start to touch on sth interesting. All the reporters wasted their questions asking the same thing over and over. Nobody asked about his teeth or scar on his foot. The doctors just mentioned at the very end there were what looked like marks from being hooked up to an IV. No questions about whether he had a lot of muscle degeneration from lying down for long periods of time. Even if the nk didn't beat him, there are other forms of torture that don't leave marks - sleep deprivation, pills, injections, electric shock, water boarding, exposure to cold..... I can understand that after the ordeal their son (and they) have been through, his parents would rather know he's buried in one piece rather than dissected during an autopsy. But it means there's no chance at knowing more. I always felt like there was sth going on w this case though. The court trial was so ridiculous I actually lol. The whole thing was scripted, obviously written by an ESL speaker. And the things he "confessed" to were hilarious - like the CIA telling him to bring his "quietest shoes" to North Korea because they were "the best shoes for sneaking" LOL And bs about how the US gov recruited and trained Otto with the express purpose of stealing this f-ing poster. And not because the poster had sensitive information on it, but because by stealing it, the US hoped to "destroy the people's faith in the Party." LOLLL You can tell the north koreans don't get out much. Preferring to sit there and spin self-gratifying conspiracy theories.

Jesus Christ - these news people are NOT ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS. Did Otto receive shock treatment? What the hell happened to his right foot? Why are all his lower teeth so messed up? WHERE THE HELL ARE THE PHOTOS???? I think the parents should release BEFORE and AFTER autopsy photos of this young man. What did he weigh before he left on his trip and now what does he weigh. Tremendous weight loss can speak volumes about how a prisoner was treated. Even this assemble panel of doctor-experts is politically motivated, a gran white washing event to downplay the horrors inflicted on Otto Warmbier to assuage the family members who have already suffered enough, and perhaps, the public from demanding justice for this heinous act against an innocent U.S. citizen.

But not doing autopsy they cant say whether it was botullism DONT GET ME WRONG WE DAM SUR KNO THEY FRIGGIN MURDERED THIS YOUNG MAN. its upsetting. I can't believe some of the comments I am seeing here. This kid was 22 years old. How many people can say that they made the best choices in life at 22? He made a mistake stealing that poster, but his punishment and suffering certainly do not fit the crime. Also, Otto was held as a political detainee. The North Korean's were trying to justify their brutality by saying this young man was an agent if the US government.

True, but even then there isnt any evidence proving he even took the poster except supposedly a grainy video that could be anyone showing a man who looks a bit shorter than otto removing a poster form a wall. Otto was arrested 3 days before north korea claimed they had set off their hydrogen bomb and they could've seen Otto as a possible bargaining chip, framed him and trumped up some charges against him. Tony Kim and Kim Hyuk-Song were arrested during a series of north korean missile tests between April and june 2017. Kim Don-Chul was arrested while north korea was under pressure from the UN regarding human rights violations. So clearly most detentions come when north korea is experiencing international tension or sanctions. We don't know the truth, and obviously, regardless, he didn't deserve that cruel and unusual excessive sentence or possible torture. They definitely coerced him into that poorly and awkwardly worded "confession" and his "trial" was clearly a mock trial for show.

It's been 4 years and I keep watching videos about Otto Warmbier. NK obviously has severely inadequate medical care, but if you think about it, there's a reason it's that way in the first place. The regime in charge has no empathy, only pride. They take every spare resource for themselves, and they deprive their people of what they need. This is common practice. Yeonmi Park, a NK defector and human rights activist, said, that surgeries are done without anesthesia. This is for everybody who isn't in the rich elite circle. People are killed all the time in NK for no reason at all, or for simple mistakes or associations with those who offend the regime. Their leader kills family members for his own purposes. Think about it. To kill an outsider like an American is less than nothing to them. If this country is ever to be improved, the whole regime needs to be abolished. One leader dying wouldn't solve anything. The same thing has been going on for a long time. The father and grandfather of their current leader did the same kinds of things their currant leader is doing. It would be nice if this can be stopped before the next leader takes over, but once again, the whole system has to be removed, or else nothing will change. The whole country of NK is a cult, plain and simple, and they would need to be reprogramed and deprogrammed from their whole belief system. They're forced to worship their leader like a God. They even sing all their songs in worship to their leader. Someday they will be rescued, I just hope it's sooner rather than later.

It was clear to me when i first watched the NK army officers dragging Otto around in hand cuffs that He was limp and had been abused already at that point. The 35 minute "confession" was also very disturbing. This young man ,I believe, at this point did not even know what his truth was. That is was happens when people are tortured. He had lost insight into what was happening and was in survival mode. I reckon that after they had broken him and made him confess to the lies that they manufactured, and people will admit to anything if put under enough pressure. When Otto realised that He was not going home and had no forgiveness from the NKs, I think he possibly gained some strength and eventually let em have exactly how He really felt so they just abused him and tortured him back into submission. I think that Otto must have been a very strong young man just to survive for as long as He did. I think that Ottos' Family are a testament to what He was like and He did not give up until He was back home with them. RIP Tiger Boy Otto 1994-2017

+mmpri Have you seen the footage? It proves nothing. If anything, it was very suspicious. What kind of a security video is so unclear you can only see a shadow of a person and features no time stamp? You can not tell who the person removing the placard(which is huge btw, where would Otto hide it?) is because it's completely unclear. The shadow doesn't even take it, just drops it on the floor. Not to mention the electric outs common in NK making such a video even existing highly unlikely. He confessed after being tortured and coerced. He was obviously under great stress. The confession was absurd and the things he said were confirmed to be untrue, not confirmed. Where is said confirmation published exactly? Nowhere. Again, propaganda. Everybody keeps repeating "there's footage" and it's all nonsense. The timeline doesn't add up either. He was seized weeks before the allegations were even announced and months before the "stealing" footage was shown by NK. Plenty of time to make shit up. You people are so gullible and then you wonder why somebody else would go to NK...

