Its weird to watch a multi time world champion team lose like we've seen the past 2 years. But we have to remember that as young as this sport is, it has exploded with new talent and skill. So its less that they aren't as good as they once were, more that they are getting more new competition and the tournaments in general will keep seeing new blood.

Teams can be from the UK and have other nationals in it much like soccer players at Chelsea FC :) United also played at WCT5 but with new players, the change was made just a few weeks prior to the event so that may explain why Charles & Clément couldn't assemble another team.

I have theory that a chaser with a 7ft reach and all the other necessary skills would be unevadable by anyone in this quad for 20s. Then the final meta of this quad played at the highest level would be teams stacked with long armed super chasers and 1 normal to small sized evader specialist for the sudden death tiebreaker. So we'll likely see the quad continued to be modified to add EV with more and more bars making dive throughs harder and possibly vision obstruction.

Is there an advantage for the team that evades first? Would it be more fair if it was 8 rounds where Team 1 evades first then reset and then 8 rounds where Team 2 evades first.
@Max_H2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the first evader is fresh and well rested, unlike the rest who will need to get a tag to be evader. Your idea gives too much power to the evader. The course would need to be redesigned to lower EQ, as evaders wouldn't be getting worn down over multiple evasions. This is how BYFC is structured though. It's fine for 1v1 format. When we (Apex) did our ranked Elo back yard leaderboard, we found that the evasion rate between similarly ranked players was much closer to 50/50 (but still slight advantage to chaser). This was also before they added the FA ramp and FA bar on the Mountain. The current format also adds the fun of the Rock Paper Scissors matches to determine who evades first. It's super hype for the players. I wouldn't want to take that away either.
@VictorInNYC2 жыл бұрын
@@Max_H I think the evader already has too much power going first. Since it requires 2 rounds for the other team to catch up to 1 successful evasion (tag, then get the evasion themselves) Image if it was tied going into round 15. The team that evaded first in round 1 is evading in round 15. If they get the evasion, the other team loses immediately since it requires 2 rounds to catch up to 1 evasion. In that scenario, the team that evades first has that advantage. By splitting it into two sets of 8 rounds, both teams get that advantage by getting to evade in the first round. I'm not sure if I'm making sense but it's good to hear from athlete like yourself and get their insights on things. Thanks!
@Max_H2 жыл бұрын
@@VictorInNYC Oh I see what you're saying now. I didn't read properly the first time. Yeah that would be interesting. I do like that idea, but it would also make the game more complicated. Part of the beauty of this sport is how quickly the rules can be explained. It helps spectators immediately engage and understand what's going on, even their first time watching, unlike US football, baseball, hockey, etc. You could also give the first chasing team a rest of some sort before one of their evasion attempts, since that's the main advantage. If it becomes a significant enough issue, the rules may change.

Umm the 17 year old clearly tagged him why did the judges score it as an evasion when they have slow motion? Did they even zoom it in? I could clearly see his fingers tap the calf and he reactively drew his leg up. Bad judging guys.
@Max_H2 жыл бұрын
Or he knew where his chaser was and got his leg out of the way. I agree with the Evasion call. Best thing to do as a Chaser is continue the chase until you get a more clear tag, then call DTR at the end of you didn't get a second tag. I have little sympathy for unclear tags and early stop. You never want to waste too much energy, but refs have a tough job.
@monarch16512 жыл бұрын
@@Max_H dude. Slow the video down and zoom It in. The fingers clearly hit his leg. That's literally the most basic feature of video editing software. They should and are able to instantly do that.
@Max_H2 жыл бұрын
@@monarch1651 We're talking about the evasion given to Stek after the DTR, right? I see a miss. It's a tough call, because barely grazing the clothing is supposed to count as a tag, and you won't see any physical reaction from such light contact. It's as if Alex Stek perfectly whipped his leg around that reach. I'm not convinced. The same thing happened in my evade against Fata Morgana. A tag was claimed, I truly felt nothing, the most it could have been was a finger grazing the loose part of my shirt. I almost felt bad taking the point, but chasers need to work a bit harder to make the tag apparent. Refs make mistakes too, I get it. Best not to leave it up to them. Carry on, get a secure tag, don't feel bad if you lose in a DTR. This instance is hardly the worst DTR call. Some day we'll have even better cameras and we'll have much more conclusive calls.
