THANK YOU to all who have pointed out that I did, in fact, put the wrong letter grade on the screen compared to what I said out loud. It's what I get for copying and pasting from other projects.

Brian, when you next review an older ppv, could you tell us which one because those fans with more time might be interested in watching the entire event then hearing your analysis. This is usually what I do when you review WWE's most recent show. I watch it then hear your thoughts.

In WCW's defense regarding James Brown, I work in the music industry, and I've always heard that James Brown is/was one of the most unreliable people to work with. He basically did things on a whim, and would often no-show events he lost interest in, or think wouldn't get him enough of a payday. Probably why they didn't PROMISE James Brown.

I know that this video is old but I was fortunate enough to be helping Demon Dale Torborg with his booth at Wrestlecade and someone asked him why Tony Schiavone "killed" the blood spitting thing. Turns out it was pressure by standard's and practices who were concerned about sponsorships and felt he was spitting too much blood out as part of his entrance so they made Tony say that it was food coloring to appease advertisers. Personally I think that it was a major misstep on their part to do that since what band on Earth has been more marketable than KISS?! And what advertiser would actually think that the 6'6 guy who comes out of a giant metal casket with flames in KISS makeup with bright red eyes would actually spit up real blood anyway? In addition, Dale and Asya were both total sweethearts in person and it was an absolute pleasure to have been helping them for the day.

Van from the future here (May 28, 2022). I discovered your channel about 3 weeks ago. I've gone on a serious Wrestling With Wregret tear. Today I saw this, the first the series. When you talked about Ric Flair and then hulk Hogan, I thought man the times you could watch a match with Ric Flair and say wow what an awesome match are nearly innumerable. The times you could say that about a hulk Hogan match could fit on one hand. Both hands if I'm being super super generous. Anyway, keep up the good work!

John Crum I agree but my reason is because I want to go through the Nitros in chronological order. It's just really hard to pay attention to the storylines when you can't see the stuff that happened on Thunder.
@MrTheMighty
@MrTheMighty 7 жыл бұрын
AntiPatriotsFan That's certainly true as well. I should say that my wish for Thunder to be added to the Network BEGAN with a desire to re-live some of the more infamous segments. Honestly, it's just because WCW was the brand I was first introduced to and the reason I became a lifelong wrestling fan, and it would be nice to have all the stuff from those formative years available to see again.

I still don't understand how WCW fucked up Tank Abbott so bad. The dude hurt his reputation by fighting too long after his prime (come to think of it, so did Ken Shamrock), but win or lose, those early UFC fights were just wild barnburners with arguably the stiffest punching anyone had ever seen before Francis Nganou. Just the most terrifying knockouts on the planet. That's how you book Tank Abbott. Nothing longer than 10 minutes and nothing but wild brawls ending with guys getting decapitated by huge lefts.

As forgettable as Sulivan’s time as Booker was. WCW would probably still be alive today as you could call this period boring, but steady. They clearly had Sid positioned at the top. Hogan and Sid were heading for a showdown and fans still liked Hogan surprisingly. They wouldn’t have beaten WWE by any stretch, but I think they would have treaded water at least, similar to 1995 and 1996 before the NWO

I think it was in Bobby Heenan interview, where it was said WCW didn't want James Brown's appearance to be promoted, so as not to ruin the surprise. WCW hired a celebrity- nay a music legend- to boost their show, but only AFTER it's happened. Nothing could of saved that promotion.

Rasscal2019Gaming that PPV kills me. It had all the potential to be something special and had awesome promotion art. It was ECW's first real independent PPV since relaunch. What hurt it was not enough story development, coming of like a week after another PPV, and a think Vince McMahon was fighting with Heyman over direction of the promotion. CM Punk was handpicked by Heyman to win the belt, Vince overrided that decision. Heyman saw punks potential 5 years before Vince...tells you something about the man. He may not be an accounting guru but he has an eye for talent and storytelling

He should do a compare and contrast between Bash at the Beach 1996 (the PPV that put WCW on the map with Hulk Hogan turning heel and forming the NWO. The overall PPV is really awesome. Some of the matches like Psychosis VS Rey Mysterio are good) and Bash at the Beach 2000 (The PPV that nuclear blasted WCW OFF the map and put the final nail in the coffin. The drama between Hogan and Russo (which went off script and resulted in a lawsuit) is crazy

We got the "deadly combination of the two" in WWE where he was Hollywood Hogan, came out to "Voodoo Child", wore feather boas, etc but was wearing the red and yellow.

I talked to Kevin Nash about this before...WCW was afraid to promote james Brown cause he cancelled a few times last minute for stuff they were gonna do with Miller on Nitro. He agreed to do the PPV, but they figured he was gonna bail again.

Holy Christ, Zane. I was at this SuperBrawl. I remember getting tickets to this at the last minute and not having the highest expectations. I had the time of my life, but it wasn't nearly as good a show as the SuperBrawl at the Cow Palace I was also in attendance for where Piper had kayfabe spent something like 40 days and nights in Alcatraz, training. Thank you for the killer review!

I remember having trouble believing Sting would turn heel and help evil Hulk Hogan when I first saw this in 2000. Hogan was pure heel from Bash at the Beach 96 until WCW closed.

Not sure if anyone told you, but you put the wrong grade and Steve and Larson are apparently doing this. But seriously, you made another great video. Looking forward to this series and thought maybe a wrestling thread could have one positive comment.

Wrestling went from a climactic era with NWO and the Attitude Era to this crap within a year or two. Really impressive how the entire product (while retaining all the talent) just imploded into sensational nonsense.

Would love to see you review Tuesday in Texas! Just the strangest decision to test out a PPV on a Tuesday like just less than a week after the 1991 Survivor Series! Ended terribly with The Undertaker's title reign ending in the second shortest recognised title reign at the time in some stupid booking. Only good thing coming of it being the 1992 Royal Rumble with Ric Flair winning the gold WOOOOOOOOO!

It was due to Hogan claiming that the Undertaker injured him in that Survivor Series match when he gave him a tombstone piledriver on a chair. Which was subsequently proved to be a load of rubbish.