@krollpeter
@krollpeter 6 жыл бұрын
Phoebe, they asked about the experience if and how a person with this kind of brain damage could recover. That's not rude in my eyes. As we had to find out a short while later, the answer is: A recovery is impossible. They could have given this general answer but they did not want to. If you listen carefully, they said that this sort of brain damage in a young person can occur from extensive trauma, or from an intoxication. They also said repeatedly, no evidence for any serious form of physical impact is detectable on skin and bones, that would not be in line with medical procedures. I thought why is it so hard for people nowadays to conclude 1+ 1? What was said should be telling everyone, either Mr. Warmbier had been administered something toxic. But then, if the intention was killing him, why should they keep him alive for so long afterwards? Or, he had attempted suicide.
@Cindy-wk9io
@Cindy-wk9io 6 жыл бұрын
+Phoebe Beach Agreed, although all 3 questions are not directly asking about the 'private matters', the media was trying to push for the answers by indirectly asking something like 'how long do you expect him to go on'. Its very rude to the family who is involved and irritating to hear the same thing 3 times like they did not hear the doctors saying they want to keep it private. Still, those questions are not meant for the concern, the medias are there for the scoop or else they would not bother.

But not doing autopsy they cant say whether it was botullism DONT GET ME WRONG WE DAM SUR KNO THEY FRIGGIN MURDERED THIS YOUNG MAN. its upsetting. And now any proof we culdve gotten and smacked down to force our gov to do more pressure wulvdve helped. Especially since pres trump jus said he know kim didnt do it.

The reports that Mr. Warmbier was blind, deaf and unresponsive suggest that he might have been affected by PTSD. If you read articles about soldiers who became blind, deaf and in an "awake coma", unable to speak or walk under their own power, you will find that the doctors sought answers about the cause of these bizarre conditions. It manifested in soldiers after heavy bombardment, after witnessing gruesome deaths on the front lines, or after long periods in POW camps/facilities.

I personally think Otto Wambier's current condition is likely the result of a botched suicide attempt. If you think about it, the theory that the North Koreans tortured Wambier to the state that he is now in (brain damage, coma etc) does not really fit with the usual MO of the North Koreans when it comes to dealing with American prisoners. Past American detainees in North Korea (who have been released) report of rough treatment, but not systematic torture to the point of brain damage. After all, North Korea usually detains American tourists to use as bargaining chips for "free aid" (food, money etc). I personally think the North Koreans did just enough to keep Wambier "alive" long enough to ship him back to the USA so that he would not "die" on North Korean soil.
@duxmealux281
@duxmealux281 7 жыл бұрын
If it was a botched suicide the north Koreans would of said it was a botched suicide, nothing to cover up in that scenario, but they messed up and said bacteria and sleeping pills, turned out not true. Also who the hell tries to commit suicide for only 15 years, maybe if its 30 years. Another thing the doctors figured it happened a couple of weeks after trial, when there would be still hope for US to appeal.

it was a form of torture where they frequently, over many times and spaced out to last without immediate death,by starving the brain of oxygen (a horrible process and for the victim, suffocation is a fear of anyone...so that's why it's so effective ), anyway...usually done while arms ,legs,etc...tied down on bed,or etc...with a plastic bag,while not to show any signs of doing so. but, bank that's what they did,and how.

So many questions left unanswered like the timing of his death within days of his release. Did North Korea anticipate his death and did the doctors in the U.S. understood that he was dying soon but the family did not want the public to know? The more important question the journalists could have asked is of forensic pathology autopsy could reveal more evidence than MRI and CAT scans can?

FF to 3:54. Non-responsive. The walking dead. NoKo released him so that they weren't responsible for having an American citizen (a tourist) die on their soil. Sad and disgusting. I wonder if we'll ever learn what the hell they did to Otto while in prison. I think they pulled his lower teeth out and pushed them back in; repeated beatings; and stabbed him repeatedly in one foot and left this as an open, festering wound. I don't think they injected him with Botulism ... he sustained this as a consequence of lack of decent medical care. Mr. Warmbier would've been better off in a work camp than being detained in prison. They want isolation so badly - we'll gladly give it to them by banning any foreigners from visiting this corrupt regime state, but outlaw any workers from leaving that dark country.

Methanol could have caused it too,...it was used to interrogate people in the past in low doses, but only made them more susceptible to suggestions, so not really effective as a tool for interrogation,...deadly too if your dose is to high and that line is childishly easy to cross because of the low threshold/dose that can happen at. It inebriates the person (think of drunkenness) and can severly damage the brain causing the person to stop breathing and ultimately die, it causes scar tissue on the brain as a dead giveaway that this might have been used.
