Eddie in his biography said He with Rey have tried to replicate that DDT spot, but none of them quite matched this one. He also said they both entered this match with a chip on their shoulder against WCW, with full intention to steal the show. Needless to say they did steal the show.

They were still underneath in WWF, Austin and Foley needed to retire, Rock needed to go be a movie star, Taker needed to reduce his ring time and prolong his career, THEN those guys had their chance by sheer lack of anyone else and STILL everyone was underneath Triple H. People forget that Rey and Eddie were not champions backed 100 percent by the bosses which weighed on both tremendously, and that Jericho had to be a comedy heel after his debut and only became the first undisputed champ as a transitional until Triple H came back. They’re big names now, but even in the WWF/WWE it took a while to embrace those guys and even then it was only some of them.

Hogan VS Piper might have been well received if Hogan god forbid caught Macho Man. Like I could totally see how you can blame Piper too but he wasn’t looking, and at least checked to see if Mach was alive lmao. Seriously though I pop at the thought of Hogan and Piper tumbling down from Macho Man diving from the cage but what we got is exactly what you said, cringe.

I'm not one to defend Hogan but you can actually see the cage give way when Randy pushes down on it to jump (20:44), so he clearly didn't make it as far as Hogan was expecting. WCW decided to sacrifice the safety of every wrestler involved just to save a little money.. imagine if Randy would've had a career ending injury because of a flimsy cage.. would have been a lawsuit for sure

Oh yeah absolutely. Thing about Mania 35 is that everyone was very tired after watching the real main event that they no energy left for the rest of the show. You had Joe vs. Mysterio and Balor vs. Lashley for the US and IC titles which together went for 5 minutes and obviously Angle's retirement match, 6 fucking minutes long that was... Triple vs. Batista in a 25 minute borefest, Reigns vs. McIntyre which was meh and of course the botched ending of the main event. A shame really, you're totally right, it was great to see them break it up into to 2 nights this year.
