Noted on use of "review" in a sponsored video - obviously had a brain fart that day - will make sure not to use that going forwards! Three weeks on, I'm still in love with this drive and planning for it to become my main man for capture events and working away if we ever get to leave the house again.

Update, just bought one. I have been needing a hard drive for my consoles for a while. Thanks for the suggestion, even if it was because of an ad

I really enjoyed this review and especially its depth of testing and simplicity in presentation! I’ve been eyeing one of these for a while and might happen to be even more inclined now. Great review!

it has a micro usb connector, so therefor it is not acceptable in 2020

I agree but if your just using it to increase xbox storage this is all you need and you get alot of storage for the price. I paid 80 bucks for 4 TB.

I've been thinking buy this WD B P10 drive because i want one storage solution to my games "take away" principle. And I don't want use external power supply. Did You try to fill up hard drive? If You did, what was read/write speed?

Really nicely edited video! I'll definitely consider getting an external HDD next console gen. My standard 500GB PS4 can store about four big games now which I'm just constantly having to manage. Plus, safe guards if internal HDD corrupts. Had that happen before! Will keep WD in mind! Thanks, Hannah!

next gen won't let you "play" off these external drives so Don't bother unless it's just a "storage" drive. Not even the good SSD's will be able to "play" off. you'll be needing some sort of NVMe drive & current drives i don't believe will be played off of on next gen consoles. Xbox series X will be selling a "proprietary" external NVMe usb stick, not sure what Sony is doing with the ps5.

Yeah, Micro-USB 3.0 has definitely been tried and tested, and it's been found to have low durability because it breaks easily, and it has low longevity because the port quickly gets loose and causes connection issues. There's a reason Samsung went back to Micro-USB 2.0 with the Galaxy S6 after having tried Micro-USB 3.0 connector on their Galaxy S5. Those Micro-USB 3.0 ports were already crapping out before the next generation of phones came along. There's absolutely no excuse putting Micro-USB 3.0 connector on anything here in 2020 when we have USB Type-C, which has by far better durability/longevity and is reversible so you don't have to pay attention to what way you're inserting the cable.

How loud is the drive please? I find the old WD My Passport is humming mildly, My Passport Ultra is whirling quite a lot louder. What about WD Black P10 I wonder? Would you be comfortable recording from a mic on the same desk as the drive spinning?

Sorry for not replying earlier! I didn't notice any sound from it when alongside my computer or consoles, so I just fired it up just now to double check. I can't hear it over my computer fans unless I put my ear next to it so definitely think you'd see an improvement on the Passports - I agree they get very vocal as they age, although I've got three which are still alive and kicking! The main thing I can hear is internal fans - the metal casing is probably helping to stifle it a bit and also keeping it cooler so it shouldn't whir as much anyway. Did a very quick video via phone and put it on Twitter so you can see: twitter.com/lomadia/status/1251493361497845761

Hannah suggested in yesterdays livestream we watch this video before making a decision about the P10. I've now watched the video and still want one. I had two 3 TB external drives until recently, one died (taking some useful data) and the second drive is making some alarming sounds. I think it's time to get a replacement and transfer my games before this HDD dies.

I like the design, however I don’t tend to use externals. Had a bad incident with a cat and sarsaparilla I do need to get some extra storage for my Xbox though. Will definitely consider a purchase

D: please dont write review and ad together. even if you like the product and want to promote the money bias can change the contents of a review subconsciously also it reads like an ad. not saying its bad but. review and ad dont belong together. im not sure what word to replace it with either.
@saforder4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree paid reviews are a big no for me even if you disclose it. While i'm sure you wouldn't endorse something you didin't 100% trust I belive there should be a clear seperation between personal recomendations or endorsments and payed ads. Linus Techtips usese the phrase Product Showcase for this type of content which may be a better title in future.

ah, no, c'mon why are we still considering spinning hard drives with the terrible USB3.0 Micro-B connector on them when USB 3.2 NVMe SSDs exist? This hurts me inside
@oOSpecialProskillsOo4 жыл бұрын
it doesnt need to be usb 3.2 or nvme, but just a decent 2.5 inch ssd with a decent controller and tlc cells is more than enough. Ive seen ssd's hit price lower than consumer hdd on gb/dollar. there is no reason to get external hdd's anymore
@JN.0_o4 жыл бұрын
@@oOSpecialProskillsOo I get your point about cost per storage, let's at least agree that it also has to have a type C connector on the enclosure though. It costs pennies per unit more for the manufacturer to implement and makes an enormous difference to connector endurance, ease of use and being able to find the right cable
