On thing I forgot to mention. is On a coolant hose you should only use Coolant to lubricate the hose. If you use a product like WD40 or petroleum product it may brake down the rubber. That rubber composition is pretty soft and will not last with any petroleum products on it. Same as Vacuum hose. The rubber used on the windows I have found it does not care if WD is on it. but coolant and vacuum hoses definitely only use like products like Soap or coolant.

Damn, I wish I had seen this vid before I had used wd-40 on my coolant hoses. Now I can only hope they dont break down too early and force me to change them again

People usually don't know wd stands for water displacement. My uncles all said it dehydrates after collecting grit, saw skateboards that had it used for bearings in the 90's a lot. I almost never use it as an adult. I also dealt with the ethanol switch over effects on small engine repair. Between rubber and carb bowls/bodies there was a lot of reactions and dilutions occurring.

An old timer once taught me using brake cleaner spray as a lubricant on tight rubber connections. I've used it when installing coolant, vacuum and o-ring style connections. It allows the hose or o-ring to slip on with ease and then evaporates leaving the hose or o-ring snug, Been doing it for 20 plus years with no issues.

I agree with you 100 % Mike. Been using WD for over 50 years. Its 65% kerosene. Much easier on an engine than ether for starting as well. Cheers from B.C. Canada.

Today more than ever rubber hoses are job specific and not one size fits all. Had a recall on the fuel line going from the gas tank to the outboard that was not designed for ethanol and the lining would delaminate clogging the fuel filters. Always check the purpose of the product you're buying. Your advice is spot on.

WD40 is for water displacement and is fish oil based and a lot of uses for it. Silicone is a nightmare on painted surfaces that you later need to work on or repaint. I’ve also used dielectric grease on rubber and I haven’t had any nightmares yet.

dielectric grease is for spark plug boots and they are rubber. almost like anti-seize for rubber. should be fine.

Big mike, LIQUI MOLY silicone spray has a pic of windows rubber as it’s designed for it as they said, for lubricant purposes + protection. Do you recommend it from your experience? I live in the hottest parts of the world Saudi Arabia and in my new car the rubber around the windows are soo dry

Thanks for your tips, have used wd40 cleaning door seals ,cleaning bug's of car after a trip, even windshield, rinse off afterwards seam to work ok .

Mike I enjoyed the video. It was very informative. I need your expertise on VW engines. I am new to the VW world but have worked on V8 for 40 years. I want to build a engine with a bunch of torque to be driven on the street . I know the longer the stroke the more torque. What is your suggestion on bore/stroke and camshaft. Thanks again.

Read that the propellant in a can of silicone spray could be detrimental to rubber. To test spray into a styrofoam cup , if it melts, etc . That means that brand of silicone would not be good for rubber. Only if the silicone doesn't do anything, that brand would be ok for rubber. Though I use 303 Protectant on rubber/ plastic to resist drying out and cracking

Ive been using WD-40 to install the handgrips on my bicycles ,scooters , dirtbikes and motorcycles over 40years and havent had an issue..........Ive been using silicone spray in a can to clean my engines and keep the rubber hoses/belts plus sparkplug wires clean and rejuvenated for over 30 years and never ever had an issue... The WD in WD-40 stands for "Water Displacing"....LOL Do you know what sparkplug wire dryer in a can is made from and from the name the reason of its purpose? FYI Silicone isnt a petroleum based substance look it up as dieelectric grease is used on wires and plastic etc then theres this other silicone based substance they make called VACUUM GREASE and the seals are usually rubber O-rings....LOL.........LOL

yea If you watched the short on installing the boot on the axle. there are a lot of people that are totally misled on this issue. pretty aggravating sometimes. exhausting to reply to the comments. and I dont want the comments to mislead people. Because sometimes they do.

@@tetedur377 Vaseline I dont use it is petrolium. and IDK about using it on a hose or coolant. I have had some hoses that were super hard then I have used some soap on those. On my coolant orings for my radiator spouts I put soap on those too. But nothing petroleum on coolant areas.
